Cannot run games in full-screen mode

I'm not sure if anyone has experienced this problem.

When I try to run a game in full-screen mode the screen just goes blank, music plays for a little bit, then the window gets minimised and I'm back to the desktop.

Any hints?

Hmmm... Have you tried toggling the "Use 85 Hz display" option and changing the resolution in the game's setup?

It is possibly because your graphic card driver/monitor combination can't display some of the modes properly.

Did it happen in all/most of the games?

aussie

Yep, I've tried the 85Hz thingy.

I does happen in all games, as far as I know. The funny thing is I haven't changed my hardware recently, and I've been using AGS for years...

So has this only just started happening? Restart your computer; try reinstalling DirectX.

aussie

No it hasn't just started. It's been happening for awhile.

I'll try and reinstall DirectX.

The other thing to try is the "Force letterbox mode" in game setup. It's possible that your current graphics drivers don't support 320x200/640x400.

I have the same problem.
You have an application running in background that causes this problem.
Use task manager and terminate that process.
In my case the application is a "Multimedia Keyboard Software Driver".
I hope this might help you.
Sorry for my English.

Well, I have a Multimedia Keyboard working with mine, and I have no problems here at home.

I'd suggest checking to make sure your colour resolution is at 16-Bit and that as CJ said, installing the newest DirectX drivers as I had a similar problem when I was at TAFE and couldn't get the games to work properly. And also make sure to run a virus program, I had a virus once that stopped my resolution from changing (as odd as that was).
