I just had the craziest idea while I was walking around the campus: What if you could have an adventure game where you have the option to connect to IRC while you're in the game in order to get some hints or talk to others playing the game at the same time? I think it would be pretty interesting specially since the AGS community hangs out on IRC and whatnot. I guess the plug-in would have basic irc commands like ctcp, connect, join, part, and quit where the programmer could set it to either make the player choose or connect automaticly to a server (like to quakenet).

I would implemet this in my game is someone made a plug-in out of it. :P

Mr Jake

hmm
I think its a good idea, and I ahve seen it done before (Uplink) but I dunno how useful it would actually be :D

Moox

The AGS community isnt that big, I dont believe the odds are in favor of more then 3 people playing the same game at a time.

It doesn't matter if you are the only person currently playing it, you would connect to an irc channel (default being #ags i guess) where people there may have finished it

AJA

You could connect to quakenet and join #ags. ;)

edmundito

yeah, we could be playing adventure games while we're on irc too :P

TheYak

We were blathering about this in #AGS.  Or something similar.  Does anyone remember Sierra's The Realm service (I think that's what it was called).  Each person creates or chooses an avatar character...  and interacts similarly to IRC.  Don't know if it's possible but it would be interesting.

Guess where I got the idea inspired from ;) I've been playing the game recently and it's fun to talk to people while you're playing the game...

AJA

This could be fun to try to make... Though it could be quite hard.

Ytterbium

Uplink did something like that, and it worked well.
