Hi everyone.

Something strange happened to my AGS game:

If I try to load the first room of the game there is a fatal exception saying:

load_room: room file created with newer version (too many hotspots/objects)

or sometimes it says: load_room: not enough memory to load background picture

(I am sure I have enough memory: 1024MB on a Win XP system)

I use the newest version (1.55) and there was no problem before. I didn't change a thing in the room ... the only thing I did was converting the game to hi color from 256 colors (is that the point?).

I am happy I made a backup just before converting to high color and it works fine.

When I tried to recreate the BUG (opening the 256 game and converting to high color again - because that was all I made) ... the error doesn't occur again.

Any ideas?

Upgrade to 2.55 ....  ;D

Are you sure you didn't open up an old agsedit and try and bring in your newerly updated game. *Yes, I know thats not a word, but I think it works*

If you are using the right one... then how many times have you tried and gotten the problem.  if just like once.. then id say shut down your computer, and retry to load the game after restarting.
- Oh great, I'm stuck in colonial times, tentacles are taking over the world, and now the toilets backing up.
- No, I mean it's really STUCK. Like adventure-game stuck.

Bit strange this ... I know that not a lot of testing has been done with changing game colour depth mid-way through. You should choose your depth before starting your game ideally, but if you'd like to send me the affected room file I'll look into it and see if I can find the problem.

I am sorry. Of course I use 2.55.

And I got the error all the time from the point when I changed the color depth (also after shutdown and restart).

I know that changing the colors mid-way is not recommended and I normally wouldn't need it. It was just a test and then the problem occured.

to CJ: Do you only need the room file? I will mail it to you.

Bye

Hi CJ,

this is stupid: I just wanted to mail the room file to you when I realised that my friend with whom I am working on this game has deleted the corrupted files to prevent us from getting into trouble with this version.

I am really sorry.

But thanks for your efforts anyway,

Ah well, thanks for the info, I'll bear it in mind if this ever crops up again. :)
