Night of The Hermit loading problem

i recently downloaded Night of the Hermit and I got it to work but it gets very slow and freezes during the title screen. Any suggestions?

If I remember correctly, NotH is an old DOS game, and may not run well under Windows XP and the like.

Unfortunately the game's author hasn't been around lately, or you could try asking him to upgrade it to a WIndows version.
