AGS crushes when testing

I have recently run into this peculiar problem:

When I test my game, if I set it to full-screen, the computer hangs the first time. More specifically:
The test window appears on the taskbar but not on the screen. The screen freezes but WINAMP still plays normally. The only way to solve this situation is to press ctrl+alt+del and terminate the game (not AGS), on which case I take a message "AGS engine didn't shut down normally" or something. After this everything is normal.

I repeat that this happens ONLY the first time I try to test the game and ONLY when testing in full-screen. It happens with all the games I work on, games that ran perfectly until recently.

I tried to erase and re-unpack AGS and the same happened. I erased it again and installed the new 2.61 version but still the same.

Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

Yes, I have the same problem as you.
I think it's something to do with my graphic card and/or drivers not properly accepting the command from the AGS test mode to switch resolutions.Ã,  My game works fine if I run it from my "compiled" folder. But it only seems to lock-up the first time (after a fresh boot-up of the computer) when trying to test my game from the AGS editor. I too, have to use Ctrl, Alt, Delete combo to get the little task-manager and anything with AGS all reads "Not responding". But when I end-task on the game (not AGS), and then run the game in test-mode a second time (or anytime thereafter) it always works fine then.
Ã,  Ã, I'm running Window's XP on a Pentium 4 based Laptop. lots of ram, and my DirectX and grapic's adaptor drivers are up to date.
Ã,  Ã,  I figure it's just my particular combination of hardware and/or drivers on my system that AGS editor running a game in test-mode (the first time) causes a conflict somewhere I haven't figured out where or why yet.
Ã,  Ã,  It's a bit annoying to have to Ctrl, Alt, Del in order to shut down the game before I can re-run it properly, but for now I've learned to just live with it.Ã,  :P

This is a known issue, but it only seems to effect some people, and so far we haven't been able to establish a pattern of what causes it. Unfortunately there's currently no fix other than running it manually from the Compiled folder (or ending the task the first time).

My system configuration is:

- Intel Pentium 4 1.5MHz
- NVidia Geforce 2 MX 100/200
- Philips 109Bs screen working in the 1152x864 res.
- QDI platinix 2 motherboard
- Win XP v2002 (no Service Packs)
- DirectX 9.0

I post them should they are of any help in tracing the problem!

It happens to me on one of my computers. I've learnt to live with it but the one thing I've noticed most people with this problem have in common is the GeForce video card (as do I on the computer this happens on). Why and if that's even the problem, I have NO idea.

GeForce? I'm using GeForce2 MX...

Seems that they're suspiciously related, if it's a graphic driver flaw, nothing can be done I think.

What if you disable both digital sound and MIDI audio drivers (via the game setup) before running it the very first time? Does it make any difference?

Mr Jake

I also use GeForce but it doesnt happen for me...

but something it pauses on the big black screen for about 30seconds before loading the game. But thats like, every 5th time I test it
