Title: [Edited] Why different platforms?
Post by: on Thu 04/11/2004 09:30:04

Hi,there..Can i ask somthing ? Im not sure,if im on right place,olso..
Why some Games are made Dos and some not?
My PC XP  Proff. never play DOS and i m sure many people like me also can't.
I even have no idea how to change sistem to play DOS files .
I download many Games and in the end they are DOS.
Its not convinient not to know, what kind of files person is going to download. It take time to stay in Internet and no way ,than to play the Game.
It will be much better, if Game creator mentioned it in link, what kind of file it is..thanks

See this Knowledge Base article (http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/kbview.php?id=22) on how to run AGS games compiled for DOS in Windows 2000/XP.
You can find links to old AGS versions here (http://americangirlscouts.org/agswiki/index.php/Adventure_Game_Studio). Try the same or next-highest version the game was compiled with.
It may also be possible that you can get some games to work with DOSBox (http://dosbox.sourceforge.net/).

But I agree it should be noted on the games page if a game was compiled for DOS.

Generally, DOS games were made with the older versions of AGS. You'll find that games made before 2002 will generally be for DOS, whilst games made after that will be for Windows.
