I can't seem to get speech.vox files to work. When the game reaches a point where someone speaks, the game crashes and I get a message like so...
---------------------------
Illegal exception

An exception 0xC0000005 occured in ACWIN.EXE at EIP = 0x00407775 ; program pointer is +6, ACI version 2.70.845, gtags (0,0)

AGS cannot continue, this exception was fatal. Please note down the numbers above, remember what you were doing at the time and notify CJ on the Tech forum.

Most versions of Windows allow you to press Ctrl+C now to copy this entire message to the clipboard for easy reporting.

Any help would be appreciated.

For completeness' sake, what is line 50? Also, are you sure the file you're trying to play is a good, non-corrupt file, i.e., if you try to play it in WinAmp or MediaPlayer does it run? Last but not least, are your DirectX drivers up to date?

None of these is likely to be the source, but I might as well ask these up front so we have the whole story, you know.

Those are good questions. Also, what type of files are you using for speech? (ie WAV, MP3 or OGG?)

NormalMan

Sorry. Read my post again and I should have been more clear...  :P
What I meant was that every game I download that has a speech pack crashes when a voice needs to be played. I have both the game and the speech.vox file in the same directory. This has happened to me with multiple games on several comuters. Do I have to rename speech.vox or something?

Rui 'Trovatore' Pires

Odd. But do check to see if the computers you tried it on have the latest DirectX thingies, and whether they're otherwise running fine, 'cause it sounds more like a peecy problem to me.

Strange, I haven't heard of a problem like this before. So if you disable speech in Setup the crash doesn't happen?

Can you try changing the sound driver in Setup (if it's DirectSound try making it WaveOut, or vice versa).

And yes, make sure you've got the latest version of DirectX installed.
