Title: Games.php formatting error
Post by: Radiant on Mon 01/10/2007 22:58:27
The present Pick of the Month does not display properly. The description text uses only the left column (above the screenshot) rather than both. Also, the screenshot link is broken.

That's my fault for putting dodgy markup in the discription, but unfortunately, once submitted I can't change it, so CJ will need to fix it  :-[

Ok, it's fixed now. But SSH, you could at least have chosen a game that had a screenshot to be pick of the month ;)

Cool.

I have another web-related question... http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/memberwebs.php (http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/memberwebs.php) is rather impractically large. Perhaps it could be modified to only list the pages of members that have been active in the last month, or something like that?

As someone recently pointed out, the vast majority of the links is either dead, or points to an abandoned site of an abandoned project.

I second Radiant's suggestion. Since the list of member sites is simply generated from information entered into a user's profile, some sort of filtering by "last active" could be implemented.

Of course, there are those members who haven't been active on the forums, but whose websites are still active. Should they simply be excluded because they haven't posted in however long? :-\

You would either have to have someone manually check each site, or make a crawler to check for 404's.  As for abandoned sites that still exist, maybe there's a way to find out when the home page was last modified?

Yes. Because in my opinion people who are not active on the forums don't really count as forum members thus don't deserve the place in the forum members' websites -list. Well, technically they do of course since they're registered, but you get the point. :P
