Help - Games crash

I checked the help pages, but could not find anything relating to this problem.
I get the feeling the problem is with my (windows ME p4 2gighz) computer.. because whenever i try to run any game at all, including games i downloaded, the game freezes before the first scene fully loads. (not including games i already had however.)
I tried lowering my graphic quality to no avail.
The real kicker is that one or two of the many games i downloaded, actually work, (i.e. abstract) but other than that they dont work.
If i start the game in full screen mode the whole computer freezes, but if i start the game in windowed mode only the window freezes, and i can alt cntrl del close it "usually."
The strange thing is, when i first downloaded a couple games, they worked fine...

I had this same problem with windows 98 and directX8.1. Try downloading directX 9 from www.microsoft.com/downloads and see if that helps.

hmm i wonder if this is the same problem i have

is it on ANY game or just games with AVI movies in them?

cause with me any game with AVI freezes and won't respond to cntrl alt delete

i must have gone to the wrong place.. i dont like that msn site it doesnt click in my head.
cuz the smallest directx 9 file i found was like 200mb
and my connection only downloads at like 1kbs...
i might have been drunk on milk tho

You probably tried to download the whole SDK. Try this link, it's a 10kb installer which goes on to download something that's about 9mb iirc: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=a19bed22-0b25-4e5d-a584-6389d8a3dad0&displaylang=en
