Title: Help with Lucas Arts GUI Interface
Post by: MacGyver12345 on Wed 22/07/2009 02:20:54
How can I use a lucas arts style interface with verbs and inventory without using a template?
Whenever i add a template to the templates folder, it doesnt show up in the new game wizard.

Which version of ags are you using?  The newer builds have a templates folder that ags reads from when it starts but older versions do not (3.0 and under, I think), requiring you to dump the templates in the same directory as ags.

Also note that the dialog won't show templates made with AGS versions too old.

Since when does a MacGyver have trouble with getting things to work?  ;)

Here's a template for 3.1.2. (http://www.2dadventure.com/ags/MI_3.1.2.ZIP)

Create a new folder inside the AGS folder, name it whatever you want (this will become the game exe's file name), then extract the contents of the archive in there.

In AGS, select "continue an existing game", then open "Game.agf" inside that folder.

This template if based on the Maniac Mansion Mania template by LucasFan (which is a stripped down version of the Maniac Mansion Deluxe source).
Note that this template was specifically made for the German MMM community, so there's no english doc of the numerous additional functions and the general mechanics of the template. It contains one example room though.

Also please understand that I won't start explaining all that to a single forum newbie.
I might get around to writing an english doc sometime in the future, but it's not likely.
