This is my problem:
When I was saving my game with the AGS editor today, there was a power failure just after had clicked the Save button.
When I rebootet my PC and tried to load my game with ags, I got this message: "Some orphaned sprites were
found. They have been recovered to your Main sprite folder. This should never happen. Make sure you are not using an
incompatible game and sprite file." , and after I clicked OK I received this: "Error loading game: This is not a valid
AGS game file." After this message AGS closed. So I replaced the files "ac2game.dta", "acsprset.spr" and "editor.dat"
by their eqivalents, wich AGS creates before a new save. After that I tried to load my game again. This time the displayed
Message was:"Error: The sprite file could not be loaded. Ensure that all your game files are intact
and not corrupt. The game may require a newer version of AGS." After this message AGS closed again. Now, I have no idea
what to do. Is there any chance to save my game for I didn't back it up for a long time.   :-\ Hope you can help me

It's bad luck if the backup files have been corrupted as well as the main files; but unfortunately that's what can happen if you get a power cut. There's a lesson here to everyone to make a backup copy of your game on at least a weekly basis.

I just found a BackUp I made a month ago. Fortunately I worked on the rooms since then, and the room files are not corrupted. Is there any possibility of extracting the GUI, the Dialogs or the "main-script" out of the "ac2game.dta" file without having to open it with AGS? That was very helpfull.

The fact that you can't open it in AGS suggests that the file is corrupt, so even if it were possible to extract the bits, they probably wouldn't have valid data in them unfortunately.

Hm.. I think you're right..

After two days of hard work I have updated my backup so far, and now I can continue at the point I was before the power cut. But I learned my lesson^^
"One BackUp a day keeps frustration away"  ;)

Anyway, thanks for your answers Pumaman
