Just loaded a brand new game (after checking winsetup options but keeping the default options) when I got this message:

Quote---------------------------
Illegal exception
---------------------------
An exception 0xC0000005 occured in ACWIN.EXE at EIP = 0x0043A126 ; program pointer is +6, ACI version 2.61.747, gtags (129,82)

AGS cannot continue, this exception was fatal. Please note down the numbers above, remember what you were doing at the time and notify CJ on the Tech forum.

(Room 2 script line 16)

Most versions of Windows allow you to press Ctrl+C now to copy this entire message to the clipboard for easy reporting.

Didn’t change anything in winsetup (although that would have been my next action), reran new game from the start again and no problems.

Then after playing a bit more, I was in the bedroom looking and searching around and grabbing items when the game crashed again with this msg:
[/size]

Just fyi, even now, after playing a bit (3 or 4 room changes, etc) one or more of the sprites flickers and I can see the box that defines the sprite. Also, the menu bar display goes whacko â€" how’s that for a technical description? J - and I can barely make out the different choices (inventory, exit, save, etc.). At this point I just quit the game and reload and the video is good for another few rooms.

I’m sure the problem is mine since no one else seems to be having this problem although all but one other AGS game I play doesn’t have this problem.

This game was made with quite an old version of AGS, so unfortunately I can't really offer support for it. You could try disabling sound in the Setup program, that has sometimes been known to prevent crashes.

Thanks for the prompt response. Too bad, since I really enjoy this game and it was gonna be a fairly lengthy one. Tried disabling sound but still have problems. Will try some other stuff on my own. Thanks again for the answer even though it wasn't the one I was hoping for.  ;)

What graphics card are you using? How about the DirectX version?

Try upgrading your graphics card driver and/or DirectX.
