I would like to distribute my game on as many different platforms as possible. Windows and DOS seems straightforward, but how do I make a Linux distribution?
I have also pondered distribution for Machintosh computers. Wouldn't it be attainable using some sort of dos emulator with the AGS DOS interpreter? If anyone has experience from this sort of thing, I would appreciate if you shared your experiences.
Linux users will be able to play your game provided they download a Linux AGS engine. Here is a FAQ on how to run an AGS game under the linux-ported engine: http://drevil.warpcore.org/ags/faq.html
As for MAC + DOS Emulator - it should theoretically work, depends on the emulator, though. So, the best way would be to just try it out.
I'll do that. Thank you for the link.
And don't use any plugins whatsoever, as they tend not to be portable.
If I may - shouldn't someone make a sticky, or something, so we don't get these questions so often? Seems like every other week someone wants to ask about porting AGS to MAC, or LINUX, or Dreamcast, or whatever... and make a single thread where alll things related to the theme would go? Things that vary from important as this one to trivial as "i wanna play AGS on my CONSOLE!!!1!!".
I agree. Someone who has hands on experience (not me) could write a short summary on available platforms and then the tread could be used for peer-to-peer support issues on these matters.
I'll do some research on Machintosh emulation distribution quite soon.
Since the Linux engine is 2.61, I guess that its important to mention that the AGS games should have been created with 2.61 or earlier...

Will it be updated? I really would like to distribute for Linux as well.
I hope it will. The current official vesion of AGS still is 2.61 and it is ported to Linux. ;)
Unless you need some specific feature that was added into recent betas, you can make the game with 2.61 and then upgrade at a later stage if that's absolutely necessary.
Indeed, beta versions are NOT ported to Linux.
There will be a 2.62 Linux engine when 2.62 is released as a Final official version.
