My creations and AGS exe's have been deemed as viruses.

What the hell is going on here.

I have been using AGS for a few years now and have also been using AVG as my virus software for longer.
I have been trying to finish a couple of games and so, was, still using AGS 2.72.
There have been no problems.

However tonight my comp did it's usual scan and reported 10 viruses and they were all to do with AGS.
All of the files were EXE files within the AGS creation software and all of the games I have been making.
As luck would have it I have a back up of my main creation on a laptop but all of the games and AGS are no longer working on my main comp.

All of the files were moved to the virus vault and given the name 'Back door, Trojan horse'. I tried to restore these files but alas no joy.
acwin.exe no longer exists within AGS and everything has come crashing down around my ears.

The actual message I get is through AVG is ' Trojan horse Back Door. Hupigon5.IZM'
And as I said before it is all to do with AGS!!

Please can anyone shed some light on what may have happened.

Jay.

I just posted the same problem in GenGen. It's an AVG false positive.

edit: Temporary workaround - open AVG and go to Tools > Advanced settings. Expand Resident Shield > Exceptions > Add Path > navigate to your AGS folder and add it as an exception. I've emailed AVG about this.

Hi Auriond.

Thank you for the reply and the workaround.

I do hope that whatever you were working on is O.K.

However I am rather miffed at AVG as I, myself, have now lost a fair bit of work.
As I said I do have my main project backed up on laptop but have still lost my other 'Test projects'.

I have now deleted AGS 2.72 and will install it again and do what you have suggested.
Then, hopefully, re-insert my project continuing from where I left off.

I have AGS 3 on this machine and must try to build a game with that, as soon as I have battled my nemesis. ;)

Many thanks.
Jay.

Have to be honest, I've always had problems with AVG. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone, even as a free product. I'd recommend Kaspersky, as its effective and didn't hog all my resources. Unfortunately some things are worth pating for.

Personally, although I know Im running a huge risk, I currently don't run AV software. I just make sure I avoid all those dodgy sites and turn off scripts for sites I don't know.
<Babar> do me, do me, do me! :D
<ProgZMax> I got an idea - I reached in my pocket and pulled out my Galen. <timofonic2> Maybe I'm a bit gay, enough for do multitask and being romantical

On my computer the only file affected by AVG was acwin.exe. If that's also the case for you, then your projects were actually saved, just that AGS could not generate a compiled exe. You just need to disable AVG the way I described first, then reinstall AGS and save your files again. Everything should run normally from there. I didn't lose the changes that I made before the AVG thing.

AVG has served me well for many years, and I still recommend it to everyone I meet with virus-ridden computers. Resource-hogger that it is, at least it does what an antivirus software is supposed to do.

edit again: actually you don't even have to reinstall AGS. Just open the Virus Vault in AVG and restore all the files it has quarantined.

All this is kind of reminding me of the H1N1 virus... :P

Hi auriond.

Just thought that I would let you know that all is well with the world again. :)

Following what you suggested with AVG I re-inserted my project and test projects into AGS and saved them.
They are all fine now so I have lost nothing.

However I did have to reinstall AGS as I tried to restore the files that AVG quarantined but they no longer worked for some reason.
Also I agree with you. I too have been using AVG for years and would also recommend it to everyone.

Anyway. Thank you for your help with this. Much appreciated.
Jay.

That's great! Glad you didn't lose anything.

AVG replied, agreed it was a false alarm and released a virus definition update. So anyone still facing this problem, just update your AVG and everything should be fine.
