Title: Preload video and audio
Post by: on Mon 04/07/2005 22:45:09
Hi i'm a new guy in the forum, but i've been reading it a lot, also i've been working a little bit with the AGS ;) i'm sure you will see something soon

now i have some trouble with the preloading thing, and  i've been reading all the help i needed in the forum but it seems nobody has the same problem so here i come...

i have a good computer (a very good one), but now i'm on vacation and i can only use an old Celeron 1400

i'm making a game with audios and videos and i every time the game needs to load one of them it stucks 15 seconds or so...

i'm using 640*400 videos (as the game) in MPG format, and they work very good, the "only" bad thing is the preload... :(  it also happens with some of my mp3 audios

so i wish there is a preload script function or something that can help me to Load the videos and audios at the start of the game, or if somebody has an idea to help me...

i want the game to run on every computer (of course not an old spectrum, but i think a PIII)

thanks in advance
and thanks again for all the help i've got from the forum

now i am an official member i wish i can help with my "wishdom" as well :P hehe

Does the delay happen every time, or just the first time a video plays after you start the game?

i only play once each video, and it happens on every video

I've been starting to have similar issues (even though my pc is top-of-the-bill) where the background music skips for a fraction of a second everytime the dialog options box appears.

Has anyone else experienced this delay before all videos?

the only "bad" thing I've noticed is that when a video plays on my computer, there is a black "flash frame" between the room and the video, instead of playing the video smoothly.

I'm just mentioning that because it could be fixed with a bit of preloading ;)
