Ok, maybe somebody asked this question already, but I want to know - is it possible to make combat system in AGS, and if it's possible, then how to make it.

It is certainly possible because QFG 4 1/2 used AGS and it did something similar.

But I've never got around making that sort of stuff. I guess it's like everything else in AGS. You depend on your own ingenuity.

Maybe you could try a more specific version of this question at the technical forum.
It's not the size of the dog in the fight. It's the size of the fight in the dog.

Maybe somebody already asked about this, but I wonder if there any way to create QFG2-like combat system. I want to make something like this:

Mouse- and keyboard- driven fight.
For example, 'up' key - hero attacks, or
mouse click on enemy - attack, mouse click on the hero - he dodges...

Mouse-driven spellcasting -
right-button mouse click on the enemy and the hero casts 'flame dart', for example,
right-button click on the hero and he casts 'aura' spell...

Hero's fighting view is depending from the weapon he has got - for example, 'hero with a sword', 'hero with a dagger'...

'Practice combat' - when hero actually fights but he neither does damage to the 'enemy' nor the 'enemy' does damage to him...

Gosh, looks like it is very difficult to make...  :P

Maybe almost impossible...  :-\

Yup... it was you in the beginners forum  ::)

I think that the keyboard/mouse interactions will be the easy bit. Getting the AI for the computer opponent and the balance of difficulty right is maybe more difficult.

You'll wanna use the on_key_press function in the global script for the attacks or whatever and make sure they only work in combat mode.

My combat system was first developed back in November and still needs a few touch ups. Increasing skills ain't too hard. Getting the monster too attack should just be random.
AI would be very hard

I used to make games but then I took an IRC in the knee.

The fighting can be done, Greg did it before. I wonder
if he still checks the forums. He also released the source
code to his QFG2-style combat script, but I think the
thread got lost somewhere.

er... how exactly was the QfG II-like combat system?

I didn't play it, but if you tell me I might be able to help you... ;)

EDIT:
er... forget it, just read the other post...

ALTHOUGH  could swear it was not there when I first saw it :P
And I don't remember posting in this thread either...

Don't blame me - I didn't know it!   (I have the feeling this will come handy...)

I don't seem to check more than once every couple of months, but what do you know... I still have the code, but it'd take me forever to get it pulled up.  I've seen a couple other people do the same thing though.  You're probably over your head if it seems unfathomable... Good luck either way.
