It seems like speech pack for King's Quest 2 doesn't work on ags linux engine. :D

Hey if allegro can't handle video or mp3, or any other audio/video formats on linux,  you should try libsdl
http://www.libsdl.org/index.php

"Simple direct media library"   It's used on many media players and games..  so why not give it a try? It's also included in every linux distro these days, so it'd not be problem to AGS to depend on that library too.   ::)

But anyways, you developers have done great job..   Thank you.

Does the ogg player work in the linux version?  If so, yet another reason to make the switch.
Video doesn't work, because AGS uses media player to play it's videos.. not sure how much work making it cross platform would be, but if it's a lot then it's not really worth it, the number of linux game players we have is quite small.

The speech pack should work - do you get any error messages or anything? Have you run the Setup program and enabled it?
Have you renamed it to upper case?

Video playing is not currently supported by the linux engine, but Shawn (the Linux port maintainer) has been investigating various libraries to enable him to add that feature.

Renaming it uppercase might work! :D  thank you.

I just can't understand why some developers feel that it's not worth it to make applications cross-platform..  Windows and windows, i've given it up!  There's just one reason why people should stick to Windows:

*Number of applications and commercial games

But what happens when there's more than 30% using Linux on their desktop? I mean regular consumers.  That's not impossible.. and i'm sure that will happen in few years.

Things tend to change, are you with the change or not?  I am..

I think it just depends how much work is entailed with porting applications. A lot of developers code things with DirectX or Win32 API directly, which means porting becomes too much effort to be worthwhile.

Because of AGS still supporting the DOS version, I've been careful to use cross-platform libraries, which has helped when creating the Linux version.
