Startup Failure

k there i was reading the tut when it asks me ok save your game (not word for word) then setup select game res... then it sayd now click test so i d that and BLACK SCREEN with display bar saying Roger's Adventure. K then i ty on widowed mode and we have the window outline but its EMPTY... like edges are there but i can see the stting behind it. transpaent. empty window. nothing zero zilch nada. EMPTY. what am i to do... i tried redownloading ags but it didnt work... oh help

Another problem: i download a game and run it and i hav sound but a black screen. it isnt off, but its just black......

I'm no moderator and don't intend to sound like one, but this would be easier to read if you checked your spelling.

Which screen resolution did you select? Maybe your graphics card can't display the default 320x200 resolution- in that case you should select a higher one. Have you created a room? How far have you followed the tutorial?

k i wil attemtp to make my spelling betta. anyway, i had run on this pc Ben Jordan Case 3 (good game, btw) and it worked before, and i had run the tut but maybe i didnt select i higher res.... oh no. i had gotten to the end of te second section AFTER DOING THE FIRST and made arom from the instructions. But then i download BJ 5 and i try, i have sound and all but black creen again.

Compiled games you play (outside AGS) don't affect any settings in the games you're working at in AGS, they all have their own ini and setup file.

So you''ve made the complete tutorial, and before running it, all was okay, and after running it, you get the blank screen? Sounds odd.

common suggestion was to download the latest drivers for your video card, then check it out again. Did you install the games into a separate folder?
Maybe someone can tell you more if you describe your system a bit- OS, AGS Version, processor speed?

nonono what happens is i make the tut until it says save game and test and i do that and it comes up with the black sceen. i had run BJ case 4 on my pc and i redonwload it and it comes up with sound but no image. very strange.

Hm. My graphics card (onboard NVidea GForce 6100) doesn't support 320x200 and 320x240- if I try to run a game in these resolutions, I just see the top half of the screen. That's not AGS-specific, it's the same with any game that requires low res. First I though you could have a similar problem, but this really sounds like a puzzling issue. I re-read the tutorial section, and as far as I understand you, you should really see something more than a black screen. I even went and got BJ5 just to check, and it works fine.

virus, perhaps?

hmm i recently had a worm and it ate half my docs... and my Norton Symantec is making me pay Â£600 to update my virus things... its a 2005 version. i have a 2007 one behind me at the moment... this is my other pc. it works fine on this one... i lke using <...>

If you don't want to pay for an upgrade, try a free virus scanner that actually works, like AntiVir for example. Try also spyware scanners and clean up your system. Otherwise, we can't help much if your problem was caused by virii lurking around in your computer (not to mention that way games created by you may be infected and can endanger anyone who downloads them).
