Room template error turned all my sprites green.

Hey all,

I tried to create a new room from a template and I received an error. It wouldn't let me open any of my rooms or close the AGS Editor. After I Ctrl+Alt+Deleted and restarted AGS, this is what had happened:

Unfortunately I didn't write down the details of the error, although I did send the report.

I was just wondering if this is a common or known error that I can somehow take precautions to avoid, because it's going to be an annoying waste of time importing all those sprites again.

Cheers  :)

Just a wild guess, the template room uses a different colour depth from your game. Using the template may have somehow changed the colour depth of your game but does not convert graphics elements that are already imported (I've never heard of this happening though, maybe it's due to the error crashing the editor which eventually corrupted the game data instead).
I'll say the safest way of making game is to stick to one single room template for the whole game (if you're not doing so).

Sounds like a good guess to me  :P

The only reason I used a template in the first place was because I couldn't figure out how to change the resolution of new rooms. My game is 800x600, but when I create a new room from scratch, it seems to default to smaller than that, causing my game to crash. I couldn't find an option to change it ('Resolution' is grayed out down the bottom) so the only other thing I could think of was to create a room from a template.

If there's a way around that then that'd be good. If not, is there a way to delete room templates that you no longer want to use?

You can just import a background of resolution 800x600 to change the dimension of the room.

Why doesn't AGS just look at your game settings and insert the new room at your chosen resolution? Oh well, simple solution anyway, as I had imagined  :P Thanks for your help. I'm sure I'll be posting more questions later on the in the Beginners section. Nothing ever goes to plan when you're a n00b.

When you create a new room, usually the first thing you'll do is import a background. When you do this, the room will get resized to match the background.

So I do agree that it's a bit silly having new rooms always created at 320x200, but since you will always go and import a background straight away that will fix it, it shouldn't be a problem.
