Suggestion: Flash movies

Yet another try at this suggestion....

Reasons:
- No quality loss
- Faster rendering
- Less work for computer

and so on....
also... this would be nice to include as well...
that AGS can play music, sounds and such at that and that frame :)

Please, pretty please? *grins*

Anyone else? :P

And don't say I have to include a flash player with my game :P

Yes, I've tried that. It works... But it's terribly slow after I convert it, and... (forgot the word, so I'm trying to explain it...)

A movie should run without no problems on a new computer.. But it does.. It's really slow, when it should run ordinary. It jumps to certain parts (like when your computer hang, and when you try to move the cursor - it jumps around instead of moving)

That's what the movie do. Understand?

Ok, this would be a good feature as I planned to do any cutscenes I needed to in flash 5

I think it would be a cool thing ... but you'd probably run into the same issues when/if you wanted to sell the game as with the mp3 stuff.

But I'm not sure about that.

I think it would be cool!  Especially since I'm so familiar with Flash!

No licencing issues AFAIK. Shockwave Flash IS free.

The compiled intro movie for RF "lags" a lot. Maybe it's because I've compiled it with the original res (640x480), but hey, with flash = no quality loss at all or lags, which would be sweeeet ;D

Well, so is Winamp. But licences are more complicated than that. Macromedia owns the rights to Flash, and they may not want people selling their code. You might want to look into it a little further (I will too, now that you've got me all worried :) ).

What codec do you use for the intro movie? I've never had trouble with high-resolution movies on my computer. Do you have room on the RF disc for an uncompredded movie?

I have no idea how large an uncompressed movie will be.. But thinking about everything else, like voices, sounds, music, several cutscenes and such.. I don't think we can afford a 100 MB (or something) intro, when we have about five more to go (or so).

We use the cinepac codec, I think...hope? :P

To integrate flash into MSN chris would have to buy the Macromedia Flash SDK and then there's the whole licensing issue. I tried making a plugin once where it used MFC (in other words, it would be only for windows games) to play the flash files, but I think it conflicted with something in ags (allegro) and just froze the program....  I don't know if anyone else would like to investigate more on this method I tried; you're welcome to.

It was part of a seperate exe file.

This sort of thing would be ideal for a plugin to handle - I'm afraid I really don't have the time to add Flash support to the engine.
