I'm tired of fumbling my way around manual baseline coords. I'd like to be able to set them by clicking on the background. The same goes for WalkToPoints.
I suggest a couple of new buttons be added to the RoomEditor toolset to allow this once again.

In the latest 3.2 beta, when you type in a baseline for an object, a dotted line appears that you can move up and down (in the edit room area). So you can visually set baselines with that.

I don't have any tricks for walkTo's.

subspark

Well my AGS doesnt even show the line anymore. I'm assuming thats a bug.

The baseline appears at the very very top of the room and must be manually dragged down (or set in the properties pane) to where you want it.

subspark

No, I mean it really doesn't show up... At all. :P - Not sure whats going on there.

Okay you're not crazy. I just tried it, and the baseline visual works for walk-behinds, but not for objects.

SSH

But surely one USUALLY want the baseline to be the object Y anyway?

Sure but the Bug should be fixed in the meantime. :=

A visual baseline is provided in the editor for walk-behinds, because you always need to set it.

For objects, 99% of the time you don't set a baseline and just use the object's Y co-ordinate, so providing a visual baseline setting tool hasn't seemed worth it.

Its quite inconsistent and particuarily frustrating if your commonly relying on objects for effects.

Would it be too much to ask for a visual indicator? I almost remember there being one for objects once.

YOU DARE TO MOCK THE GREAT VEGETA?!

...Sorry I couldn't resist. Buy yeah it's a bit inconsistent but it's not SO annoying to do that the way it is right now. Belive me :) There are much more annoying repetitive things :)

However it would be nice to have those anyway for simplicity sake..

After the baseline was removed as a visible clue for objects I recall never having to use it even once, but on one occasion it was really needed. And that's the Babel Fish puzzle room. With like 12 objects overlapping each other at different points, it would have been terribly useful there. I know baseline is fine and all, but it's not just the order that I had to fix with this one.

I know that lately we've been catapulting you Chris with all kinds of suggestions, it's up to you to tell us what you feel its important. I'm with Sparky on this one, because I spent like 2.5 months on that single room alone, and it would be kind of easier if what subspark suggests was there.
Worked on Strangeland, Primordia, Hob's Barrow, The Cat Lady, Mage's Initiation, Until I Have You, Downfall, Hunie Pop, and every game in the Wadjet Eye Games catalogue (porting)

Pumaman

Oh I agree, in an ideal world there would be one for objects too. But realistically prioritising things, this isn't likely to be making an appearance in the next couple of versions.

subspark

Oh ok. I thought you were denying its value earlier. Sorry CJ.
