I'm not a programmer. I have no intention of making any games with this editor...
Which made the interrogation to register for the ONE SINGLE POST I WILL EVER MAKE HERE, a tad annoying, but Ill get over it. :)

Very simple problem. I love Quest For Glory and would like to play this strange game, but I have a problem, the mouse/cursor....
"smears" whatever dialogue or text boxes it comes into contact with. Usually leaving blackness wherever it goes. Sometimes it does that to whatever area of the game I'm in as well. You know, the setting, the hero, etc.

I tried to use DOSBox, and it sent me after some weird, almost impossible to find zip file that I finally got. Then, when I placed the files in the folder and tried to run the game with DOSBox, it gave me an error, saying the screen resolution it was set on wasn't supported. There's three screen resolutions to choose from. All got me the same thing.

Can anybody help me make this game work?

You know, these questions don't belong in this board. It's not technical, but just a request for help with PLAYING and not MAKING a game. (Correct me if I'm wrong.)

Try the windows 2000 version:

-----------------
if that doesn't work, do what our resident 'crazyman' reported in another qfg4.5 thread, which ended up working for what sounds to be the same problem:
use VDMsound.Install it then right-click the QFG 4 1/2.exe file and choose run with VDMS.

Now it should work

- No, I mean it's really STUCK. Like adventure-game stuck.

Yurina, posting questions about how to get certain versions of the engine (i.e. games) running on various operating systems are okay, I think. For more recent games the announcement thread in the Completed games forum is an option, too.

But you're right, questions about how to actually play a game belong in the Hints & Tips forum.

Wow.
Even after the 20 questions, nobody has a clue where to post.
How is it Hint's and Tip's if Im asking about a TECHNICAL issue with the game?

Ok, if you'd like to drop the attitude we'll try to help you.

Firstly, the main problem you have is that QFG4.5 was made with a very old version of AGS.

The team that made the game created a "Windows 98" version (as they called it) which is actually a DOS application, and a "Windows 2000" version, which is what you should always use.

If you already have the "windows 2000 version" and it's not working properly, I'm afraid we probably can't help. The game was made several years ago, and AGS has changed significantly in that time and many, many bugs and incompatibilities have since been fixed.

You might try persuading the game authors to update it to a more recent version, but sadly I think they're unlikely to do so.

Hi there.
Do you still have a copy of the "windows 98/dos" version? because I'm having problems running the win2000 version. If I could get hold of a copy of the older dos version, I might be able to run it through DosBox :D

If you have a copy of the old version, please let me know :D
