Title: updating a gui to a new AGS version
Post by: Sam. on Wed 19/11/2003 17:34:19
heeeelp! i just recently downloaded the discworld GUI from ages ago by stryker. i thought it was really cool and wanted itfor my game. i opened the .dta file in ags but it said i  couldn't open that file cos it was from a different older version. is there any way i can rip the GUI from the game or if not, does anyone have a similar one  they could direct me to?

You got all the game files of the GUI in a directory, and you used AGS's "Load game" (From the startup screen or the file menu) to open the .dta file in that folder? If the file is not corrupted or anything, AGS should just report you that it was made with an older version, and upgrade it...

Uh, then, I fear so... but I'm not the expert here anyway... Could the game be upgraded from version to version or something, if you most of the versions in between could be found, or somthing?

It should be possible. I have a game that I started in the old DOS Roomedit, and I opened that with the first Windows version when it came out. If I remember correctly, that version automatically updated each room..

You can download AGS 2.31 from here:

Bear in mind this still has the DOS editor so don't be too shocked. Just load the game into that and save it again, and it should upgrade it to a version that the latest AGS can load.
