Trouble starting agsedit.exe (version 2.62, windows xp) *solved*

I've been playing ags-created games for a while, but i wanted to try my hand at developing my own.Ã,  I downloaded ags version 2.62 and unzipped it, but when i run agsedit.exe i get an error message with the "new game" console and Adventure Game Studio Splash screen open:

Sorry, an error has occured
...

I am running an athlon64 on winxp sp2 (not sure what other info to give)

I've tried several of the other remedies on the boards (change directories, update directx) but i can't seem to fix it.

I have an old version of AGS on my alternate harddrive (2.31) that i used before, but i don't see any connection to the problem.Ã,  Other ags games run fine.

help please!

I just installed it on my friends win98 computer, it works fine.Ã,  Ã, :-\Ã,  Now if only it would work on mine.. doh

I just went through a ton of windows updates.. i think i was using an old beta (rc2ish) xp pack, i installed service pack 2 and poof!Ã,  ags works
