I recieved my subscription copy of the magazine "PC Plus" today, and on turning to page 164 I was absolutely flabbergasted:

That's right, AGS now has it's own 4-part magazine tutorial, in one of the most prestigious PC magazines in England! All hail Richard Cobbett!
Edit: here's the whole article scanned:

Woop, that is great. Do you have access to a scanner so you scan all 4 pages, in a readable size? :)
yeah....we are all cheapscates!
Is it just a simple review of AGS or a tutorial?
what!! That's awesome!
On the other hand, expect a lot of newcomers ::)
(which doesn't have to be a bad thing)
btw,
Is it a good tutorial?
Well, I couldn't buy PC Plus if I wanted to. Which I do. What issue is it anyway just in case. We always seem to get magazines 2 to 4 weeks after they're issued, so "latest issue" is no good I'm afraid :/.
N3t, the newcomers will have a good foundation. So woop.
woop woop
t00t t00t
Yeah, and it explainas its best for making adventure games, so we won't get masses of people hoping to make the next GTA.
Hmm i'm gonna buy PCPlus tomorrow then :D
Absoultely incredible!
Do any of the Dutch AGSers (n3t?) know if it's available here? Can't say I've ever heard of it.
Oh! Mass newbies ahead! :o
Maybe there should be a new "Introduce yourself here" thread in the gen gen forum?
Hadn't thought of that. I think it's positive, though!
The issue will be available for legal download in half a year, U checked out the site.
PDF download area (http://www.pcplus.co.uk/pdf/) (nothing for us there yet)
I really dislike all of these things. I think they should really ask CJ first. They should also put these out in a cupple years... when I am an oldie :P... Bring on the n00bs
maybe they did, i see no problem, i cant imagine too many mega n00bs coming from reading this
... i dunno, the magazine page looks a little bit fake :-\
I wouldn't worry too much about annoying noobs coming from this. PCPlus is generally read by more mature people, it's not just one of those pc gaming mags. Sure you'll get noobs, but not annoying ones :P
Heh ok:
1. This is not a fake
2. The issue is number 207, October 2003; should be hitting the shops in a couple of days
3. It's an IT professional and hobbyist's magazine, so expect lots of nice, interesting people, not n00bs :P
4. The PDFs don't go up on the pcplus website until a couple of months after publication, for obvious reasons
5. The tutorial is only 2 pages long, but there are three more parts planned over the next three months
6. I'm not gonna scan it, because it would need to be hi res and there's nothing you haven't seen before there anyway, and I cba.
So in short, w00t!
Well I guess thats enough for me to believe you. Start the party.
\o/
Wow Archangel, that is cool, I'm gonna have to get a copy of this :)
No, they didn't ask me beforehand, but then there's no real reason to - it's not like they'd ask JASC before writing an introduction to PSP.
QuoteThe issue is number 207, October 2003
what the hell? August has only just started! ;)
Hah yeah, they have 13 issues a year, so the months get pushed a little out of line.
What's the final one called? "Smarch 2003"?
CHRIS U SHUD ASK 4 MUNAY!!!111
Iirc, they call it "Winter 2003", or something ludicrous.
Well, that's pretty awesome. Anyone know if it's possible to order single issues of that mag to the US? I'd love to own a copy of that one.
Looks good! Let's see how the world handles it! ^_^ Well done CJ. I bet its what you always wanted. Quick, add a "donate via paypal" button NOW! ;) :P
m0ds
I'm too good to you people:

Page 2 (http://www.btinternet.com/~peter.rocker/File0008.jpg)
Don't expect me to do the same for the next three issues!
Note: the bit that didn't come out too well in the scan was the caption below Richard Cobbet's photo, which reads "Richard gets into his house by sliding a bit of paper under the door and poking the key out of the lock with a paperclip. Burglars just smash the windows." Just though I'd share that with you :)
That's awesome! Fame to CJ! :)
I'll read the other parts later when they are available as PDF. Too bad they don't sell PCPlus in Israel.

So why were you reading it? ;D
Perhaps because I'm a hobbyist?
Heaps cool. I winder if we get taht mag in australia. We do get a lot of british mags. I should check the newsagents.
Anyone still doubt my comments on how our community will eventually revive adventure gaming to it's former glory?
It's all a matter of time... :-*
PS I want a copy. Dammit.
dammit, now someone is going to beat me to it... and by it i mean making THE game that brings adventure games back....

/me continues work on Doom III & Half-Life II Quest. I WILL SHOW YOU ALL!!!
Pumaman, you keep whining about dates.
"End of August is too early to start school!"
"September should come after August, not October!!"
Pah, give it a break
Damn, that's pretty sweet. Newcomer city is on it's way ;)
Somebody revive that stalking CJ thread...
--EDIT--
Archie, when the new tuts comes out, will you scan 'em?
--Snake
First Chrille...now Ionas... one by one people with awesome games (or games they're selling) are being mentioned in Eurpoean computer magazines. I ares jheealous!!11!!1 :P
None of the U.S. gamer/computer magazines ever mention AGS...at least I don't think so...
Just thought I'd point out that Richard Cobbett also wrote that article with the pleurghburg review for pcgamer.
I've actually spoken a bit to him over at the pcgamer forums and he seems like a nice guy (Well, except for the fact that he thinks Gabriel Knight 3 is pure crap). A real adventure fan too.

Only when they agree to rename September to Septembeber.
Maybe Septmember?
So, while you're still here,Pumaman, IMO you should add in the profile thing when you register, and in oour profiles a option to see from what/who we were refered from, so we should know who came from PCPlus, who came over by Yahtzee and Rob Blanc etc. You know the drill, it's not like I invented it...What do you say ? :)
And I think when Ignac and Foy( big nice projects) come out, they will be sure a rise of population in the comunity, so we should look at making of quality AGS games as mating/breeding. :)
That's quite a good idea actually - an optional box on the registration form asking where they heard about AGS. I'll look into it.
