How should we know if it was or not?
;)
Lol sorry I meant !!!! not ????
I guess I need to check my spelling before hitting "post".
I gave this a go but having to sit through all the badly written story and repeating explanations of primitive mini-games without the possibility to skip or at least speed up things is really annoying.
Holding down a button to make typewriter message display faster is around since 1990, why can't they implement this in a modern game, ffs.
It's like they were so proud of their weird dialogs that they wanna make absolutely sure the player has to read everything.
You got that right about the skip part. But the fast foward is pretty fast, I mean you can get to the end in less than 40 minutes doing the skipping and knowing the puzzle. As for the puzzle, they where original, but I guess u meant they where easy, and that's true. But the story is amazing, I beat multiple times only so I can get all the endings. It is was of the best stories in a video game in this last couple of years. Also, I'm mostly comparing the game in the console/handheld way. For me, it is one of the best game in that category.
Oh no, badly written story?! :o
I played through the game twice to learn more about the story--didn't get all of the endings, because seriously, I can only play through the same exact scenes over and over again--but I found the story quite engaging!
I only read about 999 (and what I have heard indicates that it is a good game), but so far I have yet to find a DS game that really justifies a replay. I don't have the patience to replay a full game just for an ending which is usually just a short cutscene; that's really something where almost all adventures don't offer very much.
It's an unfair comparison but when I decide to replay, say, Fallout 3, I get a considerable chunk of "new experience" when I try out a new character setup. While the architecture of the world remains the same and no quest really changes, I play in a different way. Sooner or later the difference gets close to zero when you start to max out your skills, yes, but it feels more rewarding, maybe because it's more active.
You know, I'm actually much more likely to replay an adventure game than games from any other genre, if it's funny enough and/or has a great story. I'm like that with movies and books, though, too; I'm happy to enjoy the experience any number of times if I enjoyed it enough the first time.
I'd agree with that but I think mostly because once you've solved the puzzles once Adventures Games are generally pretty short and sweet little stories.
My girlfriend plays this DS dating sim game over and over, trying to get all the boys with all the hairstyles into her clutches. It takes her a few days each time but there's strategy in trying to manipulate the story in the direction you want so I guess once you get into the rhythm of it it's not too much different from replaying a game of Tetris to see if you can beat your high score.
The thing with 999 it that it has multiple path. So you can beat it 3 times and each time you get something different and not just the ending, even important parts of the story is omitted, and that encourage you to take another path, that was very clever. I'm currently playing Hotel Dusk, after that I want to check Professor Layton both for DS. In PC I'm still waiting for Asylum and The Cat Lady. It been a long wait for those and still waiting.

Exactly! ...I mean, I guess I could get the same thing out of watching a walkthrough video of the game on YouTube, rather than actually playing it; but whatever!

I agree, to an extent, but even though there's branching paths to take, there's SO MUCH repeated dialogue that you have to get through, not to mention puzzles, that I only found it worthwhile to try a different path about a year later, when everything wasn't still fresh in my mind. If there was a way to skip directly to the branches, I probably would've played it a lot more than I have.
