What do you guys think of a "TV" series, made in AGS? Like a regular TV show that has a new episode every week, regular seasons, summer in re-runs, etc. Except this would all be made in AGS and released as EXE's.
What do you think? Would anybody be interested?
After By the Sword was done I was thinking of making it into a bi-weekly series. I had planned out the first three seasons years ago but deleted it because I never thought I could ever find a way to do it. I just wanted to run this idea by you all to see if (1) it was even original, and (2) anyone was interested. :)
Well, it's not a totally new idea, but it's never been successfully done before. Sounds like a good way of making a series, once you have the characters and locations done it wouldn't be too much work to make new episodes.
I'd give it a chance.
i've considfered this before.
I started work on a show called the Drunken Adventures of Ben and Jeff, chronicling the well, drunken adventure me and a friend have.
Most of the stupid shit that was going to be in it was based on some real event, like the swarms of midgets (in real life, I was at a shopping mall and ran into at least 50 to 70 midgets in under 10 minutes), the towns local internet cafe with a rastafarian who you could barely understand, and the place only had old computers, a few being 486's (it was an indian guy and the computers were Pentium 1's) and other such crazy events.
Unfortunately, it has had to stop, because the computer it was on is kinda stuffed... thank god I have it on a CD though. The first episode is about 10 minutes (all I got done from an original half hour script), but it is very basic with everything not completely done yet, with some graphics missing, voice work missing and also more sound effects.
It's an interesting idea, but the show would have to have a good story, else people won't watch it. With games, you can get by with a poor story since there are puzzles and exploration to make up for it - but if it's non-interactive, it's got to be interesting and engaging.
Anyway, don't want to put you off, go for it ;)
Wow, nice idea.
TV series exist in flash, and since AGS is actually easier to use once you've drawn the characters, I don't see why it couldn't be done. There are lots of possibilities, and while I figured out it isn't the best way to do news/talk programs (AGS E-Zines and AGS Shows are much easier to make), weekly shows would work well. If you need any help, I'd be willing...
Great idea, I think it could be very interesting. As Chris said, the story needs to be engaging. If there's any help you need in this department, I'd be glad to help. Do you want it to be comic or dramatic, or a mixture, which is more like a game? What I mean is, do you want to make it like TV shows (i.e. there are seperate genres- comedy, drama, horror, etc) or like games story-wise (an engaging story of an adventure that includes dramatic moments, comedy, action, etc..).
The hardest thing to do with this would be the animations, cause you would need a lot of these. Naturally you would make several shows in advance so that you can make it. Maybe even making a whole season/whatever in advance.
Sudden thought: You could have like a video-tape intervace at the bottom (pops up when mouse is moved dwon, or maybe it's better with a keypress, thus you could have no cursor at all. the video tape interface would allow you to pause the show, stop (quit), rewind to the beginging (I wonder if precise rewinding or scene by scene rewinding is possible?). Fast forward would of course be unavailable (or maybe if you've seen it once, it could be).
Now, real rewinding would be too difficult, so maybe a scene-by scene rewind opption? i.e each scene is an auto save game, each time you click the rewind button it goes one scene back. Somewhat hard to implement maybe.
Some more ideas: maybe the GUI could be just a thin 20 pixel wide area at the bottom (the game would be in letterbox mode in this case)and it's constantly on, or is turned on by a keypress. makes it easier IMO.
Anyway I'll have to give it some more thought, I might edit this to addmore ideas.
I offer to help with plot, story script, and artwork. Maybe...

m0ds
Helm
and Phil Reed
I'll write a script over the next week and post it here, if anyone likes it, they can use it for a basis if they seriously want to make a show.
Any ideas what it should be about?
A show about .... nothing.
Its BRILLIANT
What did you do today?
I got up and had some coffee.
There ya go, theres a show
Thats the show?
Well, thered be funny in there too...
I tell ya, it has to involve agsers. That would be cool. I'll start some concept art of characters and backgrounds today...
So, just a Seinfeld ripoff, by the leads are AGSers... who are the main characters? Sub-characters and settings?
I would say, CJ in the Seinfeld role, m0ds in the Kramer style role... but who could George and Elaine be?
Oh, and LGM as Newman! :P
I'd be really interested in seeing something like that! A movie might be even cooler - you could put more effort on it.
Any kind of a show would be an AWESOME idea. I hope someone goes for it.
seinfeld? please!
family guy all the way ;)
I made some demo art I guess. Though I think Phil could also be 2ma2 and Helm is leaning a bit, but oh well...

Why hasn't anyone done this before. You know what? Whatever you're doing now, stop it, fire up AGS, and start working on it THIS INSTANT or I will be forced to...cry like a baby.
Please, please, PLEASE don't make this based on Seinfeld.
commatoes had started something like this a loooong time ago, back when scid used to talk to us
it was a soap opera

Really? "Real" TV series (well, sitcoms at least) usually use the same characters in the same sets everytime. Much "cheaper" than a full movie/game, no? I think of it as a monthly one-person Reality-On-The-Norm-ish thingy.
Subsequent episodes would be relatively easy to produce, but the amount of animation required to get everything ready for the first episode would be phenominal.
About half way through November I am completly willing to take control of an animation team. We could start now but we would need a plot and such so I dont think there is a need.
Layabout: Yes I understand. I just did this quick. I talked to Phil and he said it was amazing how much it looked like him. He was thinking of the title "Hangin With Mr. Reed". I quite like it. ;)

How humble of him. If you can engage him to write the manuscript for that show, which I doubt, there might be a reason to give the show his name. On the other hand, then the show might also be entertaining.
I understand Andail. I just thought I might jump for it, since nobody else seemed intersted. Heh, better then some 6 year old n00b, eh? :)
As for the name I was thinking like "Taking Over Andail's House" or something along those lines. ;)
"Bringing up n00bie"- a comedy coming this spring to Pentiums everywhere
-and i was kidding about the seinfeld thing earlier
Hahah, Scummy, that's great. :)
I think no matter what theme/title/whatever is chosen, it should center around AGS community members. This seems to be the common concensus anyway, so I guess I'm just expressing my support.
One possible problem with a sitcom format is that sitcoms pretty much always have to follow the same template. If the show is indeed a sitcom type of thing, I think it should follow a very loose format, sort of like the existing AGS Shows. One of my favorite parts about the AGS Shows is that they act like they're the same format each time ("Now it's time for poety corner with Ghormak!") but in reality they're totally random and really have nothing to do with one another. Sort of like the paragraphs in this post.
Asparagus!
I think it should be like Space Ghost. Everyone loves Space Ghost. Everything is totally random, he could end up married and you'd never expect it. Plus, you could have the cartoons interview real people on the fake cartoon live-video screen.
I'm going to go break glass behind the dumpster with my mantis friend now.

You know, I've taken such a lengthy absence that I've only seen one and I barely remember it.
My apologies.. ;D
I say we start a new thread asking for people willing to do voices. I dont want to see a show all done in captions, so there better be just sound. We cant start writing if the characters cant send in voicing.

If it's made using AGS members like suggested, I think that pretty much sets who is going to do the voices.
Wow, sorry I forgot about this thread.
This idea sprang up in my head because I was originally planning on doing a series spin-off of my game, By the Sword, when it was finally released. It would've started off on a new starship with a new crew, and *gasp* recurring characters from the game!
Awhile back, I had a list of three season's worth of episodes, with several running storylines and twists and turns. Sadly, I realized I could never do a TV series and deleted the file forever. Little did I know that AGS could be used for it, even though this was years ago.
I guess an AGSers series would be pretty cool. I never thought of that. I swore off pure comedies a long time ago, so I wouldn't be able to do the scripts for these episodes. If people are still interested, I'll be willing to recruit some help with a By the Sword spin-off series, some help with a new plot line, pilot episode, premise, settings, characters, etc.
Terran, I think that's a cool idea.
I plan on making a cartoon series soon...not sure when since nothing I do is ever finished :P But I think of doing it all the time.

I thought of an idea, if anyone's interested.......
* veryweirdguy looks around
Anyone? No?
Fine, I'll tell you anyway.
What if #ags were a coffee shop, or a club, or something? You'd get different members doing different jobs eg CJ as the manager, or m0ds as a waitress ( :P) etc etc. Most of the members wouldn't be employed there, they would just visit. You see?
I'd be very interested in helping any way I can.
Also, if you haven't noticed, yes, I have returned!
QuoteWhat if #ags were a coffee shop, or a club, or something
yes, i thought of that, something like Cheers :)
And the best part would be: NEXT TIME ON....
and that part should definetly have voice.
If you want, I too can help you if you'd like...well dont really know in which section, and i really don't see who's leading this project, tho this was terran's idea, and i see Evil making some initiative...
So, who's in charge?
I am willing to "take charge" of some animation and art stuff but this is Terran's project. He isnt around much anymore because of his own project, but he may be making plans. (?)
I think Terran is doing a BTS series, and then other people have ideas for other series...
I'll help with voices for either (gotta record something first though ^_^), and maybe some design/animating if its gonna be a cheers-style game \o/
if you want i can post you a sketch of the bar i made quickly, of the possible appereance it could have?

This are just the outlines.
There could be a cozy sofa/couch and the sicom stairs that everyone wnats to go on, but they go nowhere etc. etc.
PS 165 kb
I could put this into 3d form and have a high quality room done in a couple of weeks, or an ok quality done by saturday. Cool things about doing the room in 3d are endless, since you'd want all kinds of camera angles it would save a lot of tedium, do the room once then take picture from whatever angles you want with barely any work.
Well, you could put it in 3d, but IMO the images you take would still need to be traced over, to make it look retro and adventure-gamey. Also, with a few exceptions (BTS of course ^_^) doing characters in 3d makes them look sucky..
However, the point about camera angles is definately a good one, a quick 3d room would be useful...
If somebody wants to draw a character, I could try and duplicate the style, because I have nothing better to do and I kinda like turning people into sprites..
2d chars (like cut carboard cut outs) on a 3d bg might be cool, but i agree that 3d bgs should probably be the way to go since they are easily dynamic to help with the scene
I use blender, I'm not sure if anyone else is familiar with it, but there is an edging option. I'll try to get something done to show you guys, it should blend well with some good quality characters. The key to doing this right will be to make it detailed, but not overly complicated. It's best to avoid too many rounded objects and such, and that way the outlines only affect corners and it looks pretty close to good 2d stuff anyway, only better shaded.
yeah 3d could work for the dynamic set, but it still isnt certain will the show be a sitcom or a movie type, with lots of different angles, and all...
No matter what it is, not having different angles would be boring. If you've ever paid much attention to a talk show, the angles change just as often or more, I think around every 3 seconds. Because we're all used to that, it would not be fun to have less than three camera angles, preferably much more.
well, in sitcoms the place is only one, and there arent no angles, but the camera does move when needed, left and right, so the background should maybe be a scrolling one...
Hmm? I tend to disagree, but it really doesn't matter. Creating that kind of variety would be a hassle, I just think it should have at least three different angles that rotate every 10 seconds or so.
Edit: Nm, I think I get what you're saying now.. I'm just thinking of the way they zoom in on someones face every time they say something. You never see one side of Jerry's apartment in Seinfield, but you do in other ones like Friends. What about a StrongBad like thing.. where it stays in one place most of the time, but visits outside areas too on occasion. Space Ghost is like that too. I tend to like that sort of thing.
Okay, so does someone want me to write a short script based on this idea? Having a few AGS guys in this bar, establishing why the hell they are even in a bar and how they got it?
Oh, and who owns the bar? I think mods or CJ for this, or maybe Andail.
I could probably do this in a few hours, seeing as being in bars is a rather extensive hobby of mine. :P
well, IMO i think the story about how they got here or why do they have a bar should go step by step, you know episode by episode.
That way you can have some of those dialogs that aren't crucial for the plot but are always welcome.
Hopefully I'll be included in this, since I started this version of the idea! :)
It should be a talkie, and the bar looks great, and yes I agree 3D would be best, so that I can help.
ALso, how is Blender, BTW? Is it good??
Okay, heres a brief outline for what I will put into the script of a first episode:
(Subject to change)
Plot:
Okay, the episode starts off with terranRICH walking around blind drunk throughout a city (don't know which yet). He has just recently lost his job, his girlfriend and his dog also got ran over. He is feeling like crap, and stumbles across a bar during his drunken stupor called Blue Cup. He recognises the name from somewhere (hmmm) and heads inside to discover that regulars from the AGS forums are there... why? I have no idea, but CJ is sitting behind the bar, dispensing drinks to the "regulars", and that is pretty much the basic plotline so far...
Characters:
CJ - Owns the bar, and is the bartender until a few episodes down when he gets some new help.
m0ds - At the moment, i'm going to make him Blue Cups version of Norm. Everyone here knows mods, so why not have him as Norm.
terranRICH - He stumbles into the bar, and is somewhat the main character of the first episode. In later episodes, he becomes one of the regulars, whose life constantly gets crappier and crappier.
LGM - The fat idiotic Cliff Claven style character that is annoying.
Yufster - I guess she could be some sort of pyscho lady that lives upstairs to the bar, and comes down every now and then to freak people out.
Rodekill - He stops by for a drink now and then, can't think of much more than that at the moment.
Ummm, I can't really think of much more at the moment. Maybe if people posted if they wanted to be in it, and what kinda character they would want.
R3MEMB3R TEH PH!L!PPPPPPP RRRRREEEEEEEDDDDDD!!!!11q1q1!!1!!!11
Phil can be the live music or something. He is a must.
Helm can come in once in a blue moon and kick all the n00bs' asses.
WITH C LEXS! HAHAHA! Everytime a n00b comes into the bar and is an idiot, CJ can call up the Gestapo! HAHAHA! I AM ALREADY THINKING OF MAKING MYSELF A SHIRT!
No, no, CJ is the bartender and he's like the nicest most understanding guy ever. Someone else should summon Helm and Cleks in times of idiocy.
Phil. :P Maybe Eric or Kandyman...

I'd like to be in it. I don't that you'd ever need a dragon, but if you do I'm there!
I don't think it should be Reality. If it was, the bar would probably be Scid's and Scid's already has a bartender. Besides which, RON already has its own multitude of inhabitants and to suddently add whole ton more characters to the mix might be a bit much.

I don't think Helm really needs to be summoned. He's more like a Deus ex Machina that just knows when he is needed. Still I think the whole AGS community as a sitcom is a little egotistical.
Blender is great, but hard to use if you're used to other programs. I use it because it's free, and that reason only. A new version was recently released addressing some of the long-standing lacks in it, but I haven't had a chance to get used to the new interface yet, so I've still been using an older version. It saves in VRML, DXF, and Videoscape formats as well as it's own "blend" format though, so scenes may be transferrable from one application to another. If you're used to something else, you'll probably hate Blender.
I don't think it's egotistical to make a sitcom about your own community. I think it's a fun idea. The idea of bringing in newbies to get their asses kicked is just pure genius. They could do stupid stuff, like sit on the couch that is reserved for moderators, then the whole bar gets quiet, and someone says, "So, you must be new around here. You haven't filled out the membership form, and you don't know the rules, so we might let you off easy.. this time."
Quote from: Quintaros on Wed 12/11/2003 04:06:37I don't think Helm really needs to be summoned. He's more like a Deus ex Machina
Ah, yes. Definitely better.
QuoteStill I think the whole AGS community as a sitcom is a little egotistical.
I don't know, it's not as if we'd be showing it to anyone else who would actually care. I don't think anyone saw the AGS Shows or the Robert Redford games as being egotistical.
Well I'd still definitely take a look. Its just an initial reservation.
I can be a scared guy somewhere on the background :P
And I'll be the guy who shows up and kills people! I mean, there's already a sprite for it!
No? Ok, fine.
I love it! I would LOVE to provide my own voice (obviously) and the way I'm portrayed...brilliant! ;D
I think this idea is awesome all-around. If you guys want, I can give the bar scene a shot in 3D, so you can see how it'd look. In 3D, you can have many different angles, and I think there should also be brief close-ups once in awhile when someone's talking, especially when they're saying something important. Whaddaya say? ;)
Oh yeah, and since Rich brings it up: If for some reason I actually WOULD be placed into this show (which I'd love, but I can't imagine why it would happen), I'd certainly be quite willing to provide my own voice. It'd be a lot of fun.
I think Roger should be involved somehow, like another bartender or something...
Also, I think that most of the regular AGS forumers (or IRCers) should at least get a mention, y'know, like Alky here gets a couple of lines every so often for example.
Also, big events on the forums (eg. a forum member leaving) could also happen in the show, y'see.
And I think we'd have to make fun of Kikme in at least ONE episode :P
I was gonna have Kikme as the owner of a rival bar that nobody ever goes to. Oh and Alkaline is definately going to be in it. Since he was the host of the AGTV talk show, he can continue that role, but coming into Blue Cup after the show, talking about how it went.
Anyway, I think I have some stuff now for the script. I'll write a small one up tonight, and post it here tomorrow. It'll be in the form of a movie script, and most likely PDF file or also a plain text one.
If anyone would need help with understanding the terms in the script, just ask and I'll write down some info about what everything is.
Oh yeah, and for the bar in 3D, you should cel-shade it so that it has a 2D style feel to it.
Ooh! We have to include kikme!
And Roger should be the seemingly lowlife janitor that really has some nuggets of wisdom for everybody. He should even talk/act like IRC's Roger as well.
;D
Do I have to be annoying? C'mon.. I'm really not that annoying, am I?
C'mon guys.. Really?
c'mon!
"Roger, gimme a brewski!"
"remixor: huh?"
"Uh... Roger beer"
"remixor: maybe later..."
"Ok, ok, um... Roger pour drink"
"* roger has quit IRC (quit: EOF)"
"Damnit!"
QuoteI was gonna have Kikme as the owner of a rival bar that nobody ever goes to. Oh and Alkaline is definately going to be in it. Since he was the host of the AGTV talk show, he can continue that role, but coming into Blue Cup after the show, talking about how it went.
I guess I better continue the damn TV show, then... ^_^
But I was looking into ways to make it voice acted, and to use a new animation style (mine sucked..). I'll wait until somebody tries to make a character for this, and see how it looks. To be honest, I see no real reason to do a seperate set of characters for each show, so I might try and take some of yours if that's okay. But I'm still wary of 3d, and I think 2d traces of backgrounds, with 2d characters would be better..
Does anyone have anyplace that I can upload the first draft of the script to. It's an RTF file, which can be opened with Wordpad.
Cast for pilot includes: terranRICH, m0ds, CJ, Rodekill, Alkaline, LGM, Yufster, Phil and also two roles for terranRICH's girlfriend who leaves him and a guy who throws him out of the office where he works, but that one will probably be cut from the final draft.
The way I had it in my head was that there were ten seats at the bar. 2 on the left side, 6 in front and then 2 on the right side, and then CJ behind the bar. Now, marking them from 1 to 10, left to right, I have the seating arrangements at the moment as:
1- ??
2- terranRICH
3- Alkaline
4- remixor
5- ??
6- Helm
7- Rodekill
8- Scummbuddy
9- m0ds
10- ??
I don't know who will go in 1, 5 or 10 at the moment, so if anyone wants those seats, just ask and I'll put you there.

Oh, and any suggestions are welcome. Not funny enough? Too stupid? Too boring? Too much focus on one character? Not enough?
Haha, good stuff man. Just a few concerns: it's not that it's too long for the story, but I'm a bit worried about everyone being motivated to get through a whole episode in a timely fashion if each one is that long. Just something to think about, not a big deal. Also, some of the stuff you describe the characters doing may be a bit tough to animate, particularly considering the huge range of characters and animations that will be need overall. Those are just technical things though, so whatever. The only content-based suggestion I really have is that CJ should be perhaps nicer than he is in the current script. He really is the most undertanding guy around, so he shouldn't be condescending or impatient with Rich.
I DO NOT WEAR MOO-MOOS DAMNIT!
I'm not even that fat, dude..
C'mon.. Show a little respect.. That's insulting!
Anyways.. This would be better done in Flash.. Not AGS..
So I dunno
remixor, thanks for the critique. The pilot would be the only one of this length, and I mostly put all the stuff in to avoid doing it in later episodes, so that once the graphics are done, we could just reuse them. I suppose CJ could be nicer, so I'll work on that.
Calm down LGM, it's just a joke. Anyway, you'll get the chance to make fun of me, seeing as I want to put myself in as a complete drunk who nobody understands at all, and just sits there drinking and drooling.
Heh, it's not that far from the truth in my case. :P
Hilarious! I LOVE my part in the pilot, it's perfect. ;D I agree in that certain things will be hard to animate, but well worth it; specifically, the now-trademark leaning back to avoid m0ds's traveling beer, and Phil stage-diving to the floor. Hilarious!
I also agree that LGM is portrayed rather negatively. It's funny, but don't make him too fat. He's not that bad.
And yeah, make CJ the caring, sensitive bartender who listens. THAT'LL get ratings. ::) Heh, seriously though, maybe The Blue Cup is CJ's one outlet where he can vent all his frustration and anger.
Are we going to have something like a different, random n00b on one of the stools every episode? It could be the "n00b st00l", and we can even have surprise guest cameos once in a great while, where the n00b on the stool turns out to be somebody famous.
Is the Phil in the pilot episode Phil Reed, or evil? I was a bit confused at that part. If it's not Phil Reed, maybe Reed can guest star in an episode at some point.
It's great though! Any news as to whether it'll be 3D/2D/a mix?
I liked it alot ^_^
QuoteI just want to relax
after the show, is that too
much to ask?
Perhaps have somebody (random n00b?) point out that that was like a month ago (kinda a long time to relax), and get a bottle of Vanilla Coca Cola(well it could be alcohol, but I doubt even in a tv show and with CJ as the friendly bartender that that would be likely ^_^) thrown at them?
But whatever...
I think it's damn great as it is.. ^_^
EDIT : I just remembered, when I was making AGTV raggit made two drafts of songs that were very good, but kinda inappropiate... I said it sounded slightly too much like a cheers-style theme ^_^ I'll try and dig it up, and if it's as good as I remember we can ask to use it..
Well, when you do get to me, I'd probably be the guy that comes in and orders a milk, and then theres a pause of everyone looking at me with large eyes, cause I don't drink, and that could lead to hilarous circumstances... like "Who spiked my root beer?" ;)

Hilarious! I LOVE my part in the pilot, it's perfect. ;D I agree in that certain things will be hard to animate, but well worth it; specifically, the now-trademark leaning back to avoid m0ds's traveling beer, and Phil stage-diving to the floor. Hilarious!
Well, like I said I wrote it all so that things could be reused in later episodes if needed. But for the most part, I wrote it like a normal script, not taking it into account about being made with graphics.
Quote from: terranRICH on Fri 14/11/2003 16:55:10I also agree that LGM is portrayed rather negatively. It's funny, but don't make him too fat. He's not that bad.
Yeah, I know he's not that bad. It'll mostly be whoever does the animations that'll decide how he fully looks, and the moo-moo's only for this episode. So they could do the regular animation, and just quickly draw the moo-moo over it.
Quote from: terranRICH on Fri 14/11/2003 16:55:10Are we going to have something like a different, random n00b on one of the stools every episode? It could be the "n00b st00l", and we can even have surprise guest cameos once in a great while, where the n00b on the stool turns out to be somebody famous.
Thats a good idea, I'll have seat number 1 next to terranRICH as the n00b seat.
Quote from: terranRICH on Fri 14/11/2003 16:55:10Is the Phil in the pilot episode Phil Reed, or evil? I was a bit confused at that part. If it's not Phil Reed, maybe Reed can guest star in an episode at some point.

It's Phil aka Evil. :)

much to ask?
Perhaps have somebody (random n00b?) point out that that was like a month ago (kinda a long time to relax), and get a bottle of Vanilla Coca Cola(well it could be alcohol, but I doubt even in a tv show and with CJ as the friendly bartender that that would be likely ^_^) thrown at them?
It would knida slow the script down for the pilot. Maybe in another episode, having you walk in and saying that the show will be the death of you or something, and having a n00b something then... meesa don't know... :-\

Will do! ;)
If this Phil is evil, he must have a goatee.
What easier way is there to distinguish? Nothing.
I got bored and wrote some more episodes. 2, 3 and 4 and they are much shorter than the first one. Compared to the first (about 15 approx) these go for about 5 each (approx).
2nd episode introduces Scummbuddy and explains why he is drinking milk. 3rd episode introduces Remixor and Kikme. And the 4th episode is a play on m0ds and Yufster... you know what I'm talking about. :P

They're good, but yeah, they seem a lot shorter. There's nothing that says all the episodes have to be the same length, but maybe lengthening these, or combining them (that probably won't work) would be a good idea. Maybe add some subplots and characters? (Jimi as a road-runner style character who says loads, Boyd disgusting everyone, Miez being forced back to work by m0ds, Vel getting thrown out for advertising, Yahtzee standing outside playing a symphony, AGA not being AGA, CJ bringing out new versions of his 'secret recipe' drink (AGS), getting annoyed because people want him to add lens flare to it (which is, of course impossible)..
Anyhow, just some ideas. But the story is very good, and I hope we can do this...
Who's actually doing the art e.t.c.?
Yeah, i was wondering too.
So who will decide about the job of a project leader, and then the project leader would do the rest?
Maybe terranRich?
I don't know why, but the Blue Cup bar reminds me of that one bar that the people on Friends go to. I think it's called Central Perk. Anyway, I hope I'm put in as a regular. I'd be the 10-year-old in the corner who always has a sugar-high. Also I've got an idea (I don't care whether you use it or not) for this show: Holiday episodes (like maybe on Halloween the ghosts of all the n00bs killed by Helm come back to life as zombies, or on Easter an Easter Bunny comes and leaves eggs that no one knows are there and they rot and everyone gets angry. Maybe even an insane Santa who tries to blow up Blue Cup.)
Wait, why am I Phil and why do I play a jug?...
evil, I think I did that because someone said to have you as some musician guy or something. And also, don't knock the jug playing man! :P
And I put it as Phil because thats your name... isn't it? If I'm wrong about that, I can change the script. And sorry if I am wrong. :-[

It'd be possible, but it would be better if the series went on for a while before any considerations for a holiday episode would be considered. Plus, the series would actually have to be made... and at the moment, it doesn't even look like anyones doing animation or such... so... :-\
Oh, and Off-Topic... your signatures a bit annoying. For people with lower resolutions, it causes them to scroll across. Sorry, but I had to say it, since the computer i'm on is sucky and only has 800x600 as maximum. :'(
See, I thought Phil referenced Phill Reed, because as far as I know, he is/was in a band.
On a similar note, let's have Phil Reed guest start one episode with poetry reading :P
Oh, and I can't seem to open the bluecup.zip file with Episodes 2, 3, and 4.

I think when m0ds says "Shut up Roger", Roger should say "Ok m0ds, I won't do anything for 20 seconds."
Haha, I've got to say that your short little intro sequences are hilarious. Good stuff, man. I do think the episodes as a whole are rather short, but in all honesty it might be better that way for simplicity's sake.
Oh, and about the Phil/Phil thing, I think you should make the Phil character be Phil Read. That's who I assumed he was when I read your first script, because most people here know him as a musician and it would suit his character better.
Also, I agree with whoever said it that you should try to stick in more characters. It wouldn't make the episodes considerably longer, but I think it would be cooler to have as many community members as possible in there.
Yes, Rich is right. I was saying Phil should be in it but if you want me to be in it I am ok with that too. :) Or better yet me and Phil can play jugs. :p As for characters, are we gonna use our faces like in "Who killed Kenny Rogers"? I think that would be cool and talking animations would be easier.
Definite thumbs up on the Kenny Rogers heads idea.
Yeah, the KR heads (Robert Redford style) would be cool.
And, I dont know i always thought of the bar as the Cheers one where everyone comes, but when I think of Central Perk, it has the more cozy sofa and chairs...
Robert Redford style heads would be cool. But then, everyone in the show who hadn't put in a picture would have to, and people might not want to show their picture.
And Os Ultimo Quao Queijo ^_^: I deleted my annoying part of my signature and replaced it with a corny punchline. Practically the same.
If they dont want to use their heads then they dont want to. The only one I can think of that would object would be Snake. But he could always be a phantom, like a caped shadow.
Okay, so I'll change Phil into Phil Reed. evil, I'll come up with some other role for you though. If I write anymore, I'll add you in. Any idea about what you would the character to be like?
Hey, how about instead of just a plain bar, this could be some sort of lounge, with different areas, like some large booths for dining, the bar area, a "Members' Only" area, the bathrooms, etc. It could also have a dark atmosphere. Check out the image in http://www.script-o-rama.com/snazzy/dircut.html and tell me that's not the perfect place for AGSers to hang out. :P Just add a bar and you're all set. :)
I don't like the photo-heads, they make the whole thing look kinda lazy...
Doing character animations is really not that hard; It's probably easier than trying to track down all the photos (especially if you want them to be the same size n' all), and it means you can add in loads more expressions..
If everyone really wants them, then okay, put them in, but only 3 people really responded, and they prob'bly haven't seen how badly Angela Anaconda messed up that idea ^_^
Terran : That's damn cool. I think having a little more light would be better, but that's a neat style..
I think photo heads are just funnier ;) Also, it would be a lot easier to identify the characters, especially if they change clothes from episode to episode. I'd just imagine it would be easier to create obviously identifiable characters from photo heads than to pixel paint every head and make sure it's both completely unique and still representative of the source photo.
do you need a rock n roll goon too? ::)

Not in my opinion...
4 views, all with talking animations is hard enough, but when you add in expressions it becomes almost impossible.
And while it may be funnier the first time you see it, it becomes less so very quickly. And what about characters like the dog, or Kikme? We won't be able to get talking views for them, making it seem very discontinued artistically. And making pixel drawings representetive is not hard, or it wouldn't be done effectively in 75% of Adventure games...
I would take the project, and do it in flash. (Twould be lots easier) But.. I've been so busy with school and such, I wouldn't have time..
And I already am behind on recording lines for BTS.. But anyways, I think Evil should be ONE of the project leaders (There can be more than one.)
But I really like this idea and we should get preliminary work started. So who wants to break the ice?
Alkaline: The reason Angela Anaconda looked bad was because of the body animations. It was way cartoony, the all moved on hinges. They walked like paper people with two prong fasteners holding them together.
I'd go with the head idea 100% just keep them realtivily preportional.
Edit: I'll start characters. Anyone that wants to be used please send in front and side views so I could maybe start some ideas. Do not email them to me. Post them here or pm them to me.
Evil: Well, the only pic I have of myself is my avatar pic. I'll see if I can bum a digital camera off someone to take a couple more.
i think it would be even more cool if we had only only 3 ways of view front side left and right(smthn like my avatar), and the back view...actually i dont think that would work...
anyway, the photo heads is a good and funny idea, and its is not an imperative that the face must be yours (remember Kenny Rogers - McGyver...)
Evil, I want in. Would any of teh three pictures I posed in the show your pic thread work as front views? what size you need?
edit
BTW, in Granville Cronciles, You find back, side and front views

I'll see if I can get some pictures of me. I'm not sure if I've got a side view at all.
Hey, i got another idea for the bar, that could easily be modified.
(damn these ideas keep popping in my head by accident)

I knew it. I knew this project would die off quickly. Most group projects do.
What we should do is get another separate forum for this project, like a bunch of us did with By the Sword. We should assemble an official team, have a list we can add on to, to determine who's doing what, where, with who, and how.
Eh?
I sign up for art and animation.
Well, I'd happily do animation, but not the kind you're planning..
So I'll just sulk ^_^
Actually, I could probably do some of the actual scripting. It would be one big cutscene, right?
Pretty much one big cut scene, but with some intros and long pauses. Thats probably something we should look into, a pause option. Can we do that? I dont know anything about scripting. About all I can do is NewRoomEx and the majority of the time I forget the semi-colon.
And what about chapters. Something like in Fraiser?
Cause i dont think everyone will be always able and willing to watch the whole thing.
Well, the scripts I wrote would go for 5 minutes or so, thats guessing though because they are 5 pages long and that means 5 minutes for a film script.
The first one was around 15 minutes.
I'll help write som crap for it, jokes or whatever.
Any random voices not voiced by the actual people I'll be happy to volunteer for :)
I, too, volunteer for any voices you may need.
And also, should you need it, music, of course.
I volunteer for my own voice!
As do I.
I should also be able to upload drawings of myself, as well as some heads of myself later tonight.

Scummbuddy taller then Helm!?! It cant be! :)

shes always been taller than me. im planning for an overtake soon though.

If you want to be a guest writer or something, just write up a script. I just wrote the first few because I was really bored, and thought I had some funny ideas.
this would be cool, the resolution used by cable tv shows is 640 by 480, so thats np, and most cable providers will allow any of their subscribers at least a 30 minute spot on their local channel, we could set it up to run through the "game" by itself, with voices and crap, while we capture our monitor feed.(maybe with SnagIt) load up premiere and drop it onto some VHS tapes. bring it down to the station(s) and wham, we're on tv. in several cities i might add. also, a nice addition to any portfolio.
also what if each episode was just a collection of 5-10 minute sketches? easier than writing a 30 minute story every week.
nono, not an actual series to be put on tv.... just one that we could download and have inside jokes to laugh at
lol, yeah, not real...
Evil: But dont you know that actually in the AGS community the basis is mostly where people get to... :P
BUt W3 HAvE tEh c00l CoNcEPt ArT & V01cE 4C7eRs!
well, evil, if you put it like tH43t, the i believe you.
Anyway, just another of those thoughts...
Anyone played Neighbours from Hell by JoWood(and we know what type of games they publish... :P).
So you're like this guy, Woody, and every episode is like a TV show, so when you enter the house, the audience goes 'WOOHOOO'. The point of the game is making pranks, so the more pranks you make, the bigger rating of the audience will be.
Now, back to the point.
Could we use the Cut-off 2D clay-like style for OUR/YOUR Ags shows??
oh yeah...

I've finally got my computer back (thank god!), and decided to start work on a background for the bar. I did it at a resolution of 640x200, so that it will scroll. This is what i've got so far:
Tell me what you think... and remember, still working on it. I've gotta go and study one of the local bars to have a look at details... oh, and get drunk. ::)
Just my opinion, but I think the walls should be darker. I've yet to see a bar with light coloured walls.
Also, extra stuff to add!
Liquor bottles on the wall behind the bar
Photos and souvenir type things on the walls (famous AGS characters?)
Tables, chairs, stools
Quote from: DragonRose on Mon 08/12/2003 16:47:41Photos and souvenir type things on the walls (famous AGS characters?)
Ooh, famous AGS characters, neat idea! I like it :P
It could start off with Larry Vales, some RON characters, Roger, etc.
Maybe the exterior could look like this
(http://www.2dadventure.com/ags/bluecup1.gif)
Hehe, that exterior's cool. But you need to have the door lower than the rest of the ground, due to their being stairs to it... which Terran falls down in episode 1. :)
If people want to start making their characters, do it now, based on the background to get the right size. I'm not changing it much, but mostly adding stuff now, changing colours, furniture and such...
We have to make our own characters? I suck at graphics!
Unless, of course, I can be the one in 3D
:P
*snigger*
(http://www.2dadventure.com/ags/bluecup2.gif)
Well, you DON'T have to make your characters. You could ask someone to do it. I just said to for people to make em seeing as they would know what they want to look like.
edit: Oooh, I just noticed the redone exterior... now, THAT is the exterior! The Bluecup is even over the door like in the script.

Fear the Dragonrose sprite! I tried to copy the style that Evil and Scummbuddy have used.

Yeah, I'm not in any of the scripts. Oh well.
I do not wear a dress... >:( ;)
Yeah, well you're also not green and are lacking in breasts. Any other complaints, Mr. Picky-guy?
Hey rembre me ;D I am the one with the voice acting team that is never given a real chance to proove my team right :)
so why not make a script of me going into the bar looking for anyone to voice act in a new game but everyone answeres me in text only and I will be the only one with voice in this episode.
what do you think?
Is it just me, or did this thing just die?
Hopefully, it's just you.
Oh, and how do I put a script up here? Can I just paste it up here?
indeed
Oooh, another script. What program did you use?
Bump!
Crap! Since when has the ceiling been so low?
Oh, and I did it in Microsoft Word.
Is The Last (Something) Cheese done with his bar background yet?
I haven't finished yet, I have been mostly working on a short little story thing I started in the middle of last year, and when I've finished that (mostly adding sound effects and just tweaking some graphics) then I'll start working on the bar again.
Hopefully that'll be done by next week or so... unless I die. :o
(http://www.iownjoo.com/freeimghost/LordHart/bar.jpg)
Once again, it's still not finished, but it'd be there soon. :)
looks nice, with some atmosphere.
As you said, it's not finished yet, and i'll just remind you, so you dont forget to add a part where is possible to go to the back part, or at least the bathroom. You know all those shows have places where the actors go, but we cant see it...
:)
Yeah, the bathroom door is the one there, it's just I didn't add the little logo thingy, and yes, theres only one... coed... :o
Anyway, I've still gotta do the front door, the door to another backroom which I'll have a pooltable or something there, also gotta put in the stairs to the apartments upstairs, stools, booths at the front, more photos on the wall, the panelling on the sides, shelf with bottles of grog on it, fix up the taps to look a bit better, fix the red leathery thingy on the bar, add shading, add a bit more detail to small little things and also fix up the floor since it doesn't really suit the pic anymore...
Should I have carpet, or tiles? and what colour?

red carpet? he he...
really, 'm not sure.

I'm still working on the Bluecup series, but I got distracted by my computer dying on me and working on Brad Bradson II... :-\

How about no... ;)
Is it not slightly confusing having two Threads on the same thing running Simultaneously? Or is that just me...
