Title: a question about the AGS Awards
Post by: Steel Drummer on Thu 18/05/2006 04:12:20
Well, actually, 2 qeustions. 1. Do you need to register your game to be in the AGS awards? 2. Can anyone vote on the award winners?

No. Yes.

question 1: You need to have your game in the games database apparently. This was a hidden rule last time which knocked Automation out of the running.

Not that you're bitter about it or anything...

There's no such rule, it's just an excuse to knock your game out of the running.

scotch was completely wrong
games must be in the games DB and only forum members can vote

Yes, but obviously you don't care about them.  Monster.

The rule really wasn't hidden, Eric. It was stated in the run up to the Awards. You just didn't expect the rules to have changed from last year, I'm guessing.

Actually, the previous year games did have to be in the games DB to get voted on, as CJ's voting script (which he reused this year) used the games database info. It's just that someone (Pesty, I assume) went through the Completed Games Forum and chased up those that weren' t in. It's hardly an onerous requirement, unlike trawling a year's worth of CGA. But I've had this argument with Eric by PM already and it didn't reach a conclusion (other than Eric being pissed at me :( )

I'm quite happy for Automation to be entered for next year's awards, if I'm running them.

Incidentally, there are actually invisible games in the DB for the character categories, etc. that you could vote on that CJ hasn't cleaned up yet...

At least this thread publicises the requirement further, so the problem shouldn't happen again. I also did give Automation special mention on the podcast.

Yes AGA, and as I said, one shouldn't have to read a 10 page thread about people arguing/discussing how the awards will be run. One should put all the rules in the official AGS awards thread, which it wasn't.

It's not the fact that it was required, it's the fact that it wasn't officially announced.

But whatever, techincally anyone can vote on the awards as long as they register, they don't even need to post once.

Funny, I googled AGS awards and one particular site came up that made me ask this question: it was an ags award tripod site from 2002 or 2003 and it said you needed to "registrer your game here" to be in the awards. That probably was changed though.

That's DG's old site, he ran the first few awards. Pay it no mind, it hasn't been updated in years, as you can see.

I really should delete my old tripod sites to avoid confusion. Especially my "oFfIcIaL cOrEy HaIm FaNcLuB" site.
