------------------------------
UPDATE(February 2nd, 2009) - You probably thought I would just go away....well you're wrong. I'm still here, and as it's the beginning of a new month. I bring forth to you a new magazine. I haven't been updating as often, because I've been busy in life, but I'm making arrangements to find the time of day, don't you worry.
The Adventunare Times Volume 1, Issue 2 (http://www.jmaven.com/acequest/magazine/The_Adventunare_Times-February_09.pdf)
------------------------------
UPDATE(January 6th, 2009) - I'm still working on the game, although I haven't updated my diary recently. Additional excitement, I changed the web-site styles. The other website was too restricting. I haven't fully tested browser compatibility issues with this one, but I made sure it worked on my current IE and Firefox. If you have any issues tell me about it, and I'll see if there isn't a fix (other than you getting an updated browser). I also plan on doing a few more tweaks in the future.
The good news is, I don't allow myself to make such big changes UNLESS I have worked on my game. So any change to the website does mean that I have progressed in the actual game, in some fashion or another.
------------------------------
UPDATE(December 30th, 2008) - That's right...I made a magazine. Be entertained! I command it.
The Adventunare Times Volume 1, Issue 1 (http://www.jmaven.com/acequest/magazine/The_Adventunare_Times-January_09.pdf)
------------------------------
UPDATE(December 8th, 2008) - I just came back from an extended vacation. Which is why you haven't received an update for a tiny while. I'm still alive, and I'm back to work with just as much vigor on the game.
------------------------------
UPDATE(November, 25th 2008) - Can someone say competition? Check out the website and read the Home message and find out for yourself. Also, I heard mention that there's another download of something available on the website. I went there myself, just to make sure. There was something. But I'll let you find out for yourself.
------------------------------
UPDATE(November 21st, 2008) - A lot of updates to many of the pages of the website. Check them out. I added a Fan Art section, a new poll, updated diary message, updated home message, and a comments section. Not too shabby, considering I worked on the game, too.
------------------------------
UPDATE(November 17th, 2008) - One section of the game has been created and a new poll has been added. Not all of the game has been developed, so it's difficult to give you percentages, but there has been consistent, or at least constant, work done. Expect more information in the future.
Also there's a new section called Ask Ace. There's actually a way to get Ace to answer your questions correctly. See if you can figure it out. If you can't, send me a story on the story section, and I'll send you an e-mail back on proper instructions on how to correctly use it to amaze friends and family.
------------------------------
OK, I'm completely disregarding the rules in this forum. I have not started working on this game. What I have done it launch the website that will be integral to creating the game.
See I'm starting over again. Yes, I'm allowed to do that.
Since I've technically already created this game before, there's already an inherent plot that's been developed.
For those not knowledgeable in forum lore. Ace Quest was released six years ago when AGS was still DOS based. Was it a good game, was it a bad game? The answer is yes. But more importantly during the creation of Ace Quest, I pimped the hell out of the game. Which is why you still (very rarely) see "Play Ace Quest!!111!" on a few messages. In six years I've learned one thing...pimping is fun, and I don't intend to stop. So I officially release Ace Quests official website (It's a work in progress). Which will be the launching pad used to create the game. If you have time, go the "The Story" section and submit your own story. While a general plot exists...I'm letting you guys give me ideas for free!
acequest (http://www.jmaven.com/acequest/)
Now I don't really expect to be releasing screen shots, because I've decided to go with a skeleton approach to creating the game. That is, I'll create the rooms before the graphics, and then either take my hand at it, or force someone else to take their hand in it. Either way, it won't be done until the game is mostly programmed. At which time, I'll promptly put on my pimp hat, and go amongst the masses.
-MillsJROSS
So...much...forum rule...breaking.
/faints
I can see the headlines..."Old guard sets bad example for plebs!"
I'd prefer to see Ace Quest 2, rather than a remake, but whoo either way.
Now now ... rules is rules.
It's an interesting way to go about making a game I suppose but, alas, does not [yet] belong in the GiP.
Post in the Need Help with Your Game thread for the time being. Then, when screenshots are ready ... let me know and I can unlock this, or you can start a new thread.
Moving this to the Adventure Related Talk & Chat
Look forward to seein' what you come up with!
So far, the pimpin' seems to be working. I, for example, always used to think Ace Quest was an hourgame made by FSi in '04. Live and learn. ;)
I remember Ace Quest
If I recall correctly I did the beta testing :=
hooray millsJross for the remake
please make sure it remains in the spirit of the old one
All the original nasties in 16 bit? Awesome, good luck Mills! :)
/me vomits
I was briefly a beta tester for Ace Quest as well.
This is exciting, I'm excited.
I might just have to go and play Ace Quest...
All I have to say is, create Ace Quest ... again ... so I can ...
Play ace Quest!1!! ... again.
All I can say is that creating this website has given me a driving force to actually work on the game, and vice-versa. I've done some work already on the intro, and updated the website with some new information, as well as a new page. I'm hoping this created a vicious circle of creativity. I'm definitely going to make this in spirit to the original. Don't expect the same game, though (otherwise, what would be the point in re-doing it?).
But I need your help. Go on the website...send me some stories. They can be short, they can be long, but I'm thinking of using them in the game documentation. Take a poll (right now there is only one, but that can change very quickly). It gives me a boost of energy whenever I get a response.
I plan to add the original to game to the download section, as well as the unfinished sequel. (I'm on my new computer, and I just can't be bothered to setup my old computer with the old information). So be on the look for downloadable content in the future.
-MillsJROSS
If you think this is pimping, you should have been around when Mills released Ace Quest the first time :)
And he has alliances.

An update to Ace Quest? I can see it now...
I love that picture, ProgZmax, and I want your permission to put it up on the site in it's own fan made art section. I promise it will be on the top of that sections page, mostly because it's the only fan art in existence.
If you haven't been to my website recently, and by looking at my web statistics, YOU haven't. We've supplemented our site with some goodies. Or one goody, but it's worth your time. Or, it's at least worth my time. Check it out. I promise the website doesn't bite.
Ace Quest
(http://www.jmaven.com/acequest/index.php)
I also, want to thank AGA for testing the new section. So I'm not prepared to respond if it doesn't work. That's how much confidence I have in AGA.
-MillsJROSS
Sure, you can use it for whatever!
If you need a composer for Ace Quest dare, I say I'd love to help out.
Update (read the first post).
ProgZmax - You have prime fan art space now, luck you.
Dualnames - I'm not yet ready to start working with music in the game. When I'm ready to get some backgrounds and other graphic related things with the game, I'll keep you in mind. I'm not sure, yet, what I want to go for musically, since I think that's something that needs to be paired with the graphics. If you want to fiddle around and make "Variations on an Ace Quest Theme", so I can get a feel for your breadth as a composer, by all means fiddle away.
Original Ace Quest Theme (http://www.jmaven.com/acequest/download/acequest_theme.mid)
The whole new game is not going to have that music. It's annoying. But I do want a few hints of some of the older "hits" in the new game.
-MillsJROSS
I love the way the original theme makes me feel like I'm having a fit. Totally adds to the gameplay :D
So good news. It's competition time! I need a banner for the website. My home page explains it much better than I could ever do here, without repeating what I want verbatim. But essentially, I'd like to supplement the website here or there with a little something called, style. I know, you're worried the content will go the wayside if I start worrying about such things. But I assure you, I'm quite good at multitasking. Especially, since I'm not doing the artwork, YOU might be, though. In lieu of payment, I will give you crazy advertising on the website. The banner will be a link to the winners personal website of their choosing.
Also. Ace Quest 2 (the unfinished game) is now available for download. Try to hold back your excitement. Meanwhile, I'll be going home for Thanksgiving, so think of this as a nice little present to get you through the week.
Mods - It's by far the best piece of music I've put to computer. It's epileptic style matches the original game fairly well. Of course, the tune will haunt you for the rest of your life. Or at least until you turn the speakers off.
Ace Quest (http://www.jmaven.com/acequest/index.php)
-MillsJROSS
Is there any preferable size with the banner?
Just dig this up to intentionally pimp the game and clutter up some space. :=

P|_4Y 4C3 Q|_|357!1!1!11!
You're fan art has been cleared for entrance into the website. Congratulations, you're in an elite club. Your friends might feign disinterest when you tell them that's your art, but really they're jealous.
Preferable Size of the banner width(600px) height(75px). The height does not include the menu. If you wanted the menu to be included in your banner the height is around 115px. Also the competition will go a week into December. There is no hard deadline, but I won't be responsive because I'll be visiting my family. Good luck to those of you who wish to participate, and a big thank you will come your way.

Updated first post...New Ace Quest Magazine. Enjoy!
The Adventunare Times Volume 1, Issue 1 (http://www.jmaven.com/acequest/magazine/The_Adventunare_Times-January_09.pdf)
-MillsJROSS
Not really an update, but I did provide a solution guide to the puzzlers. Both were tricky, the first one was intentionally tricky, the second one was tricky because of the syntax I used wasn't necessarily clear. Next time I'll scrutinize the puzzle more and try to make the easier one easier than this last one.
Solution Guide (http://www.jmaven.com/acequest/magazine/The_Adventunare_Times-January_09-solution.pdf)
The full solution can be found quickly by looking for pages with brown, the other pages take you through my process to solve these puzzles. I just highlight the step, and the corresponding boxes to the step. I hope this guide is clear enough to follow. Good day.
>>Updated...fixed link. If it's still not working though, you should be able to navigate to it, via the main website (Which consequentially has been updated with a new look).
Main Site (http://www.jmaven.com/acequest/index.php)

Is it the solution guide? The links seems to be unchanged. :=
New Month, new Issue. Bump.
The Adventunare Times Volume 1, Issue 2 (http://www.jmaven.com/acequest/magazine/The_Adventunare_Times-February_09.pdf)
-MillsJROSS
Something jumped into your link there.. after a little playing with the url, it can also be found: Here (http://www.jmaven.com/acequest/magazine/The_Adventunare_Times-February_09.pdf) :P
Yay, it's fixed.
Good job Ryan..no wait. So you're looking for character artists...
I had fixed the link, once Ryan made me aware of it, and just didn't take the time to say so in the edited post.
Yes, I'm looking for character sprite artists. I'll probably work on a new section in the website for applying/contacting me about this position next week, as I need to create some formal process for getting someone on the team (it's just me and Ace so far), as well as, defining the role they will play more clearly. I'll update this thread when that information becomes available on the website. It'll make me take time to work on the website a little, which I always find entertaining.
Sorry I couldn't put a more substantial puzzle in this week's magazine, but I was running short on time. I'll post the solution to the riddle sometime next week, too.
-MillsJROSS
Sorry it took me so long to get to this. I generally get to do a lot of my work during weekends, but these past few weekends I've had other obligations (My grandmother turned 80...woo!). Good news...now there's an official place to go, should you want to help me during the game making process. If not, there's still an official place you can go...but I'd rather not say it here.
Jobs (http://www.jmaven.com/acequest/jobs.php)
I've also fixed the magazine link to volume 2 on my main page...it took me two weeks to realize it was linked incorrectly. If you have any problems filling out an application, complain through my comment system, or just send me a PM. Thanks!
-MillsJROSS
I'd apply if I wasn't sure for two things.
Quote from: Dualnames on Fri 20/02/2009 09:11:16
I'd apply if I wasn't sure for two things.
I won't apply without being sure for four things.
I won't apply either, for eight things. Anyone else?
-MillsJROSS
For sixteen things, I wont apply. Sorry.
It would take a pretty big man indeed to capture Ace's spherical magnificence.
For 42 things I want apply...
*hits his head on wall screaming "FFS"*
Blah blah blah...third magazine is out...blah.

Fun read! I enjoyed the humour :D

Need I say more? Well, too bad!

Greetings, one and all!
We've decided to open up a new job position! Who knows what mediocrity awaits those who dare join the Ace Quest team.
The job is titled as Script Reviewer. That's right, you can review/edit scripts (of course, with the knowledge that I'll review/edit what you send back). However, you have to vow not to reveal treasured Ace Quest secrets. The whole game will be opened up to you in written form, revealing plot/fart jokes/puzzles/wonders that mere non-Script Reviewers will know nothing about.
Click here I dare you! (http://www.jmaven.com/acequest/jobs.php)
