So I just wanted to say that Uru: Ages beyond Myst is on the Top 10 best selling games in USA.
That means there still is audience for adventure games, no matter what they say! 8)
I think the Myst series has always sold well. The first one has sold over 12 million copies!! You should rephrase it to "there's still an audience for Myst adventure games" :P
I think Myst sold well because it was the first CD-Rom game that was worth having, when the technology was still new (7th Guest was earlier though, if I remember correctly). So Myst was packaged in with new PCs with CD-Rom drives.
Yes, Your subject header "Adventure games dont sell badly...most of the time" should read "Adventure games can't sell for toffee except one." which is very very sad, but sadly true.
Maybe it is good that people start with Myst, and then they go deeper in the adventure Game.
If Myst touches just ONE person and brings it over where all the other adventures are.. we wont fail.
WHAT am I saying?!
If someone plays Myst, he will have to play other adventures, or else!!

Or maybe the'll think that all adventure games are as boring as Myst and never touch one ever again.. Though it might get some extremely dull people interested:
"Yay! Let's click on stuff, look at the pretty graphics, and have no idea what we're supposed to do! I wonder if Maniac Mansion is this cool?"
Yeah, I believe it's more to do with the fact that it's Myst rather than its an adventure game. I heard Myst has somewhat of a cult following to it these days.
BTW, I was the one that trashed the island in Pyst, HAHAHAHAHAHA!
:p

you jerk mods!! John Goodman was so angry!

Bwhahahaha, I haven't heard
Pyst mentioned in like 8 years, or whenever it was. Awesome.
I think that if they start to decide that adventure games should be more like Myst because they sell well, I will have to cut open my stomach and flush my intestines down the toilet.
Likewise, Rode.

Maybe, but it also means that people may hate adventure games more :P
Well, I played the demo of URU and I must say that it had the worst character control I've seen in a while.. it was like attempting to do point+click but not quite and 3d movement and not quite either... ???

It's only good if you select "1st Person Only" from the options. The 3rd person control is horrible. Use right click to look around and W+S to move backwards and forwards.
just played the demo... that is the first time i felt a little ill playing a first person game. the controls made me want to die and the mouse cursor has a little lag on it so it comes to a smooth stop [or i had my settings too high]
thank the lord he doesn't get tired from running or we'd have a serious problem on our hands.
i really really really hope they fix the character control some how, not that i'd buy this game but just cause damn!! it's shitty
To bring this back up:
URU live is dead...
they cancelled the online aspect of URU
yeah, well, you know, we couldn't expect anything more.
And what aobut that AGS multiplayer plugin?
Runaway has already sold half a million copies just in Europe!(Read the inventory 12) I think that adventures still sell(though not as much as they used to), if they are good.
And I also get the impression that people are starting to go off 1st person adventures these days.
I ARES STUPID ;)
/me debates with puddin' over Doom3 being an adventure
