...but FoY being distributed on multiple computer game magazine discs & having printed reviews isn't copyright infringement, Progz? And those things I didn't even have control of. You know me, I enjoy taking risks :)

I don't really need to explain to you again that the only thing that really brings up legal issues of FoY is the term "Indiana Jones", as that's the only non-original thing about the game. C&D's still don't really bother me. All we'd need do is remove the name "Indiana Jones" and call the game Fountain of Youth. You can't sue for a likeness.

Oh, and didn't you know, any publicity is good publicity :) But hey, I'm a blue cup half full kinda guy. It'd be good of you to explain a bit more to me how this could create "bad" publicity.

Dave Gilbert

Well, judging by the amount of illegal stuff that is actually *sold* at the conventions I go to, I don't think m0ds has much to worry about.  Course, Indiana Jones is much bigger than some cheap knock-off english dub of an anime.

m0ds

You want DVD? I get you Night Museum 2, one-fifty yeah?

I'll message you before Sunday about getting some correct details Dave, and you, along with the other guest speakers, will be sent an update email early next week.

Take care

m0ds

Hi folks, a small update and I need some opinions.

Firstly, still holding off the tickets until there's a bit more interest, locations cost a bomb and I don't know if it's going to go ahead still just yet - but that doesn't mean I'm not still trying :)

Right, anyway, I need some comments.

Wizarbox are interested in attending and sending along Steve Ince (their scenarist & writer of Broken Sword). They'd like to display/talk about So Blonde, Risen & Gray Matter. DOES THIS INTEREST YOU?. Let me know. Please let me know also if this is a pulling factor for you, or a MAJOR pulling factor for you, or if it really doesn't change your mind/opinion.

Many thanks! :)

Intense Degree

For me that is a MAJOR pulling factor because:

1. Big broken sword fan.

2. Love Jane Jensen & therefore very interested in seeing Gray Matter displayed.

3. Liked So Blonde (for the most part) and interested to hear more.

Llama Val

I don't know if you should need to ask this, Mods. Any adventure game company willing to send along developers and willing to show off games can only be a POSITIVE and GREAT thing!

The more games being exhibited, the better.

That said, I am of the mind that you should sort all that stuff out - getting companies to commit to exhibit games and talks [Both commercial and indie... not just indie], and THEN think about tickets. There can't be much interest (outside of the AGS forus) until there is a confirmed event happening with a confirmed lineup of confirmed guests and exhibitors, then you can start getting word out and press releases out and then I have no doubt that there would be more than enough interest  for the event to go ahead.

I think more exhibitors (in this case, Wizardbox?) can only help to draw more interest to the event.

LimpingFish

Smashing work, old bean!

If Wizarbox attend, and bring Gray Matter, then you're on to a minor coup. Gray Matter won't be seen at GamesCom 2009 (apparently), which seems to be the last (the only?) major European game convention this year, so AdventureX would already have an ace up it's sleeve and a major pulling factor for the adventure masses.

Aside from that, I'd say you've already got a pretty strong line-up.

But I'd agree that until you finalise the whole shebang, people (ie. prospective attendees) will circle with curiosity rather than committing to tickets.

And once you're finalised, the gaming media will (hopefully) be more inclined to start covering it.

Coverage = Attendees = FUNGASM!

EDIT: 'course, it's easy for us to say "Do it!", when we're not responsible for the initial costs. What AdventureX needs is a investor, someone willing to contribute to the initial outlay, and risk recouping their money from ticket sales. Or a committee of investors!

Quality, thanks for the reassurances guys! I've been a bit mystified about this whole project lately, but getting Wizarbox involved will definitely help motivate me further. You're right LimpingChrish about everything really :P We do need an investor, I'll have a word with a few people- but again, any suggestions on that front is most welcome. I'm going to re-approach the people who said we can use their hall for free, albeit a little out of the way of the centre of London. I might look into Birmingham as an alternative now, too.

Also thanks for the heads-up about the Gray Matter game situation. I noticed it was 2nd on AG.com's most wanted, which is cool! And the fact AdventureX could possibly the first time they show it is very exciting!!

And Val I agree with you also about sorting stuff out. I've been really busy lately in a way and unable to focus on AdventureX in a way but all your infos aer belong to me now, and are pretty sound advice! I need to delve back into the people making it happen again now rather than the front end shiz, so cheers - I will try :)

Intense Degree - thanks! Glad it's a pulling factoid for you :) I'll see if they can supply a so blonde blonde too ;)

Llama Val

Good luck Mods! Like LimpingFish said, it's a lot easier for us to sit here and type, "Do it!" than actually doing it would be! :)

That said if there is anyway that anybody else can help you out with this I know that I, and I'm sure others, would be more than willing to offer any assistance!

Azure

I loved So Blonde and I'm really excited about Grey Matter, so I say :yay!
I wouldn't mind a giant diamond either.
TBH it all depends what you want from an event. You could go for a big hall and have exhibits/tables etc or if funding isn't forthcoming what about finding a pub with function rooms or something? Function rooms could be space for talks and general pub would be social space? if you can promise a crowd some venues are happy to be free or cheap since visitors will buy drinks. Just an idea, would love a full on adventure con!

We could have an "Recruit a Team" booth at the event to complement the thread of the same name on these here boards.

We could prepare a little book of adverts and calls for help from developers (AGS or otherwise).  Each advert just outlining the project and the kinds of help wanted and contact details.  The "booth" could consist of a simple pin-board format, or maybe something a bit more thought-out.

Mods, you could also ask the attending compaies if they fancy bringing along details of possible vacancies to the event.  And encourage attendees to bring a little portfolio of work with them incase they happen to get talking to the right people.

As well as being a celebration of games from the past and a preview of games just-around-the-corner, AdventureX could also end up being the birthplace of some amazing new projects.

Moving to London in a few weeks to start a Masters so thought I'd put me name down on the list of interested parties... and those interested in parties...

Seems like it's all gonna kick off around the new year as the TIGSource forum people are planning a TIGJam in London/Cambridge around December/January as well...

Did you ever get to that free venue in Battersea? What was the capacity?
I wouldn't be too coy about asking certain places, they will be getting money from you after all and providing a service, you can always just say no even if you do visit the place and get quotes etc... Ask hotels, universities (they obviously have decent lecture facilities and most probably areas for conferencing etc...), games companies for their offices... its not a ridiculous thing to be asking for...

The more and more quotes you get will give a better idea whether you need a sponsor at all and what you will need them to provide for you... a location is definitely the key thing here to be focused on first... and you can always upgrade if you find the demand increases (making sure you look up cancellation policies of these places of course)...

Anyhow, good luck, hope to see you there...

Myself and a friend (and possibly another) are keen to attend this (it also gives me a chance to catch up with them as they moved to london), however of course like I'm sure many of you are, we're holding off anything until you actually have a full confirmed amount of guests, and actually know where you are holding this.

By Guests we mean speakers, not fellow nerds buying tickets.

It's a bit weird that it's this close and there is no confirmation on anything yet other than 2 speakers. The venue is the most important!

<ProgZMax> I got an idea - I reached in my pocket and pulled out my Galen. <timofonic2> Maybe I'm a bit gay, enough for do multitask and being romantical

m0ds

Aye, TBH its weird I'm actually bothering to try and do this. But don't hold your hopes up for 2010. Thanks though for the support :)

Stee

I like the idea, and will more than likely go, but why not just set a venue and say, right there's x amount of tickets first come first serve

Dualnames

Stupid question: When will it be hosted and where? And secondly do you choose exhibitors or do they choose you? Just wondering..
Worked on Strangeland, Primordia, Hob's Barrow, The Cat Lady, Mage's Initiation, Until I Have You, Downfall, Hunie Pop, and every game in the Wadjet Eye Games catalogue (porting)

m0ds

Dual: London and both :)

Location is coming along slowly as always. The website is updated a bit, I've taken off the links to guests, exhibitors and stuff until this properly has a location. More news soon

m0ds

Right, hoping all goes well I'm going to take advantage of that project pledge malarky - and providing we reach the goal, AdventureX will be a doddle to run, with free stuff for pledgers to boot! And maybe even FLY Vince Twelve in to demonstrate Resanoo :)

m0ds

Gash, US residents only  :(

I'll be pestering a few of you Amerikanas to see if you're happy to link the Kickstarter project to your Amazon account, and I'll pay you to transfer the funds to my bank account if the funding is successful.

If anyone knows a way I can set up/open a US bank account then let me know, but knowing this day and age, it's impossible, cos I'm probably a cyber-terrorist.  ::)
