Wow, great inspiration, thank you!

That's true Chris, now that Yahtzee is connected to PC Gamer it might be a bit easier :) But it still seems ZP rules his life. No brainer is the key issue! Luckily I've had contact with everyone I mentioned in the first post so it's really just a matter of do they trust me enough to want to come and do it! Magazines are of KEY importance with this event, because it really is only in the last few years that the mags have taken such a considerable interest. Ever since I was a kid I've wanted to see my game in a PC magazine, and now I have - well, yes, they need to play a key role :)

Nickydude, I've kept my eye on RetroGamer and so far I've remained pretty shocked that they've excluded the AGS community and other similar engines. But your suggestion is still very valid, definitely worth getting in touch with :)

Darth, you'd be a very interesting speaker, I'd want to listen! I agree I haven't a clue what you might talk about, but even just a little talk about JP & Cosmo would be great. Or just make a game and sit by a laptop and pimp it ;) Either way, I think really you ARE confident enough!

But yeah, continued thanks! Looks like this could work :)

If it's in January, airfare to the UK would be pretty cheap, since it's low season.  I'd be interested in attending.

As far as speaking?  I dunno, it seems weird that anyone would want to hear anything I'd have to say when you have big names like Ron Gilbert et al attending.  But I wouldn't be opposed to doing it.

In any case, good luck with it!  It would be great to see this idea realized.

Sounds fun! If I still live in London then, which I think I will, I'd come!

Creed Malay

I'd come! And I might even have something to show....

Would the expo be limited to showcasing AGS games?

Ron Gilbert's the standout name for me.

What can I say... It's simply flawless idea to make such adventure gamers and creators gathering event with the maximum of warming spirit.
If I by any chance get enough money I'll be mindlessly rushing to it. But anyway I wish the best of luck to Mods and everybody else who'd participate in it.

Stupot

I have no idea what my timetable is going to look like in a year from now, but if I have a clear couple of days I'd not only love to attend, but I'd be glad to lend an extra pair of hands to the cause in any way necessary.  It would be worth putting together some sort of team for the general running of things on the day.  As long as we don't mis out on too much of the action.

Interesting...I think I can only afford one major trip a year. Since Mittens is close this year, though, that does free up one major trip. I'm not going to go so far as to commit myself to coming, yet.

Another idea that you might want to toss around...what about an on-line expo? I know you lose something by not being able to meet everyone face to face. There are advantages to presenting everything online that I think are strong enough to at least consider. You don't have to worry about booking people in a hotel, since they're reaching the expo through the ol' internet thingy-ma-bob. Thus, the ticket prices can be reduced. You'd still charge people, because you'd still want to pay those people who made some sort of presentation. You can get more people to view everything.

When push comes to shove, though...face to face allows you to really meet people. You could always do both. Have the expo, but schedule on-line things in tandem. Good luck with this!

Online would certainly work for me, and I could even present...something! ._.

Trent R

Perhaps a live feed of the face-to-face event. Sure, it wouldn't help get a job or anything, but I'd enjoy it to listen to the presentations and such.

To give back to the AGS community, I can get you free, full versions of commercial software. Recently, Paint Shop Pro X, and eXPert PDF Pro 6. Please PM me for details.

I'd be in... and I would probably try to get alkis (atropos studios) to join as well, but then again no promises made (for him, I'm in! ;D)

The more this idea goes around the more people will attend. And with VERY reasonable tickets it would be very slick and easy to get many people to join really!

Miez

Interesting - I'd certainly attend.

Dualnames

I'd come. certainly try to at least. Cool idea.
Worked on Strangeland, Primordia, Hob's Barrow, The Cat Lady, Mage's Initiation, Until I Have You, Downfall, Hunie Pop, and every game in the Wadjet Eye Games catalogue (porting)

It'd be great to run some online thing at the same time, taking perhaps the best from the show and including a webcam, but I know that would tempt a lot of people to not bother to go. But yes Mills, and Progz, wouldn't wanna exclude people like you :)

The problem with if it was all done online, is it would be hard to generate interest from media, I'd assume. And, unfortunately, I'd have no desire to set it up or run it, lol. I do appreciate your idea though!! But none the less, it's probably time for me to begin the next step, asking at other forums, getting in touch with future plc, all the rest. I'll keep you informed.

As for engines and what not, AdventureX would be open to ANY adventure game developers, no matter which engine they use. But naturally, priority will reside with AGS community developers and my friends, for reasons that go without saying :)

Thanks people!!

Stupot

How about putting together some kind of accompanying magazine or programme?  In it could be more articles, interviews, tutorials, etc. from artists and developers (and other industry bods) who couldn't attend but wanted to be involved somehow.  It could also come with a free CD of various video tutorials, demos and even some full games.

If you can get Future interested in the event, you might even be able to get them to publish it... although that might be a tad optimistic.

It might yes, but definitely worth a shot! The magazine sounds like a much better idea. Naturally there would be a newsletter to keep those who are interested informed, so it could double up as that.

What I said originally though is that developers who cannot attend but want to be involved should send their game through to the expo for someone else to present on their behalf. That means minimal extra effort by me, and minimal effort for them.

:)

Small update here :)

I'm now awaiting replies on Ben, Ron, Charles, Mr Boakes and Hal Barwood. Please mention any other names, or any particular AGS members you want to meet/speak to you for 25 mins on some kind of subject.

Thanks!

auriond

Late to the thread, but I just wanted to add that my brother studies in London so there's a good chance I'm going there every year :) The only thing is that my timetable only allows for a year-end trip. So I can only attend if this event  is held in December :(

But man, wouldn't I like to be there!

Thanks auriond! I'm afraid I can't really shift it back, I want it to be a January event, something to do around my birthday time, hehe!! Maybe you can re-arrange your schedule for the next one? :)

More news, Stupot will be pleased to hear that Jonathon Boakes is near enough a confirmed guest now too, who will be doing a talk & answering questions.

Radiant, Brian Moriarty is an option and definitely a valid one, I'll have to see what kind of interest there would be having him attend elsewhere. Not sure the budget could fly more than one guest from the USA, maybe two though :)

I read on his Wiki page he worked on The Dig, 2nd version which was unreleased - anyone know more about this??

:)
