Title: AGI to the GBA

Mmm.. Acronymlicious.

Anyway, a guy named Brian Provacino has developed an emulator for the Game Boy Advance that plays old AGI games! You need to get Flash Cards and a reader, but you can download the emulated games from his website.  He's got the first four KQ's, LSL1, SQ 1 and 2, and a whole bunch more.

He's even got a PC game boy emulator, so you can download PC games emulated for Gameboy to play on your PC.  That just kind of hurts my brain, though.

a rewriteable GBA cartridge (known as a flash

You can find reviews of various flash linkers/carts here, there are more than these around though, check out the forum there for "what flash linker should I buy" threads, there's loads:

Before you go on a buying splurge you could test the thing on an emulator. Download the program and get hold of some agi game and compile a gba rom. Name it with a bin or gba extension. I.e. Larry.bin. Then download Visual Boy Advance for instance from here:

It has a few quirks at the moment, I couldn't finish the game in the last picture because not all verbs and subjects I needed showed up in the word lists. Could just be because it's an unprofessional game of course.

Many years ago.  Possibly before he started creating SCI Studio.  Speaking of SCI Studio...WHERE THE FUCK IS IT?  I'm sorry for being so impatient, but he hasn't even said anything about it for over a year.  I'd like to at least know if he's still developing it.

Hi! Snake mentioned there were some questions over there that needed answering, so here I am :)

First off, head over to http://www.bripro.com/gbagi/download.php and get version 1.2 of the injection utility. It fixes a bug that got introduced when I converted my console injection utility to a GUI version, which in turn, fixes the errors in the words list. Now you can complete LSL1 and the other games.

Next, I started this quite some time ago, just didn't annouce it to more than a handful of people. That's been my new trend, to keep projects pretty quiet until they are near completion, as to let myself relax, and not put you all through the agony of waiting for so long. Plus it's a nice surprise when released.

Esseb: Cool pictures! I can't take any myself, since I don't have a digital camera, so nice work! I stuck my GBA on a flatbed scanner and they turned out about the same. When I increased the brightness for the screen, the gameboy itself got too bight and distorted. Guess we both need SPs :)

There's documentation on the site and such, but basically, all you need to do is download the first file on the downloads page (GBAGI + Injector 1.2), then select the filename to save it as (ie. games.gba), then "Add Game", select the games you want to add, and click "Build ROM".

hahaha. Nice.... I do look at this board every so often you know.... In fact, I first found out about it because EVERY site that links to mine (ie. this topic), are logged and I check out who's talking about my software :)

Anyway, I have been developing it, yes. I've been busy with other stuff too, yes. I've done quite a lot on it since the last web site update. In fact, if you look at the SCI message board, there's loads of info on it's progress, including the decompiler in it. Like I say on my site, some times I get caught up in coding and don't get to update my site a lot, however, the message board always has tons of news not found on the site. http://www.mega-tokyo.com/forum

Woah this is cool. If i had me a GBA i would seriously consider getting one of those fandangled flash carts.

Also, maybe i didn't look hard enough on the site, or is there no way to get Space Quest 3 and others of that version of AGI to work withought alot more programming?.

Space Quest 3 is SCI, so GBAGI can't be modified to run it. It would require a whole different emulator. However, if you ask Vivendi Universal Games really nicely, maybe they'll hire me to make a GBSCI :)
