Well, I tried to get CJ to commit to fixing the voting page at Bonfirittens this weekend, but his response was "I'm too drunk just now to thing about that". This was after two cans of Carling...  ::)

Anyway, I will keep up the pressure and hopefully all will be hunky dory soon.

Okay, so here go my two cents:
I suggest that the plugin category be merged with a possible module award, there simply isn't sense in having two separate categories for basically the same thing.
I also strongly support the idea of a most innovative game award, I personally am pretty bored with stereotypic games and think that ags game developers should be encouraged to try new ideas and push the genre further with an award.
A best voice acting award might be considered, since there have been several games with voice acting released this year. Maybe the nominees in that category shouldn't be 5 but 3. What do you think?

Edit: Since apparently there is no best plugin category, but 'resources' one, why just not include modules in it too?

   (a) A "Best Module" award: I've got to win something somehow ;) Public vote. Maybe we can name it the "SSH's dignity memorial award"

Yup, and you're all screwed.  I heard that Erin hired Clinton Curtis to help SSH program the voting page.

What can I say? I hate democracy. :P

...but seriously, vote for Spooks. Otherwise the afterlife might not be too pleasant for you.

Should we have the usual yearly chat about how to deal with the (allegedly many) people who ignore the category descriptions and simply nominate and vote for their one favorite game in every category?

Good point, I propose a rule that says that any voter can't vote for one game for more than 3 categories. If they do it their vote is DQed.

SSH

I don't think we need to be so dogmatic about this. I'll keep an eye on the votes, and if the problem starts to be seen, I can:

a) Contact those doing it and ask them if they really played any other games, etc.
b) Remove those voters who can't give a good answer

And Erin doesn't need to hack the voting page. Judging by previous reposnses, she just needs to post some pics in the Long Overdue thread and she'll have millions of adoring fans ready to do her bidding anyway ;)

Also, I think the www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk thing means that the games pages are wrokign again, so go add your games!

Which is why I have created the ULTIMATE game for getting votes! It will beat Erin's game because it STARS Erin!

buloght

Matt  :D that's a good attempt at winnig best background art, how does anyone have a chance now  :D

The Ivy

Ha ha ha, wow. That made my day...slightly terrifying. ;)

ManicMatt

Haha! If it makes you feel less terrified, I deleted this image off my hard drive the second it was on photobucket. (Of course it's still there for your viewing till this page disapears)

And no you weren't on my hard drive already, I purposely seeked it out for this occasion, mmmkay! So:

Glad we cleared this up.  :)

I think the voting progression remaind just a tiny bit too not secret last year ¬¬ Otherwise, decently run.

The plugin/module/resource stuff should be one category, I think, to clear it up a bit. Voice acting award's also a good idea in my opinion. I'm not sure what to do with the innovation one, but as I haven't played even near to every game released this year I wouldn't know what all people have come up with. But sure, some sort of technical or otherwise achievement closer to AGS than what the lifetime award is could very well work.

I notice that in 2005, there were two awards for "scripting". I think these should be renamed "dialogue" and "programming" to clarify the difference.

But AGS scripting isn't programming, is it? People use quite a bounch of ready-made script functions most of the time, so it should be 'Dialogue writing' and 'Scripting' or something...

Vote TOMB OF THE MOON for BEST SLIDER PUZZLE category!!!1!one
I used to make games but then I took an IRC in the knee.

If you're using the interaction editor, that would be scripting. But it is my understanding that most people (at least, most people good enough to get an award :) ) use the C++ - like language instead.

Mac

I think there's more to writing a game than just the dialogue, so perhaps it should be Best Writing or Story or something like that instead.

SSH

Ummm, no-one actually seems to have looked at the wiki page I referenced at the beginning, as they are arguing over stuff that is not based on last year's category names. So, for you people too lazy to click on a link, here are the categories we had last time:

Best Game Created with AGS
Best Gameplay
Best Story
Best Dialogue Writing
Best Puzzles
Best Player Character
Best Non-Player Character
Best Background Art
Best Character Art
Best Animation
Best Programming
Best Use of Sound
Best Music
Best Documentation
Best Short Game
Best Demo
Best Non-Adventure Game Created with AGS
Best AGS Resource
The P3N1S Award (Worst AGS Game)
Lifetime achievement award

And so far, I think I'm leaning towards one extra award, decided by a committee after public nominations, for Most Innovative use of AGS which will cover innovative games, modules, plugins, non-adventures, etc.

Buckethead

I should go for the worst game some time.... that shouldn't be to hard to do  :)

ManicMatt

You've not played Obi's games then.  :P  ;D

Buckethead

to be honest, I only played are we there yet so far. But it was brilliant. Really, a making a lame crap game shouldn't be too hard. I'll just make graphics that hurt your eyes, music that splatters your ears and puzzels that make no sense.

ah yes, victory will be mine !!  :=

For someone who makes decent AGS modules, which category would his or her nomination fall under? Best programming? Best New AGS resource?
