Hi there everybody,
This thread will provide information on the ceremony.
Times
The AGS Awards ceremony will be held at 6pm GMT on the 31/1/2004.
Voting will end 4pm GMT 31/1/2004.
I have decided to start the ceremony at 6pm because it is the beginning of #ags' peak time.
Ceremony
The ceremony will be held on Quakenet in an IRC channel called #agsawards.
Please arrive between 5:30pm-6pm, as the show will begin sharp on 6pm (If there are no technical difficulties).
Please do not arrive before then, as we need time to prepare the channel -- If you do arrive before 5:30, you will be kicked.
Watching the Ceremony
The ceremony works like this:
During the award announcements, everyone in the channel will be de-voiced, meaning they will not be able to type anything into the channel.
The only people not devoiced will be two "bodyguards" (responsible for voicing and devoicing various winners and presenters), a "cameraman" (responsible for taking a log of the ceremony), and myself.
The awards will be announced by myself and a number of presenters. (These presenters will be randomly chosen -- I'll PM you and ask if you'd like to present an award, and if you don't want to just say no).
The bodyguards will then voice the presenter, who will announce the nominees and the winner.
Then, the bodyguards will voice the entire room, which will allow people time to applause -- after this, the bodyguards will devoice the room.
Then, the winner will be voiced and give an acceptance speech -- after this, he or she will be devoiced.
Tips
The reason for the voicing/devoicing is it gets very noisy when people talk during the ceremony - However, you can still treat #ags as an "audience room", where you can chat about the ceremony.
Also, it's usually a good idea to tile both the #ags and #agsawards windows -- This allows you to follow the action in both channels.
Please try and be supportive of all winners as much as you can -- The awards are voted by the entire community, and thus the winners are selected by the majority of he community.
Apart from that, have fun and enjoy the show!
- DG
Wooh!
So 6pm GMT means 10:00 am here in California (pacific time), right?
Cool, I'll be there. If I'm not mistaken it starts 8pm here in Finland (someone correct me if I'm wrong).
Yay, finally!
Bah, and I wanted to start a predictions thread after the nominations end. Well, so be it! I'll be there!
The day and hour couldn't have been better ;D
And don't forget to go into #agsawards where we can all chat during the awards and place bets on who's about to win.
I bet $100 on Apprentice.
;)
I'll be at work!!! :(
please stick this thread, otherwise I'll forget the whole stuff...
What time is that in Australia? I think it's like 4 am....
Yes, and if I suddenly say something like this...
<DGMacphee> And our next category is Best Animf45dx ghfg745
... that's my head hitting the keyboard.
I´ll be there with my tuxedo! And I´d be ready if DG needs me to announce some winner... 0:)
I tend to be loggin things.... :P But, if nothing comes up, which I'll try to avoid with all my abilites, I shall be there with a truckload of congratiulations for the winners :) And, ... I was going to say something more, but I forgot it........
Me and Big Brother will both be unavailable. The closest to that time I can be there is 8:30 GMT.
It might be over by that time.

What time is that in Australia? I think it's like 4 am....
I think it's actually 5am Australian Eastern Daylight Savings Time Sunday 1/2/04
(if you live in Melbourne like your profile says it will probably be 5am)
4am in QLD time
4.30am SA daylight savings time
3.30am NT time
2am Western standard time
That pretty much covers the times in Australia I think, I could be wrong.
At least it's on a weekend this year.
Congrats DG on getting it all together again and goodluck with the ceremony, I'll try to be there, but it is late (I know it's late for you too) but If I get home by 5am sunday morning I'll log in.
If you wanna know what time it is in your timezone, go here: http://wwp.greenwichmeantime.com/gmt-converter2.htm
I was waiting for someone to post that link.
So, for us Eastern Seaboarders on the USA coast, its 1pm the same day, I do believe.
jeez, 5am... and I'm at a 21st the night before... well, If I'm not blind and havn't passed out, I'll be sure to make it :-\
Actually, I'd better give my apologies now, I can't get up at 5am, even when I'm NOT hungover. :'(
Man... 5am. Its always the australians who get ripped off. (Well at least in the release dates of most stuff, and once again, the time for the AGS awards).
So i'll probably not be there... again.
Before you aussies start complaining too much, remember that DGMacphee himself is in Australia too, and is staying up until 5am to do the awards ceremony at a time more convenient to the overall forum audience. Now that's dedication!
