Did anyone actually read the rules?

Like the part where it says:

18. The P3N1S Award (Booby Prize)

Flashbax getting nominated for (quote) "The P3N1S Award - Awarded to the most uninspiring game/demo created with AGS. All nominations are welcome. Three (3) nominations will be selected, from which the AGS community will vote upon their LEAST favourite game".

This is idiotic.

Have any of you who nominated it thought about the amount of work this game required to make?

Edit: by the way, I don't really think this category should exist at all. I vote we should scrap it.

i think people are confusing the game with the creator

Post by: Vel on Mon 19/01/2004 19:59:48
Sorry Goldmund, A game like GayLula3D probably also required a lot of effort. I really disliked the "scene". Hence my nomination. If this category has been described as "worst game", I wouldn't have voted Flashbax, but to me is the least inspiring game I've played. IMO.
Edit: I would have voted for it even if the creator was CJ himself.

Even when this is the case, Erik, I don't really see sense in giving out the title of "the most uninspiring game".
This is where fun ends and resentment begins.
We should award the people who tried their hardest, not scold those who did "worst".

It's not like we are working for money and distributing shit only to get some bucks from kids. All people here are heroes in this sense.
(after the speech, goldmund quickly goes into his anti-pathos shower)

Was that the definition of that category last year? I remember nominating games that were intentionally "crap" last year at least.

Who cares if flashbax was voted for the crappy game award ....

i don`t................why should anyone else..

I noticed it was nominated elsewhere too....best animation

it would be great to win both  but i`m just glad that my creation moved enough people to be mentioned.....good or bad.

3795 downloads is what makes it worth while....
and inspires me to make more bigger and better games.

Anybody on this forum could get a ka-jillion downloads if they started up a big goofy attention grabbing argument about their game. Everybody just wanted to check it out to see if it was worth all the hub-bub. I'm my opinion, it wasn't.

Handbags ......

Get out the wrong side of the bed.

If its that easy you do it...........mister big stuff.

I await your attention grabbing release.

Your 8 games total 3773  d/loads.......
I did that with one game..
oh no i had a few more than that ...

Rabies is in the air this season.

Foz: Well I don't really care what is the fate of your product, especially as you have acidic foam in the corners of your mouth too often; I simply point out that - as Esseb wisely noticed - this category would make better job being reserved for games intentionally crappy, like the Andy Penis Slippery Treat one. Whereas it's sure that F.'s aim laid elsewhere.
I simply think that there's no need to officialy point out the worst games, which weren't such by intention of their maker.

I agree with Goldmund completely. There's really nothing useful about condemning a game by giving it, essentially, a Shit Award.  In all likelihood, it's not going to inspire the creator to do a better job, and it may have the effect of breeding resentment.

Acidic foam....?

Theres 2 ways to read my replies.......

most are intended to be tongue in cheek......

But i must admit if you look at them in a different manor they look like i`m very angry and bitter......

I don`t take anything seriously.......especially this......

Others seem to take everything far too literially..

..I agree with you that slating someones game as complete shit in the award sense is not needed.......

..I don`t mind if people think my games are shit....

I just make them for my own pleasure and hope that at least one person plays it an likes it.

We`re not earning a living so it do matter so much...

Ladies and gentlemen, please remain calm.

Allow me to explain.

I included the "P3nish Award" as a contrast to the other awards in some respects -- Like what the Golden Raspberry Awards are to the Oscars.

I admit, I haven't played FLASHBAX but I've heard equal amounts of positive and negative feedback about it.

And, although it is nominated for the "Booby Prize", please note that it has also been nominated for Best Animation (a fact that some people have overlooked).

This acts as a verification of such positive and negative feedback.

You can't please everyone all the time, and that's true for all games -- even some people nominated games like 5 Days a Stranger and Apprentice for the Booby Prize.

But the main thing is not to take all this seriously -- Just have fun with it.

I (as Andy Penis) remember winning the very first P3nisH Award for my game (or rather Andy's game) Andy Penis's Big Adventure!

And I don't feel any resentment -- I thought it was quite comical (and ironic that I should win the lowest accolade in my own awards ceremony -- let that be proof I don't rig it).

And keep in mind I was also nominated for anoither category (Best Scripting), which placed me in the same situation foz finds himself now.

And the next year I was also nominated for the Booby Prize (Tikkle-Me-Andy) and Best Demo (Dark Hero).

But in the end, why take the category seriously?

I never started the awards to be a serious thing -- It was kinda like a send-up of the oscars.

And keep in mind that there are two other releases up for the "Booby Prize" and no one has said ANYTHING about those two yet (Another fact some have overlooked).

I don't hear people saying "It's unfair that Smokin' Weed or Mika's Surreal Dream 2 is up for the award. Remember how Mika won Best Supporting Character in the first awards ceremony?"

You, see some people make absolutely crap games, yes (And keep in mind I'm not calling Flashbax crap because I haven't played it), and I think people should pay attention to this category to see the type of games (or even scenes from games) we should move away from.

However, I do think (from the sounds of some of the negative feedback) that the nominations for Flashbax's Booby Prize were also inspired by some bad publicity (i.e. the agrument) -- let this also be a lesson on how NOT to market a game.

But the only way we will find out is after the voting finishes -- Until then, everyone can only vote and bide their time.

I wish good luck to foz and all the other nominees.

May the best (or indeed worst) games win!

Foz I agree that Flashbax got so many downloads mainly because of two things:
1. The argument
2. The sex rating
I too am keen on many downloads and stuff, but Id never put some sex scenes just for "the downloads"(in commercial aspect, "the sales"). The download number of the game does not equal its quality - a superb game like Grr! Bearly sane has been downloaded only 175 times, for example.

last time I looked, "VPXT2" had only been downloaded 57 times compared to "Lazarus Wants Pants" 1458 times!

hence I'm pretty sure that the numbers don't neccessarily represent a measure of quality.

mind you, my game DID suffer from a total lack of pants... something for number 3 then!

I totally agree with DGMacphee on wht he said....its just fun it don`t matter....its not like its an oscar..or olympic gold medal.

I don`t mind as i stated....earlier.

I mentioned the d/loads as it has given me the inspiration to finish the prequel....which will enhance the first game and maybe tie up some loose ends......such as the black box.

I agree with vel for once grr!Bearly sane is a cracking game and got most of my votes in the awards i thought it deserved......its low d/load rate is cause its fairly new..

I'll need to play BoE, but I loved The Uncertainty Machine. I think that if it had a little bit of professional touches added to it (such as voice acting), it could make a good retail game.

I think flashbax was really good, if very vulgar. Still, I nominated for the P3N15 award because it was the only one that was worthy.
