Title: AGS DC++ HUB
Post by: n3tgraph on Sat 17/01/2004 21:57:03
Hey Lads,

I disgussed this with one or two members in #ags,
and we thought it might be handy to have our own DC++ channel, so we can share illegal rare software people have trouble with finding...

anyway
join in at:

213.93.124.148:1412  (somehow the port needs to be there to)

thou can download DC++ at Click (http://dcplusplus.sourceforge.net/index.php?page=download)

If you don't know what DC++ just ask someone in the channel, k? :)

greet n3t

There's only two people on the hub at the moment, where is everyone?

In the early stages of a new DC hub, there's never anybody there.  You'll just have to have a bit of patience while people cotton on and slowly seep in.

Presumably we'll be able to transfer AGS games on this hub?

Okay, I have DC++ installed. Anyone cares to explain to this computer-illiterate what to do next? ???

I like DC alot, but can you get a faster server? It's terribly slow and takes 10 seconds for a message to appear.

Post by: Inkoddi on Mon 19/01/2004 00:56:06
I think it's the distance that makes it so slow.
It would take atleast three hours for LGM to download a 100Mb file from me

Well.. Where is the server located? If it's in another country, I guess that's it

We should have two hubs. American Hub and European Hub

Hmmm apart from the message speed, isn't the downloading speed determined only by the connection between the downloader and the one he downloads from? I think once you get the file list from a reasonable fast (relative to you) user, you can have the downloads without much problems, so we just need more people coming and have their spaces shared (I'm not there yet). Moreover, for messaging stuffs we can always use other thingies like the IRC channel and whatever.

Didn't Chrille have something like this, only it was based upon his server rather than a peer to peer type thing?

Post by: Gilbert on Mon 19/01/2004 02:27:57
As far as I know, the direct connection hubs are different from Hotline (which Chrille used, but the AGS channel no longer exists), DC used file sharing among users (I think that's something like Kazaa, but i never used kazaa or edonkey, etc so I'm not sure), so you got p2p transfers while downloading/uploading files from/to other users.

So, in other words... yes.  ;D

I like Direct Connect Better. It's faster and more stable.

Well I started this little project, because we  I hear a lot of:

a: do you have this game?
b: YESH!
a: can you DCC it via mIRC?
b: I'll try :)
a: Wooohoo \o/
b: Damnit, my firewall won't let me send it
a: DANG! Maybe you can try e-mail?
b: No, dude, the zip file is much to big
a: Don't you have an FTP or something?
b: No, I don't even know what an FTP is
a: *sigh*
b: So now what?
a: nevermind :'(

on #ags....

So I thought this might be a usefull medium to share files we make for eachother, or who knows what for - sharing games perhaps :P

The server is located in Holland on a webserver of a friend of mine. I don't know if his connection has influence on down/uploads between members. If someone has some bright suggestions, don't refrain to tell

(is refrain a good word)??

Just so you know: The server port in the IP adress isn't needed anymore, it's even impossible to connect when it's still there. If you want to join the AGS hub, change the adress line to 213.93.124.148 please.

Well, I'm connected but there's only one other person there.  I'll just go ahead and leave it on, and hopefully more people will begin to join.

It seems to be working now... Hello everyone... ther doesnt seem to be many people on...
Title: Re:AGS DC++ HUB
Post by: Timosity on Sat 06/03/2004 14:44:18
I've never used this before, but I just tried it , I got logged into the chanel and all that, there were a couple of users there, but I couldn't see any of their files.

Is there a certain way to see files, I right clicked on the users and clicked 'get file list' it then says connecting, but always times out.

I'll try again later, but first, am I doing something wrong?
Title: Re:AGS DC++ HUB
Post by: Czar on Sun 07/03/2004 00:24:42
I usually just double click (yeah, it's a BIIG difference  :P), and if the timeout comes (maybe because i'm dowloading something else), it starts again, and then it works...
Title: Re:AGS DC++ HUB
Post by: Timosity on Sun 07/03/2004 07:46:48
Strange, it still times out all the time.

I have Zone alarm, but It still doesn't work if I turn it off (and I also allowed DC++ to use the internet)

Is there something in the settings you have to adjust, cause all I did was put a Nick in & connect to the server: 213.93.124.148

I see names on the right hand side with other info eg. How much the others are sharing. If I double click it , it says connecting & eventually timed out.

Is there a certain amount of data you have to share first or something, cause I'm sharing about 89MB, and I see others are sharing eg. 136GB (which is more than 3 times the size of my HD)

has anyone got any good stuff through this, and how fast is it (As fast as the 2 peoples connections?)
Title: Re:AGS DC++ HUB
Post by: Czar on Sun 07/03/2004 12:00:28
Well, about the sharing, dont worry, you dont have to share too much, I only share 6 GB, some games and music...
And yes, there are plenty of the good stuff from the admins (136GB).
Yesterday i downloaded some cool stuff from that guy Invicta...
Lets just say he is a Grim Fandango music fan ;)

And in the settings, i dont think you're doing anything wrong, but maybe you're missing something....
Title: Re:AGS DC++ HUB
Post by: Ishmael on Sun 07/03/2004 14:23:34
àf you are connected as "Passive" (needed if you have a firewall, I remember), you cannot fetch the filelist or download from other passive users (bricks on the icon)...
Title: Re:AGS DC++ HUB
Post by: Timosity on Sun 07/03/2004 14:30:21
It's working now, I tried logging onto some public hubs and they worked fine.

Then I tried again and there were only 2 users & I couldn't log onto them, then finally another user came by, and it worked.

I guess it only works for some users.

Still only 6KB/sec d/l, but at least it works.

edit:
Yeah, TK, I think you're right, I had changed from "active" to "passive" as well

Post by: Minimi on Sun 07/03/2004 16:59:45
Hey, I started joining DC++ right now, so I'm now also in there. I only have just a few things to share... like midis midlets, adventuregames... and some other stuff ...hmm... compared to the 20GB of others  :-\
Title: Re:AGS DC++ HUB
Post by: auhsor on Tue 09/03/2004 02:17:14
Yeah changing to passive helps with searching and connecting, tho it means you can't connect to everyone. Apparently if you use Zone Alarm, it messes things up and oyu can't go active, which is annoying, cos thats what I use.

i seeem to have some difficulties connecting, anyone else?

ATM me too...

Post by: TheDude on Thu 18/03/2004 23:02:03
I can connect nicely using 213.93.124.148 without the port number. I've selected "Active" and put my IP address in but i'm having trouble getting people's file list, passive doesn't do much either. There is about 12 people in here right now.

I have a router so i think i'll have to open some ports... anyone else have an SMC router that knows how to do this properly? Is it TCP or UDP?? Grr.

EDIT - OK, i've managed to open port 1050 on my router and i can access people's files now, wooh :).
