The fourth issue of the AGS ezine is now available for your pleasure
download the doc version here (http://www.2dadventure.com/ags/Ezine4.doc)
pdf version will soon be available. website will be updated as soon as necro is back.
Will someone please convert it to pdf?
Yeah... I won't even download that doc, because OpenOffice doesn't display it as it should be displayed. Pdf works better..
Once again, an excellent read. Am seriously looking forward to Goldlagoon now. The style of the game is just so wonderful. Simple, yet very, very good looking.
And, of course, how could I think this is a bad issue? Buccaneer got 94%! Wahey! ;)
AJA: here's the pdf.
Hobbes: it got 94% MAGS score, which isnt quite like the normal rating system.
AGS ezine issue 4 pdf (http://www.2dadventure.com/ags/Ezine4pdf.zip)
Yep, a good read, its good to know what games are being released, hopefully i will get to play them ^_^
Keep at it :)
Very good. I still want to see some art tutorials in these. I will be willing to do one if you would like... :)
Wow, I read this ezine for the first time, and with it also all ezine's before it, and I love it! Yay, I was in the ezine ;) I really really love it! ;D
Great issue Vel!
One little thing about the pdf version that annoys me is the "What should the ending be in an adventure game?"-heading. It appears isolated at the very bottom of page 8. It really ought to be moved down to the top of page 9.
Oh yeah, and "Shadowplay" is written in one word (I know, it really SHOULD be in two, but the title is one word). Nice to be mentioned though :)
Keep up the good work!
Thanks, Vel... I'll download it as soon as I get home.
Evil: Maybe sometime in the future
Minimi: thanks
GG: Okay, sorry for the mistake. Its just the spelling and grammar check that made me write it into two words.
AJA: hope you like it.
Another cool e-zine from Vel. It's good to have regular things like this that keep the major announcements, releases etc. documented. I don't necessarily know everything that's going on so it was a good read. The Buccaneer review was spot-on, it is a great example of a short but involving AGS game. Don't be too harsh on m0ds for missing his deadlines though! :)
Very interesting! I've enjoyed reading the issue. Great work! ;D
~Cheers
Yeah, thanks a bunch Vel.
What you wrote about me and "deadlines" just isn't poetry.
m0ds
its just not cricket either! :O
Go and log into irc vel. go on! GO ON!
:P
m0ds
Now I GOTTA read it just to see what was said..... :P
Heh, it was nothing but a joke. And it was true.
Can someone post comments about the endings article?
I enjoyed the endings article, although it was very brief. Especially regarding multiple endings. Also, maybe you could have elaborated a bit on the examples - without giving away too much, which is always a problem. If people haven't played or just don't remember the games, the examples weren't much help.
I hope you'll write some more about endings. I think it's a topic which would make for a great design theory discussion.
Not a bad Issue Vel, I still think you need to be a bit more subjective in your approach before it can really be taken seriously, but it is improving with each issue.
I was a bit annoyed at your flashbax review, even though it was only a review with an obvious biased opinion, I'm glad I judged it for myself before I read your review.
I'm also not sure what the point was with the endings article, it just sort of stated what type of endings you like. I guess it makes you think of ways you can end your game. (and you just had to use Flashbax as an example in there too, We get it Vel, You didn't like it (from level 2), which is fair enough but you shouldn't try to push your opinions onto other people)
Also, how do you come up with the percentages for the games, is that just your opinion too? (maybe a voting system is a better idea)
I'm not trying to bash the ezine, I know you put a lot of effort putting it together, but I think you just need to step back a little bit and try to be more subjective (I don't mind the mods jokes, casue I know where your coming from), only then will it become more readable.
Timosity, I will take your advice. I never did such a review before, but the second part of the game really pissed me off. There was much contrast between the two parts and I think that the second one is rushed out. Anyway, the score of a game consists of five categories - graphics, sound, plot, puzzles and misc.(like scripting and interface). This is why I gave flshbax 65% - neither component was perfect, but some were just dreadful in my opinion.
I really liked the endings article. I got to see other types of endings to games I am not so familiar with. For example, I've never played a Sierra adventure game, so those whole storylines are new to me. I liked the article, but I would not put in "see above" for an answer to a proposed field of endings... I would either reword it, or put it like
Ending Style 1 &
Ending Style 2:
And then mention any differences here
A small note to VEL.
I appologize for any aggro your getting regards flashbax .
Over the past few days you and myself have been on a rollercoaster ride of nothing but messages, posts and its seems that there is a split.
Theres a majority of people who love flashbax and hate your review.
And there is a majority of people who hate flashbax and agree with your review.
Just for the record.
I did`nt make the game the way it is because i wanted to shock and put people off.
It was an area i had`nt seen in the games kicking around and i grabbed the bull by the horns.
I just like to say it does`nt matter what anyone thinks about
FLASHBAX ...good or bad
AGSEZINE...good or bad
As we`ve established by now everythings go its pigeon hole.
So lets keep on doing what we do .
FOZ.
