Hi,
Wasn't 100% sure where this should be posted, so I hope here will do. Here goes:
I'm looking to create a game similar in style and gameplay to the original Super Famicom game 'Clock Tower'. For those of you not familiar with the game, it plays a lot like a simplified point 'n click adventure game (the player can only direct the character to walk left and right, not towards or away) with some survival horror elements mixed in (a creature will from time to time chase you, and you must hide from it until it gives up looking for you).
It seems that by default AGS is designed to handle Lucasarts and Sierra style adventure games, but does seem to have some pretty powerful scripting capabilities. So my question is, do you think AGS can be adapted for use in such a game?
For reference, here's a youtube video of some game footage: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rysffqxloso&feature=related
Everyone knows Clock Tower. In fact more than he does know Famicom.
And to answer.

Actually, I've never heard of Clock Tower (it looks good!).
To also answer, both of these have a left/right only mechanism:
Dacey in the Dark (http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/games.php?action=detail&id=1384)
Duty and Beyond (http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/games.php?action=detail&id=747)
Ah, well thank you both for your replies. So it's completely possible, excellent. In truth I had already begun writing my own engine in C++, but if I can switch over to AGS it should save me a considerable amount of time.
You might want to watch this video that explicitly compares Clock Tower to an existing AGS game (Deity): http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=0gAPN_ulBic
I have heard of Clock Tower but have never been fortunate enough to play it. I always wanted to :'(
Thanks for sharing that video FrancoFranchi, I'll be sure to watch.
And Snake, while the original may be hard to come by (it was only released in Japan, was later translated to English by Aeon Genesis) it does have a PS1 sequel that got a North American release, and would probably be easier to come by.
