Title: Annual MAGS Awards
Post by: Hobbes on Sun 28/09/2003 21:39:58
Hey,

Just a very small suggestion for the MAGS competition. Is it perhaps a cool idea to have one big vote at the end of each year, where all the monthly winners are pitted against each other for the prestigious Annual MAGS Award? Or the Yearly AGS Award? (AMAGS or YAGS...)

Would be a fun thing, I'd say.

Yeah, that does sound cool. We could call it, Yearly Automated Mags Show (Or YAMS ;) ) and have it on irc. Maybe a six month difference with teh AGS Awards. Then we could have something to look forward to. Yeah, we could even have best mags character and such, just remove them from the AGS Awards. :)

Yes! That would very cool. Maybee you should only take the winning entry's?

No, no, many games have great art and such but bad story line. Though we could have a "Best Winner" and "Best of the Non-Winners" or whatnot. Or maybe even 2 catagories. Winners and Non-Winners. This is all unfolding very well...

I don't like this idea.

The point of the MAGS games is that they all have a shared base of rules, and games from different months don't. Therefore, you just can't compare them properly.

Besides, MAGS game can take part in the AGS awards.

I still think that MAGS games should be eligible for the AGS Awards, mainly because it seems a little unfair to not include them.

I also agree with Barcik's notion of the "shared rules" concept making it difficult to compare them.

However, I see other no probs with this idea.

Its no different then comparing games that arnt in mags. I mean why would there be a problem comparing them? Never once have I seen a mags that said "Your artwork must be shitty" as a rule. Same goes for storyline. I see no problem with it.

I think we also need categories for "Best Worst MAGS Game", "Best MAGS Game Made in a Month With 30 Days", "Best MAGS Game With an Artichoke in It", "Best MAGS Game in Which the Artwork Must Be Shitty", and "Best MAGS Game Turned in Like Only Two Days Late I'm Serious I Just Need To Finish This One Last Puzzle"

Aren't they?

Evil, of course no rules will make a game worse, but what I mean is that the concept of MAGS is comparing games on the basis of the same rules. Without it, it's just like comparing any other two games.

They are -- I mean, we shouldn't remove them from the AGS Awards as Evil said.

Well, then that's where we can compare all MAGS games.

Well...I like this idea alot. But it might encourage people to start up a bunch of new award ceremonies and then the AGSAwards won't be special anymore.  :'( WEEP!  :'(

But the idea IS good, maybe it shouldn't be such a LARGE thing, though...
Perphaps we could just add another catergory to the AGS awards (More work for you, eh, DG).

Barcik: Yes but why dont we judge them just like any other game? The all are games. Like at the Music Awards, just becuase they have a best male group and best female group doesnt mean they cant have best group does it?

This sounds like a good idea, a very good idea, we could have topics, nominations and votes.

A good idea. Like comparing all the MAGS games of the past year, in categories, or all in one, ignoring that on which rules they were made by, just that which has best story, puzzles, jokes, etc. Not to judge after the difrences in artwork caused by rules. :)

I'm sorry for being the pain-in-the-ass, but I still fail to see the advantage of it. Can somehow please explain to me how is it any better than simply comparing all MAGS games to all other games in the AGS Awards?

Many people work hours among hours on a mags game to try to win. When they dont win they feel bad. These awards help make those people that just barely missed the line feel better. You know?

Many people work hours upon hours and lose in the AGS Awards. Why not create the same for them?

Besides, it is quite obvious that the winners of the 12 MAGS competitions will be the ones between whom the awards are dividided, not the losers.

Yes, that is true. But not many people keep their time limits on making there games, take m0ds for example :p. The mags games have to be done in a sertain amount of time or they cant enter. And as for the 12 winners winning, here is what I was thinking for awards...

- Best Winning Game
- Best Winning Game Graphics
- Best Winning Game Character
- Best Winning Game Co-Star
- Best Winning Game Use of Scripting
- Best Winning Game Plot
- Best Non-Winning Game
- Best Non-Winning Game Graphics
- Best Non-Winning Game Character
- Best Non-Winning Game Co-Star
- Best Non-Winning Game Use of Scripting
- Best Non-Winning Game Plot

This way, 'losers', if you may, can still win...
