i have ben trying to do somthing with the idea of using death as a character, i first needed to creat him wich i just couldn't do. luckely i found  a great cha. on the ron site.

any way i posted there aswell, and the story is sorta...

death comes back from a long holiday in spain only to find that there is no body dead.

you explore the area and discover that a evil docter (insert name) who is an expert in alchemy has discovered and mass produced the elixer of life.
now he is rolling in cash and you are out of buisness how does the reaper of souls make a living when there are no souls to reap?!?!?!

the player (death) has to destroy the evil dotors machine that alows him to produce and sell the elixer of life in cheap bottle form to the public.

i tried to get going on my own but i suck, my art work is poor.... so very poor, and i have no knolage of scripting ags, so im limited.

here is a zip file with a few pics the death char file and some songs i  thought you might would like,

im not some lazy shit who wants people to do stuff for me, but i could use some one to help touch my art work up prehaps help with some scripting tips and stuff...

i use geocities so if i give you a link thorugh a forum the page will be disabled but the address (if you just copy and paste) is

{http://www.geocities.com/citznew/death_game.ZIP}

(dont copy paste the {} signs those just stop it form becomeing a link)

sory for being patronizing,, its just im stupid so i know from life expirience there may be others out there like me so i take precautions

so um yeh if any one can help i would b gratefull....anybody..

cheers....buddle

Isn't alchemy the attempt to turn a base metal into gold?

Hey there, your graphics aren't that bad, the skull is very amusing indeed, and I think you can make a great game with this style. As for scripting, it just takes practice, most of it is really simple, and there is always the forums for when you encounter problems. I'm new to scripting too but I got used to it very quickly.

I didn't take a look at the .cha file cause I don't have AGS installed right now (oh no! now i must die! :P).

Good luck with this game, sounds like a fun plot :) Btw, very ncie tunes ;)

P.S. Yeah alchemy is mostly about that but I believe it also has something to do with the philosophers stone and the elixir of life. I think I read about it somewhere.

A good thing to do with this game would be to reserach it a lot and make the puzzles involve death learning how to stop this elixir of life. OR you could have a second ending where death makes himself lots of gold using alchemy and lets people continue living.. :P Just some silly random suggestions.

yeh alchemist's were very long ago, (has any one ever played shadow of a memory?)
they thought that a red gem called the philosiphers stone would be the anser and was vital to being able to creat the elixer of life,

i am as of present working on the reserch, but um the back grounds i have in mind, i sketch during school and they are,
airport, just as a very short screen at the start..
deaths living room,
the under world,
the lift from the under world to the reral world,
then a screen of town,
and a sorta monkey island map veiw with a different charecter veiw which have the evil doctors layer, which is only uncovered when you visit the news agents (located on the map) and read about the creator of the elixor, then, there's.
alchamist garden,
then his house,
then after tim you descover a door to his basment,
then the basment and a close up of the machine,
(the machines in the bassment,) then from that using objects acumulated in the town u can destroy his machine and get some payback at the same time,
is that to much for a shortish game?,
and any ideas for puzzles that could be included?

Ginny

Yeah, I've played the demo of shadow of memories/destiny/whatever. There isn't anything about alchemy in the demo, but I read that it has many things to do with the philosophers stone.

Anyway, the game doesn't have to be shortish, it's up to you, that sounds like a good list of backgrounds. Puzzles could include some technical/scientific work with the elixir machine/alchemy thing.

Just try thinking of the plot in detail and then create obstacles for the player, then think of solutions fitting the context.

P.S. No mean to hijack thread but I keep wondering if there isn't a better/more original way to make puzzles, rather than thinking of obstacles.

I like the idea. So I thought I'll give a try to make one of listed rooms...
Uh... I was going to try to give this ariplane pic a little nudge, but failed. miserably.  I can't mess anyone else's artwork. So I redid whole picture from scratch...

This was original:

And this was my recreation:

I'd be glad to join/help, but I think doing artwork together will cause very messy outcome.
And that'll lead to a messy game.

DragonRose

*Professor DragonRose puts on glasses and mortarboard and begins to lecture*

The study of Alchemy, which predates the 12th century and is influenced by Kabalistic, Arabic and Christian cultures (though in Christianity it eventually became anathema), was both a physical and a spiritual quest to turn what is base into what is pure through the use of a substance called "The Philosopher's Stone." The most common depiction of this is the transformation of lead into gold.  However, the Philosopher's Stone could also create an elixer called "The Elixer of Life" which would transform the mortal (base) into the immortal (pure).  Originally thought to be a magical process, it evolved into a scientific process and became the antecendant to modern chemistry.

I really like the idea for your game, debudding.  I hope you finish it!  PM me if you need any help with research!

This is all in Harry Potter too!

Course people in the US wouldn't know about that since they changed it to the "Sorcerer's Stone".

oh if you want a death charactor with real well.. charator try looking up the death of discworld on google or something. or talk to someone who reads discworld. he is a very good charactor to start with if you are stuck on design.

oh and this sounds a bit like grim fandango. tell me why would this doctor be evil or mad if he wants to make everybody live, not die or bend to his will or do his bidding? does he want to take over the world, or overpopulate it? this is a great idea for a sub plot, the potion makes everybody zombies or something there not living or dead just in the middle.

You mean something...

like that?

Yeah, I can already imagine elevator guard standing there and saying to a nun:

"I'm terribly sorry, miss - but your free pass to heaven appears to be fake. You're going to hell. Next, please!"

:D

debudding

LMAO... HA HA HA that rocks, im not a fan of nun's so it can help my self asteem, what do they look like if they are in 256 coulor because i prefer that because then they are smoother when i play them on my comp... iits a bit crap you see, so a hi-coulor game slows it down abit. but im not to botherd,

Layabout

Nicholas Flamel (sp?) was teh man who supposedly created the philosophers stone many years ago. THere are also rumours that he is still alive and in india...

JKRowling used real 'history' as a base for the first HP book.

And yes i read the harry potter books so whats it to you?!!?

At this low resolution, slowdown is minor. If even my ancient P-I 75Mhz will pull it, so It's damn sure everone else's cpu's will. And - I cannot draw in 256. It's too difficult, even if that sounds like a paradox.
Never understood correct palette handling - never will.

dragon_king

I suggest try out a game called Grim Fandango cause that would be right up your alley. If memory serves me correct I think it was made by Lucas Arts.
