Any Decent AGS Monkey Island Fangames?

Since joining this lovely little community last year, I've been surprised at the lack of Monkey Island fangames. I'd have thought that there would be hundreds. There are a fair few indiana Jones games, a remake of Maniac Mansion and a sequel to Zak McCracken, so I did think it a bit odd that no one had tackled the Lucasarts biggy. Is it a legal thing? I have turned up one or two little ones but  they weren't that good. There's one in the Development section in the style of CMI that looks good, but the rest is silence.

Any ideas?

Maybe people actually want to make their self-invisioned personal games?

There are also a few Maniac Mansion fangames. Some of them are really good.
Unfortunately there are only 7 out of over 50 episodes translated into Englsih cause it's originally a German series.

But I'm hopeful more games will be translated soon!

Well, obviously, but that wasn't the question...I'm not saying that there SHOULD be, I'm just surprised that there aren't. I'm just a huge MI fan and wondered if anyone had produced a worthy fangame, that's all.

I should think MI is still a bit scary for the common man to try and experience with. People tend to expect quite a lot from a MI game, even if it was a fangame. Dunno, but it might be that. And then the concept is a bit harder to develop, It think MM and ZMC have easier plotlines to follow within the limits. A new monkey island game could be anything, and it might even have to have new bgs and new ideas. I don't really know, but you did ask us to speculate.

i agree with tuomas, its a very tough thing to make a fangame to something as awsome as MI

Sam.

Many people start MI fan games, and either realise they are rubbish or don't release them. Unless well done then the community, in my experience, reacts badly to MI fangames or fangames of any other kind.
Bye bye thankyou I love you.

Heh, the first project I tried was a monkey island game set between 2 and 3 way back with dos ags.  Good thing it destroyed itself in a crash ;)

this game is looking to be quite good, and very true to the series it seems!

Chicky, that looks amazing. I'm really looking forward to playing that and pretending it came out in 1988 on the C64. Any idea when it'll see light of day?

Monkey Island fan-games are notorious for being shut-down. It's such a game-specific franchise which made its name as a point & click that LucasArts are likely to strike. Plus, it's almost as if they're constantly trying to design & make a new one, yet it takes ages for it to happen. And then they turn out to be 3D & poop anyway.

"They are definitely going to make Monkey Island 5 since it is their most popular franchise. However, we shouldn't expect it in the near future."

Saying that though, now that MI has moved to 3D, point & click fan-games may stand a chance. But not many people have tried in recent years. At least, not in complete forms that I know of. I doubt Chicky will have any kind of problem. Farlander had one in the works, its quality was rivaling LucasArts. Had he made a website for it he could have suffered problems. You just never know. It'd be good for someone to try again to see what happens :P

M:I2 LeChuck's Revenge, by Chris Ushko.

One of the finest experiences ever commited to binary. Essentially a parody and remake of MI2, it was also a vehicle for movie references, musical monatges and gallons of hilarious.

The site is currently down, I'll see if I can find a mirror.
Ah! There is no emoticon for what I'm feeling!

There have been two high profile Monkey Island fan games, one of which had excellent hand-drawn animation and colourful background art with one of the best soundtracks ever produced. The other was a bit of a boring mess of rendered art and uninspired writing.

Any links? Or were they slappped with a "Cease and Desist"?
