i am looking for a good game with good speech
if anyone could list a few that would be cool THX
*Points at the Secrets link in his banner* ;D
My game tales of Chickenry has good speech, but I don't think I did that well on the actual game.
also there is
.Ben Jordan case 1 deluxe
.Kings Quest I II and III
.Quest to Zoolo
That's about all I can think of.
also the game Lif and the treasure of the Tanones that I am making should come out soon including voice acting.
What about Apprentice I Deluxe? I think it had voice acting, and not a bad one, too.
No, the voice acting was kind of annoying in that game. Except for Lord Ironcrow.
Don't forget the Blackwell Legacy game.
I turned the speech off in the Blackwell Legacy demo. I couldn't stand it. But it had speech, nonetheless.
Let's see.... The Farm episode 1 had decent acting. The game itself could still be good without it. I haven't played it, but I've heard the Adventures Of Fatman had good acting too (if you could find the talkie version somewhere on the internet).

Click the Fatman icon in my signature and scroll down that page a little. I've updated the link.
Is that the full CD version?
Did you even look at the page? You'll see a 213mb file and a 24mb one, so yes, I'd assume one of those is the full cd version.
:)
hmm, the iso download dont work :(.
Peder.
Yeah, I've looked all over, but the only full ISO that I can find leads to the same link on that page. Darn..

Thanks Rui. :)
Thanks Rui :P.
Thanks Rui. :P :P
Frankly, I can't say I've ever heard impressive voice acting in an amateur adventure game. It's a really difficult thing to pull off well, and bad voice acting often totally wrecks the atmosphere for me. Thankfully you can always turn it off.
If we go commercial, Larry 7 has probably the best voice acting I've ever heard in an adventure game. Absolutely hilarious stuff.
If commercial games are included, I'll have to nominate Grim Fandango. I'm by no means a rabid Grim Fandango fan, but that title really has the best voice acting I've ever heard in a video game. Ben from Full Throttle is also nice.

I second that. Even at the professional level, I'm almost always incredibly turned off the voice acting.
Digitized speech is way over rated if you ask me. The files take up a lot of disk space and can never be as appealing as what the player thinks they should ideally sound like. Instead I suggest that when you play a game that you imagine all the dialogue being spoken by your favorite people or characters. For the game creators if you want a character to sound a certain way then describe how they would sound or name an actor that sounds like what you think the chracter should sound like. It's a lot easier and cheaper to tell the player that a character has the voice of Anthony Hopkins or Groucho Marx or Marge Simpson than to actualy get those people (or even an imitator) to provide voice samples for your game.
I think it breathes more life into the characters.
I certainly wouldn't have gave Manny (Grim Fandango, thats his name right?) that accent if I was just reading his speech!
Also, there's no chance of you miscontruing the emotion in what was said. As many have said,
it's hard to detect sarcasm in pure text.

I played it and see why you turn it off.
I never knew when Simon the sorcerer was being sarcastic or not until i found the one with voice acting. I thought he liked the owl.
Sherlock Holmes The Awakened
Best I have heard so far in a game.

The Awakened has good voice acting but absolutely nothing else of value. You were warned.
Well to imply emotions you could have something like:
Guybrush: (Sarcastic) Well, that certainly accomplished alot!
Larry: (Flirtatios) Hey, baby, what's your sign?
Faith: (Annoyed) Exit! Try using it!
If you want to have a character with a truly unique voice than including one or two audio samples of that character are ok. On a rare occasion there may be a game with high quility voice acting where the player is impressed and thinks the voice fits the character dead on. Just make sure there is an option to include captions, If a player is deaf then a game that only has digital speech without any text can be very frustrating.
