Title: Are there any good freeware point & click Adventure games that aren't AGS made?
Post by: Fleshstalker on Tue 17/04/2007 03:50:32
I got a couple:

Out of Order
Nathan's Second Chance

Are there any others out there that I should look into?

Peasant's Quest is good. Enclosure I found rather disappointing myself in terms of the story.

There's quite a large AGI game builder community, which is good if you don't mind EGA graphics. Hank's Quest (Victim of Society) is very nice. Residence 48 is also qutie good.

There is also a free online episodic flash adventure game (that was a lot of adjectives :-) ). It's called Something amiss, you can find it in this address: http://www.somethingamiss.com/

Enjoy.

There also other games from the lassie engine used by Something Amiss,
John Green's Nearly Departed http://www.gmacwill.com/lassie/files/games/nd_win.zip (demo)
Also some very good flash adventures at http://pinheadgames.com
Nick Bounty: A Case of the Crabs
Tales of the Odd: Brain Hotel
Nick Bounty: The Goat in the Grey Fedora

and my 2 feeble game based on  6 Day Assassin  ::) built with Lassie

This isn't a game as such, but I found AGS but it's not AGS! It's called TWIGZ, though its main application is "Roomedit.exe"... lol! Basically it's a point & click "engine" for QBasic.

I didn't notice Beneath a Steel Sky or Flight of the Amazon Queen named.

http://www.scummvm.org/downloads.php

Download ScummVM to play the games, the game downloads are close to the bottom of the screen.

There is also another Adventure Game Engine called "Wintermute", but I've never downloaded it or checked out its community...

Probably because they weren't originally freeware.

Somebody already mentioned TGTTPOACS (http://gertrude.deirdrakiai.com/), so I'll add Cubert Badbone (http://cubert.deirdrakiai.com/), by the same author.

Now that I think of it, there is also The Dead Case (http://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/173654), a nice little gem of originality with a great story, which I recommand to anyone who loved Bestowers of Eternity and The Blackwell Legacy.

Also Johnny Rocketfingers 2 (http://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/310635), Gateway II (http://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/372340) and Chronon (http://www.eyezmaze.com/chronon/v0/index.html)

Pretty good game. I wonder if they stopped production of their next game since the copyright on the site is 2002 and some of the links don't work, like the forum link.

It was Multimedia Fusion for TNB. His older games like Fate of Monkey Island were TGF. If I remember right it seems like Broomie (Who ran those forums) Made me a moderator right before they stopped working... But it was so short lived I dont really remember if that happened or if it was just something we talked about one time.

That also reminds me, him and I were going to work on a game.... I wonder if he is still down.

Edit: By the way if you can find a copy of Fate of MI 2 It is a great one.

The King's Quest 9 demo, or should I say 'The silver Lining' is quite impressive, if not cruelly short. Potential. Very big massive potential. 3D yes, but very familiar.

What Makes You Tick? (http://lassie.gmacwill.com/) the lastest from the Lassie camp, by Matthias Kempke

I recently played "What makes you tick?" and I liked it a lot. You can download it here:
http://lassie.gmacwill.com/lower.php?section=games&page=titles&game=wmyt

I also downloaded "Flight of the Amazon Queen", but I haven't finished it yet. I think it's fun, too. You can find it here:

I agree that What Makes You Tick is a very nice game: great graphics and story and a COOL ending! The puzzles are easy and make sense (thank God).
Regarding the WinterMute Engine (http://dead-code.org/home/index.php/games/), it has some interesting games. I liked The Dead City, The White Chamber was different and 5 Magic Amulets was OK, too.
An old game is King'w Quest 2:Romancing the Stones (http://www.download-free-games.com/freeware_games/kings_quest2.htm)
And one of my favorite games ever: Atlantzone (in french and in english). It is a fantastic game.

@KittenInPyjamas
Atlantzone is one of the best games ever! Ever!

There is also a series of games that I love (they are not downloadable, but you can save anytime): Super Sneaky Spy Guy from http://melting-mindz.com (there are already 14 games).

There is a serie of internet point & click games called "submachinegun" that is pretty fun.

In Abandonia you can find a game called "Callahas Crosstime Saloon" that is also pretty good
