Is anyone interested in a space-based adventure

I'm thinking about producing a space-based (Sci-Fi) adventure game, using the same basic principals as Space Quest did, without being a knockoff. Basically I want something similar but original.

This game will be freeware, and should be standard (Sierra) game length. I'm planning 320x200x256 for the graphics, AGS of course and MIDI for the music.

Would anyone be interested in playing such a game?

Hello? There's dozens of games like this... and may of them are quite popular, like Rob Blanc series or Space Quest itsself! Just remember that making a game about future/space gives you unlimited amount of fantasy you can use - so don't cross this limit ;) or your game would be just stupid and not diehard sci-fi.

MrColossal

so all we know from this post is the game will be set in space and use ags and be low res

of course someone would want to play an AGS game, people play them all the time

please be more specific, if you told me you were planning on doing a sequel to Armaggedon where the earth is attacked by another asteroid that will destroy everything then i will tell you know i have no desire to play that game

but since we know nothing at all about this game you plan on making everyone who posts after this i'm sure would agree:

make whatever game you want, we love games here and we love new games, we will play anything as long as it's well made and it seems that the author took their time, if you are interested in making it we are interested in playing it

good luck,
eric

I, for one, will REFUSE to play your game just so I'm not part of the game-loving crowd.  ;D

NSA - I'm a huge fan of the Space Quest genre ... so best of luck on the endeavor!  I'm also glad to see that you posted in the right forum!

Having said that, I'll give you some (friendly) advice:

I've learned (the hard way) to wait until you have something substantial done for a game before posting anything about it.  I know the excitement of starting a new project can be overwhelming and you just want to share ... but after you've been here awhile and you see all the started games, and rarely finished, you'll understand!!

That advice isn't pointed at this post ... as this was just an idea post, I just wanted to impart that wisdom on you (as I've done to other new members in the past) so you don't make the same mistakes most of us made

Welcome to the community and I hope to see some good stuff from you!

PS - Migs:  That was funny.

if it has an original plot, and it's fun, then go for it. Just make sure you plan ahead before you dive in.

How about something along the lines of "Starcross", or "Planetfall"/"Stationfall"?
Stuart "Sslaxx" Moore.

You could check out rode's games. They're awesome, and space quest like.

Thanks for your opinions and advice guys, that's all I wanted. I don't want to go in too deep about the details of the game since it's easier to work on something without people asking "Is it done yet?" Also, you don't have to go through the trouble of posting those "We still haven't got anything to update, but we're still alive" posts on your game's website. ;)

Truth be told, I've been a forum-goer for along time now, and I hate it when people post in teh wrong forums, I didn't realize that's such a big problem here, and that I'd get so many brownie points for it. ;)

I'm glad to hear you're a Space Quest fan such as myself. I'd like it if you'd stop by The Subspace Channel and check us out. I've been a long time member of that crowd and you might need some time to adjust, we're quite the bunch of loonies. But it's worth it, if you can handle the madness.

As for starting new projects... I've been working on the game for some time, and have all the important bits sorted out, I was just worrying about the shift from Sci-Fi to Medievil entertainment that the world is experiencing. I am going to finish it, I live by the Peter Q. Taggart saying that goes: "Never give up, never surrender!"

Well, that's about it, Thanks again guys for your help, I'll make sure you guys are the first to knwo when the game is released.

Would that be Peter Quincy Taggert, the Commander of the NSEA Protector?

"Set it on screen saver 2!"

Thanks for the link.  I'll check it out!

Good luck with your game and if you need beta testers just let me know!!
