Title: Aventure-spiele dans other languages
Post by: Goldmund on Sun 25/01/2004 02:09:15
Okay, so I've been trying to catch up with my French and German recently, and I thought: hey, what better way to do this than playing your favourite genre of computer games? This is the way I've learnt my basics of English, anyway!

So, here goes a plea. It is easy to filter once you know a language well, but when you'll still learning... well, let's just say that "jeux aventure" on google only increased my inventory of Gator cookies.

Do you know any good links to (good) abandonware or independent games in languages other than English?

The new adventures of Zak McKracken has initially been created in German, although there are plenty of translations available by now. You can get it on http://www25.brinkster.com/lucasfangames/.

Hey, thanks a lot! There are enough to keep me occupied for a long time.
"What are you doing, Blazej? Playing games again, old fart?"
"Hey, Ich lerne!"

So far, I think the phrases I will know best will be:
"Es funktionert nicht"
and
"Je pense que cela ne fonctionera pas."

French is to me a pain in the back, because my teacher back at highschool never learned us anything. We always watched Asterix&Obelix movies and we were singing songs in class with his guitar... *oooh the good old days!*. But fact is I only know some words like
Je m' apelle Peter, and things like oui, and cuisine... and madame....eun deux trois quattre... and I dont know anything more.

Ich spreche deutsch nicht so gut.... but I can do it better than french :) Well... I'll just stick to dutch and english... hehe :) Good luck with your languages Goldmund.

Au revoir, Auf Wiederzehn, Tot ziens, Goodbye!

Thanks Dorcan, for that site. I have to polish my French as well, so it might come in handy.

By the way LucasFan - There's one screenshot of the French version of Zak2 on your site, where "If this bed could talk.." is translated with "Si le lit pouvait parler...".
Shouldn't it be "Si le lit pourrait parler..."?
French-Freak, anyone?  :)

Ah yes, I mixed it up.

Strange, it looked so terribly wrong when I first saw it, but of course you're right.

Now let's see... "Si le lit était un homme, il pourrait parler." Doesn't make sense, but should be correct, right?  ;)

Yeah !  ;D That's correct !
I also think that if my bed was a man, he could talk.
Too bad I'm not as good in english as your are in french  ;)

Non-English AGS games certainly don't get enough recognition (as LucasFan mentioned).  I wish there was a better way to handle this.  Would anyone be interested in mass-translating German AGS games into English? (heh)
