Title: Beneath a Steel sky
Post by: Steel Drummer on Fri 24/02/2006 23:31:58
Hey just a casual comment: someone should make a BASS II game with AGS. I couldn't though because the backgrounds would be too hard.  :P

BASS2 is already in developement, or was atleast. Maybe BS4 put it on hold.

Oui, no point in us making it when it's already being made by the company who made the first. None the less, more BASS games are definitely needed!!

Yes, leave sequels to the minds that made the original so good in the first place.  If you want to make sequels, make an original game first.

-And that's the bottom line, cause Stone Cold says so.

Blah at you, i can't remember if there has been an announcement saying it's on hold or declaring it's status but BS4 is coming first.

from the revolution chat regarding BASS2 - 2nd feb -
Quotethe news is... we're about to renew the domainÃ,  That, sadly, is about as far as it goes.

a case of getting the facts before you lecture us, zoot?

I got excited about BASS2 a few years ago when AdventureGamers first suggested it may come to exist. Now, I will be surprised if it is ever made.

But also, very, very happy.  :)

Cool, I figured it seem to leave a hanging chad for an ending.   Though I hope they make it a little darker and grittier, I mean don't get me wrong I love the game, but I wonder if it was rightly put in the Cyberpunk Genre on Home of the Underdogs.

But yeah, that would be cool. I'll need to get a new computer to play it though

i actually really hope it doesn't get made, it'll never live up to the original.
the hand drawn comic backgrounds is one of the many things that makes BASS a great game, with today's technology they could do higher resolution 2D backgrounds and more comic styled characters, or even do it like Grim Fandango, but it will more than likely be fully 3D and the game wouldn't suit it.

Yeah, when I downloaded the game some time ago I did it only because of it's genre, and I was terribly dissapointed. I was expecting something like 1984- a dark, metallic, reppressive world. And I get a Tatooine-like golden city where the character and his companion won't stop telling bad jokes and trying to be funny.

There was a 1984 game? Or do you mean like the book?

Beneath a steel sky is my fav. Adventure game ever!
I was actually making a B.A.S.S. 2 game with AGS, but I decided not to, cause of lots of reasons.

Only reason I was making it was cause I wanted Revolution to make a sequel.
I would think they should keep the old fashion way, not make it 3D or what ever!
In my mind it will ruin the game, but thats only my thought.

Cause I would really love to see a sequel in the old style way!

the got a website, but its blank:)..

I think you should continue with that project, since apparently they aren't going to make that game (and if they do, it will be 3d, most people nowadays think 2d adventure games suck). If you want to resume the project, I'd be more than happy to help you with it. If you're not going to work on it anymore, can you send me everything you had done on the game so I can continue where you left off?

it's not that people think they suck, it's the publishers thinking they won't sell.

How about they self publish? Other game makers have made stuff and sold downloads off the internet.

Revolution is a company, not a couple of guys in their basement. (Okay, sometimes you can be both (http://www.introversion.co.uk/). But not Revolution.)

Revolution could quite easily publish their own game, but they could also quite easily re-use the BS3 engine to make a sub-standard BaSS game (which i actually hope will be a prequel if it's made) and get somebody else to publish it for them?

edit: this actually reminds me of something, wasn't juncmodule working on a game using the LYNC Space sprite of Foster WITH Revolution's permission?

Keptosh II used modified BASS sprites with approval IIRC.

I am pretty sure that plans -had- been for it to be a prequel.
