In you're opinion whats the best ags game you've seen here? And if possible give a link to its download
Pleurghburg: Dark Ages and King's Quest II+ VGA are commonly regarded as the best AGS games. They're both definately must-plays. There are links to them on the right hand side of http://www.agsforums.com
Thanks for the quick reply
i guess it depends on what you want. those two have the best sotry. for a laugh, try larry vales, or PD.
well if we go by most downloaded game on the AGS webpage then....

In my opinion the best AGS games of all time (in no particular order) are Pleurghburgh, Larry Vales and King's Quest 2 VGA

hehe, yeah, look at that. Not bad for a "game" with one room, a couple of pixel-hunts and a plot that simply is not there.
Not that I am jealous. In fact, I wouldn't even want that many downloads. I wouldn't want that grading either. I don't crave popularity, attention or feedback in any way.
Oh, btw, the best game is Aaron's Epic Journey.
The best game is Dark Hero, and it hasn't even been released yet!
That's how good it is!
Don't take my word for it, just listen to these people.
"This is the game I wrote AGS for!" - Chris Jones (after one too many beers)
"This... game... me... like... fantastic... puppy... firetruck..." - Mods (Actually, he was probably talking about something else)
"This game is great and I'm going to nuke Iraq!" - George W. Bush
"I love this game and especially love the self-referencing humour of the author!" - DGMacphee
Anything on this page is high-quality and "Best AGS Game of All Time" worthy.

King's Quest 2 VGA???? Best AGS game EVER?????
I'll be scratching my head over that one for a long time.
Yes! KQ2 VGA is the best AGS game EVER!
What's with pleurghburg anyway? yes, I kinda enjoyed it, but Best AGS GAME EVER?
The best one has to be The Trials of Odysseus Kent. Not just for the great animations and graphics, but the jokes are hilarious and the overall feeling is great.
Either that or Pleurghburg: Dark Ages. PDA has more plot and character development than most games counter together, only the puzzles are sometimes a bit illogigal.
Personally, I think the best one is King's Quest 2 VGA, it feels totally professional, has a great story and some very neat puzzles. I don't even like most Sierra games that much and I thought this one was superb.
Close runners-up are Pleurghburg, obviously, and Odysseus Kent - say what you will about Yahtzee, but this is definitely his finest hour and I think one of the jewels of the AGS crown.
Pleurghburg: Dark Ages
Independent adventure as it should be.
I strooooooooooongly disagree about Pleurghburg puzzles. I finished the game without help, so that means the puzzles are completely logical. And the game is great.
But the greatest AGS game has to be one of the least famous ones - it's called 6 Day Blah Blah Vampire Goold, written by yours truly. Check it out on the hour games forum.
No, wait, that's NOT the best AGS game ever, you see, I was only joking... oh, shut up!
I hate to sound like a broken record, but...

Lgm, thats not the page with the best ags game at all...I think it's actaully that andy penis kids homepage...
search for the don!
but ESCAPE will be even better!
Haven't played them all - obviously - but my favourite at the moment is the short adventure by Rodekill, the one with the little demon and the seriously disturbed boy in a bugsuit. Er ... can't remember the name ... made me cry with laughter. :)
For some reason I don't care too much for short games. Maybe because I play games for the story and the characters, and there just isn't enough time for development in most short games. I mean, sure 6 Day Assassin is pretty and fun, for about five minutes, but I fail to see why it's so popular. I mean, most game demos have more content than that! The same thing with Search for the Don. It had tons of style and atmosphere, but there just wasn't much game to it.
So my favorites are among the longer games. I think that KQ2VGA is probably the most professional looking/playing AGS game to date. But although the enhancements from the original (plot- and puzzlewise) are amazing, it still is very derivative, not just of KQ2 but of the whole KQ series. For some reason these remakes, as well as other "fan games" just don't interest me as much as original concepts do.
P:DA was highly derivative as well. Elements from Gabriel Knight, the Police Quest-series, Rise of the Dragon, and the Manhunter games are easily spotted. But although some ideas were rather clichéd, the blocky graphics gave the game so much charm. If I should point out one flaw, it would be that the naive graphics at times clashed with the dark subject matter. So currently, P:DA is my favorite AGS game with The Uncertainty Machine being a close second (if it wasn't for that final puzzle...).
I think KQ2VGA is a better game, but it leaves me cold. I feel much stronger about P:DA and TUM. Maybe KQ2VGA is just TOO professional (or maybe I'm just jealous at Tierra :)).
Actaully, I mostly agree with GarageGothic.
Yeah, Pleurghburg: Dark Ages is the best in my opinion. I imagine there's a lot of coding behind it. It had a unique vibe to it that I really liked. The graphics were functional, rather than artsy, but the point was the story and the playability. It had its faults, though, that are mentioned. At least it 'feels' complete and professional. Anyway, if you didnt like the graphix of Pleurghburg, check out the graphics for the new Pleurghburg (http://w1.319.telia.com/%7Eu31919289/pbdevshot3.jpg). That game's surely can kill everything else.
Don't get me wrong. Read my post again. I totally agree that the game had a unique vibe, BECAUSE of the graphics (and music). What I said was that graphics and story sometimes worked in opposite directions, but maybe that was intentional. I thought the game had a wonderful, almost childish joy to it, and I don't mean that in a bad way. It was like a 10 year old kid's dream of being a policeman (having a friend who makes cool gadgets for you and all that, as opposed to the "adult" universe of say Rise of the Dragon.)
Yep, GarageGothic pretty much has it there. Pleurghburg: Dark Ages, The Uncertainty Machine have a exciting, GK/Broken Sword-feeling to them, and Odysseus Kent, Night Of The Hermit and Larry Vales 2 are the comedy favourites.
And I'm pretty sure that Byzantine will add to that list when it's finished... God, I'm looking forward to that game! *pokes at DarkStalkey* ;D

Hmm, never thought of it like that. If that was intentional, then Chrille is more of a genius than I initially thought. It was chrille who made it right?
I think it is difficult and unfair to name one game as the best. Lists can provide better opinions, but thats what it will come down to in the end, opinion. A lot of work and effort is put into the games with little or no thanks (apart from the awards) The awards arent really a fair way of judging the best, they are affected by popularity and opinion. The best way of judging could be seeing what game has most rooms, best scripting etc
All my opinion though
Custard, I agree. But then, I also think it's unfair that 6 Day Assassin is the top game on the AGS website just because it's a smaller download than some of the better games.
And so what if it's a matter of opinion? Isn't that what matters, what the audience thinks of a game? As opposed to the sales of the commercial market (which isn't a measure of quality but of clever advertising), reviews and forums like these tell you what people really think. And for the life of me, I can't see how the number of rooms can be a measure of quality.
The best way to find out which game is the best is to play them all by yourself and choose.

Perhaps not quality, but a number of rooms can be better than a game with 1 room in one way or another, I guess it should be amount rooms with a consistent high quality makes a better game IMO

Hmm, yes, so if I want to find out whioch is the best movie of all time, you suggest I should take years out of my life to watch them all? ???
Doing that would take a lot of time, id say the best thing to do is to listen to recommendations from friends with similar interests to you

Thats a thought. There's probably a game out there that a certain audience would really like but coz it hasnt got the hype and recommendation that games like P:DA and Kings Quest have from the majority, they'll never find out about it. It might have been a favourite game to someone.
When are the next awards any way?
jan. I think.
I liked pleurghburg, because it had loads of options, rather than jou just having to do it a single way. I haven't played Kings Quests, but they look quite good.
You have to have played the original Sierra King's Quest II to appreciate just how good Tierra's enhancement is...

That's not exactly what I mean. I mean play games, and choose the best for youself.

The BEST AGS GAME EVER is Run Hot 2: More running...
Turn on your sound and watch the trailer Run Hot 2: Running Hotter (http://xn--dydo-5habb35acc.youaremyfriend.com/)
Maybe a moderator should lock this, because it's just turned into a "my game is the greatest" thing...
This thread reminds me of lots of the threads on the HotU board.
"What is your favourite strategy game?"
- This thread will end up listing every strategy game ever made.
"What is your favourite action game?"
- This thread will end up listing every action game ever made.
"Did you ever play a strategy game you just COULDN'T stop playing?"
- This thread will end up listing every strategy game ever made.
"What is THE game you would bring to a deserted island?"
- This thread will end up listing every game ever made.
In conclusion, asking people what the best so and so is, is usually not very productive.

You're just pissed because no one mentioned the dog kennel!!1
So what IS your favourite strategy game? (j/k) ;D
The greatest AGS game of all time is of course my extremly great first attempt
* Fireworks and massive neon sign lights up.
Drunk Fred in The Cell!
RLBAT and Guerra.
Yeah, I think this thread has run its course.
Favourite game various from person to person obviously, depending on what sort of thing you like. There are the obvious contenders, and then the less obvious ones which are still held in very high regard.
In conclusion, look at winners of the AGS Awards and try the past Picks of the Month, but just play things for yourself and make up your own mind.
