I had a parallyzing thought a few moments ago that I had to share. My blood ran cold and my heart fluttered.
I realized that after 3 years of development, my new game is about ready to be released...
But so is the new Blackwell game, as is the final Ben Jordan (both of which I will, or course, be playing).
I was hoping to stand a small glimmer of a chance at an AGS award this year. Well, better luck next time :) I hear 2015 is going to be a good year!

I dunno. Gemini Rue had some pretty big flaws. I think Blackwell might beat it in certain categories.
Any chance for the new McCarthy Chronicles this year, Calin? It would be 3 (or more) different Chronicles competing against each other then.

I think you should be more thankful that so far, Ben304 has only really released 1 game this year, and while it was awesome (mostly for featuring me), I don't think he'll have the sort of ownage of the awards he had the last two years :P.
Just three more months to go! At the most, he could make....12 more games :P.

If SLX get The Journey Down HD out before the end of the year, maybe it can take all prizes again this year.
Call me a genre conservative or a graphics whore, but even with their flaws, TJD and GR are my favorite adventure games in years. So yeah, it's a tough field to beat even before Blackwell and BJ.

As for Gemini Rue, compared to all other AGS games, it's definitely the most professional. And awards, people. My favorite AGS game of all time, didn't get an award. So yeah. ;)

The probability of a new McCarthy would depend on whether or not i decide to actually make video games anymore ^_^ It's been like 18 months since my last one.
Expect more plugins though! Maybe there should be an award for those.
This is assuming I remember to add Blackwell Deception to the AGS database. I've forgotten to do that with the last few games I released. :x

The relaunch of my old game have been get totally low profile in the AGS games in production... Just everybody talking about the new (sure GREAT) Blackwells... Aix... xD
I too have practically finished writing 'AGS Footballer 3D Ultimate Revenge', but I am not gonna publish it due to Gemini Rue... So I'm delaying release to December 2012, hoping for a year with poor games only...
I hope none of you seriously laments releasing a game because of the AGS Awards. Frankly, the AGS awards are just a bit of fluff and you should be more interested in getting your game out there -- especially to other sites on the internet -- than worrying about it.
Games are always going to have their fanboy followings, regardless, but you'll never develop one if you don't get your game out to people and get them playing it.

The awards themselves don't really mean a thing to me.
What means something is that I'm personally proud of my work and the awards just represent that other people enjoy my games. Also, the awards encourage loads of people to download and play your game which is the best part of the whole event, imo.
That's all I care about.

The lifetime achievement award is pretty random based on the panel members I've talked to over the years (I've been asked to be one a couple of times now). I don't really see the point of the award since (in my opnion at least) my games have only gotten better since then, so it's kind of like giving Obama a Nobel Prize 10 days into office before he actually did anything to earn it..not that he ever has...

P.S. - I realize I received the award partly for helping people as the CL mod but I don't really consider that to be worthy of an award, I just do it because someone needed to and I like to help out and, at least in the past, had more free time to offer to the forums.

That sounds like an excellent reason for a lifetime achievement award to me. I think that award isn't mainly about making games, but "for great service to the AGS community." That can be offering help on the CL, technical forums or in hints and tips, as a mod, making modules, maintaining archives and other resources, blogging about AGS, or many other ways.
And while I don't think it's a bad thing for game makers to hope for an award, I hope no one takes it so seriously that it affects what they're making or the release schedule.
