Title: BRITTENS 05 NEW DETAILS
Post by: on Tue 10/05/2005 12:48:22
PLEASE SEE MY LATEST POSTS FOR LATEST NEWS.
CAMPING DETAILS ON PAGE 6.

Now is your chance to sign up to Brittens, the smaller spur of Mittens - your one and only chance to meet other AGS users, game developers and of course Chris Jones!

This year Brittens will be held near Staines, in "the usual" camping site. Details will be sent to those who sign up. All are welcome and I'm sure the majority of people will have tentage. There will of course be the big tent for storage and rainy days/nights - thats my only fear about the start of july ;p The age limit has been raised too, after consideration - to 17+.

The dates for Brittens is FRIDAY 1st JULY to MONDAY 4th JULY with MITTENS being held, in theory, sometime in mid-late August.

If you wish to attend Brittens, you will need to answer the following questions and EMAIL or PM them to me. If you PM me PLEASE include your EMAIL address otherwise you'll be left out!!

I need to know;

- Your forum nickname
- Your real name
- Where you're coming from (and how, i.e. car, plane, train - and to which destination)
- If you own a tent
- Whether a) 1st - 4th July or b) above dates are best for you

Email me on mark@barnettcollege.com

I would prefer to be emailed rather than PM'd, please.

Don't delay, sign up now! Staying Fri, Sat and Sun night will cost no more than just over £10, there is also a £10 for food fee, too.

:)

CURRENTLY CONFIRMED;
- m0ds

Gilberfest rekindled my interest in another British meeting, so I'll go too.

I think my body would rebel and make me die if I ever missed an AGS meeting. I'll be there.

By the way, scotch, on the Mega Bus site (going to London though, we'd have to get a train/bus from there to Staines), it's only £4.50 return for the furthest-away date they have (which is the end of June). Maybe if we booked tickets uber-early we'd get them for under a fiver...
Title: Re: SIGN UP for BRITTENS 05
Post by: scotch on Tue 10/05/2005 14:19:54
Oh and I'd prefer the earlier dates personally, because they're sooner.

As soon as I find out if Petteri is coming, (and that is, if he is), I'll be booking part of his luggage and a slot for my name in the Brittens attendants(sp) list :)

(And if you don't get that, consult one of the links in my signature... I'll lose myself somewhere along the way unless I have a pair of eyes (and a brain) with me...)
Title: Re: SIGN UP for BRITTENS 05
Post by: AGA on Tue 10/05/2005 14:27:50
Okay, there's a train with one change from Victoria station to Staines. Should be about £10 return, I think. The site wouldn't let me "book" this early though, so I couldn't get a definite price.
Title: Re: SIGN UP for BRITTENS 05
Post by: Meowster on Tue 10/05/2005 15:42:54
Okay, so my flights would be from Waterford to Luton this time (never again Dublin Airport, never again). One is flying out on the Friday, at 2:50 PM, and the other returns from Luton at 5:15 PM on Monday. Gilberteers will notice the emphasism on PM.

Since I don't know where Luton is, or how far the Brittens site is from there, or what time everybody is expected to meet up, are these times okay? Or will people more than likely stay around longer?

Ooh! I might get the financing for that. The more finns that go, the better it would be. I need to find out what salary I get in my summerjob, which will be before that date.

It's less than 40 miles from Luton airport to Staines (nearest big town to the campsite, where everyone travels to before going on to the campsite). It'll take under an hour on a coach, although you may need to change a couple of times.

Dave - last day of sign up = Thu 30th June

Yuf - i can pick you up from Luton, and 3 other travellers too. Aim to be in Luton about midday on Friday?

Then I can pick up other people from Staines bus station afterwards.

(only one person can call shotgun... Shotgun 2 would mean either you or Yufster would be driving)

I'm in!

Also, if I win the lottery before Brittens is held, I'll fly in everyone for free with my personal helicopter.

Oh and uh, I guess the 1st-4th July would be the better dates for me.
Title: Re: SIGN UP for BRITTENS 05
Post by: Meowster on Tue 10/05/2005 20:15:10
Since he is picking us up, that would suggest Mark is driving.

And I can't drive anyway.

So 'Shotgun 2' means nothing.

Except that you don't know what 'Shotgun' is.

<Hotspot> but but but!
<Yutzster> I'VE SEEN MARK'S CAR BEFORE, THOUGH
<@Al_Ninio> YES BUT NOT WHEN YOU CALLED IT

Ohhh yes!

On a different note, I would love to come, but Mittens is main priority, and would be much cheaper for me.
Title: Re: SIGN UP for BRITTENS 05
Post by: on Wed 11/05/2005 18:39:48
And even moreso you don't need to shotgun something that's already been offered to you!! :P
Title: Re: SIGN UP for BRITTENS 05
Post by: Meowster on Wed 11/05/2005 19:45:11
Even though I lied about having seen Mark's car before

And although I wildly claimed to get car sick and other such nonsense

And despite not being able to call shotgun until I see it

I still get the front seat

Because Mark said so

and it's his car

so what he

says,

goes.

(LimpingFish wonders if Staines has a Hilton...with a major price discount.)

F**K it!

I'm in. And I second strazers' question. Where is Staines?

Great news everybody, we've arranged a trip to Thorpe Park, so everybody will take a five mile walk to Thorpe Park, go on rides, get drunk, go on rides whilst drunk, get more drunk, and then take a romantic five-mile evening stroll whilst drunk, in the dark, back to the campsite.

Who's up for Thorpe Park!?

I haven't been to a Brittens or a Mittens before, but I have been to the Gilbofest, last weekend.  It owned.
No.
It Pwned.

I'd suggest visiting the IRC room #ags for a while, to get to know the attendees first, tho.
It makes the actual meeting far more exciting.

For example, I met the Godfather of Adventure Games, Ron Gilbert, but I was far more stoked about meeting the other AGSers.  When CJ arrived, I almost soiled myself.

What the hell, I'm in. Looking forward to meeting you guys, too.
I was nominated for best n00b, but lost out to strazer - no dishonour there, only a little surprise, as I hadn't realised how 'new' a member he was.

Quote from: MeAlso - which dates have been settled on?
Nevermind, re-read the first post. 1st - 4th would've been my preference anyway.

See you in July. (And #ags before then, probably)

Title: Re: SIGN UP for BRITTENS 05
Post by: Meowster on Fri 13/05/2005 15:31:26

I'll look after the newbies, don't worry :)

The answer to staying cool is to be around me.

Or to wear summery clothes.

Like Iqu, I was excited to meet other AGSers and when I think of Gilbertfest, I think more of the AGS'ers I met than I do of Ron.

Weird.

There is no point in being shy as you have paid for your flights so it would be pointless to get there and say nothing.

Still got college. Im 17. They makes us go back to do A2 prep, and I thought it be safe to tread carefully. Im in the process of complaining because they have an appearance rule where you can't  have your hair below your collar. Eve though my hair wasnt below my collar i was asked to get it cut and refused to do so until he refused to let me sit my as exams until it was done. So i gotta keep outta trouble, meaning no skipping that monday 4th july, unless I wann through my hopes of going to A2 next year down the pan.

I guess this will be the most international brittens. Just a note. I'm going. Apparantly I have no choice. CJ told me so when i met him.I just want to meet dave gilbert anyway. There had better be a Karaoke bar near the campsite...

My trip to Brittens = less than 200â,¬ alltogether
A trip to Mittens = well over 200â,¬ for a ticket, plus the age-restriction of 18

There better not be.  I'll drag everyone there every night!

In any case, I'm up for the longer stay.  It's hard to justify flying all the way to the UK just for a weekend in any case.

Me and my girlfriend will definitely come, and maybe some friends.
Does anyone know how much the bus ride from airport Stansted to the campsite is? Or much is bus riding in the UK in general?

Girlfriend, cool, maybe.

But can't you only bring friends if they're AGS folk?

We don't want a load of Non-AGSers showing up.

Unless they're girls.

And you can't even bring them if they don't like games.

Fact.

You'll have to check up with M0ds to see if they can come.

As for the cost of buses and whatnot, last time I paid for a bus in the UK was from London to Stansted, and it cost 8 pounds.

Thanks, 8 pounds is ok.

I can certainly understand that, but I thought since it's a campsite it would be ok. We were planning on staying a few days longer and visit London. We would be 4 people altogether (including another girl ;)).

m0ds?

I guess at Stansted you'd be meeting up with Hajo, another German who also flies in to there, then AGA and I will find you at London Victoria bus station (Stansted to Victoria bus was £15, return, £8 single, which isn't very cheap for a bus but nothing in central London is), we can lead you to the train station from there... I'm not sure how much the train from Victoria to Staines will be yet, probably less than the bus, then from Staines we need to take a local bus out to Laleham where the camp site is, which won't cost a lot.  So... not a particularly straightforward journey, but between us we've done it all before.

As for bringing people along... well with the people you plan to take we're over 25 altogether, approaching twice the size of a normal AGS meeting... it was a concern before but with three extra people, who none of us know, it's getting a bit much.  This is definately going to be a different kind of AGS meeting, I hope it works out.

Indeed. All the previous AGS meets have had 10-15 people and this looks like it could be much bigger than that. There's no reason why it can't work out, but I imagine it'll work quite differently from those in the past.

It's also worth mentioning that at previous gatherings people haven't brought girlfriends/boyfriends/outside friends. One of the great things about Brittens/Mittens is that nobody knows each other, and yet at the same time everyone does know each other through the forums.

Here's the craic!

(7) m0ds (England)
(7) Yufster (Ireland)

(7) AGA (Wales)
(7) Scotch (Wales)
(Tuesday) Hotspot (England)

(?) Layabout (Australia, sort of)
(?) Hajo (Germany)
(?) SSH (Scotland)
(?) DarkStalkey (England)
(4) ShatteredSponge (England)
(7) Strazer + 4 random people (Germany) (2 females)

27 People!!! so far, perhaps I'm missing a few? I don't know who are confirmed and who's not, but this is a rough idea of who's coming and for how long. I assume most long distance travellers will be staying the seven days to make the best of Brittens. If all these guys come, that'll be people from Australia (sort of), Holland, Germany, America, Ireland and Finland as well as the UK. Woo! Not to mention three vegetarians, three girls and a few newbies.

The people with (7) by their names are the people who are, or are probably staying for 7 days. I think Hotspot is only coming down for the Tuesday (don't know if you're staying down after that, 'Spot) and I have no idea of the people who are only staying four days.

Talk about Variety! Am I missing anybody?

Holy crow.  What I'll do for a free flight.

I have enough mileage to cover a free flight to the UK, but only on Delta or one of its affiliates.  The only flight available is one that travels from NYC to TEXAS, then a 5 hour layover, then a 9 hour flight to London Gatwick.

I am on the waitlist for a few more reasonable flights, but despite the hassle I am willing to do it for a free ride.

However, the flight arrives at 11am on the 30th, one whole day before Brittens begins.  Is there a kind London soul who can take me in for the day/night?  I'll be jetlagged and dishevelled so I'll be sure to provide some amusement.

A lift would be GREATLY appreciated. It's my first time aborad, and airports confuse me, as do buses. And everything else too, really. I arrive 23:30 at London Stansted (STN) if I travel the first of July. However. I could leave the 30th too. It would arrive at the same time, but cost 20â,¬ more. What do you suggest, and would I get a ride? If I fit in the trunk. Otherwise I'll walk.

Will do Adam, ta.

Okay, the latest NEED TO KNOW INFORMATION on Brittens!!

The campsite is BOOKED for FRI 1st - 4th JULY.

HOWEVER, they have alloted us "5 NIGHTS", so we can effectivley stay until Tuesday, which can also be EXTENDED if we decide and they agree to it.

The price per person is £5 per night (this is a one pound increase from previous years, but I'm told it's their FIRST price increase since 1997, which is when Screen 7 was founded, so thats all good!! :P)

So if you stay 1st - 4th it will cost you £15 to camp.
So if you stay 1st - 5th it will cost you £20 to camp.
So if you stay 1st - 6th it will cost you £25 to camp.

They have been told that up to 20 people will attend and they are making allowance for us to have 10-15 tents.

When you arrive, if that is before me - tell them my surname and they will place you in the right area. The booking is under "Lovegrove" and although the lady on the phone recognised the name, she didn't remember the name "Brittens" :P So that won't get you in!

A map of the location of the campsite is available here (http://www.multimap.com/map/browse.cgi?pc=TW181SH&cat=gc&scale=200000itle=Laleham+Park+Camping+Site) :)

If you WANT to come and haven't signed up but think you are able, please DO still email me. It may be negotiable.

If anyone drops out I'll let you know here in this thread, but if they don't, perhaps I'll see the rest of you in Greece? :D

guy lines are pieces of string/rope that go from the tent into the ground that, i guess hold the tent there, and straighten the top waterproof layer ¬¬

i should have a 3 man tent with me, while it is official 3 man, i think if it was needed, you could get 4 people in there, i also have a double airbed for comfort :p

i might have one of those one man tent thingies also, but we could use that for bags / food / whatver

I suggest you bring at least the following, Ishmael;

- Sleeping bag
- Hygiene accessories, i.e. toothbrush + paste, flannel, towel, soap, shower gel etc
- Eating implements, plate, knife + fork, tea towel
- At least *A* change of clothes :P
- A CUP of some sort, preferably blue ;)
- Spending money
- In case of RAIN; Spare shoes, waterproof coat
- In case of HEAT; Sun-cream, shades (mine, dave, please :P)
- Phonecard, ET phone home - etc?

Not essential but I and others may love you if you bring;
- Artwork/portfolios etc for your up coming projects
- A demo of your up coming project (I'm sure someone will have a laptop)
- Something to keep you entertained/distracted. I for example, have Yufster, you for example, could bring a GBA.Ã,  :P
- Notepad, pens... People often leave these events wanting to make a game. So best jot down all those crazy ideas!!

ANYONE travelling from within the UK, I would be very greatful if you could bring
a deck-chair or three. We have 22 people to sit, I only have 5 deck-chairs, and
one of those is Matt Goble's :P I have three crappy stool things too. If you can
bring your own, even if its a magical mystical folding chair, that'd be great.

Hope that helps. I can't think of anything else, if you can - say!

Creed, I am happy to take advantage of your camping supplies.  The less I have to drag from NYC the better!  I can get my hands on a sleeping bag, but lugging a tent is another matter.  Whatever you have available, I will be mucho thankful for.

Unless I manage to get on a different flight,  I will arrive at 7am on Thursday at Gatwick airport.  Is that too early to head over to the campsite?  Or should I hole up at a London hotel for the day/night?

This is turning into quite the trip!  I'm very much looking forward to it.  It'll be a new experience for me because I'm a city boy who has never gone camping a day in his life.  Many hilarious antics will ensue, I'm sure.

I would just like to announce that I fully intend to infringe on the privacy of one of those attendees who plans on bringing a multi-person tent, as frankly I am far too cheap to buy one of my own, unless absolutely necessary. So if anyone wouldn't mind giving up a me-sized section of nylon, please feel free to speak up.

Also, I shall be the first to sheepishly confess that a deck-chair just isn't happening.Ã,  Partly because of the way I'll be travelling, but principally due to laziness, I don't want to be lumbered with any piece of luggage which can't be conveniently squeezed into a rucksack.Ã,  Do not fret, however; imposition upon another for this convenience shall not be necessary; my MacGyver-esque levels of ingenuity have caused me to craft a fiendish plan involving folding up my sleeping bag into a make-shift cushion, and sitting cross-legged upon the floor.Ã,  As well as being a more compact solution for posterior support, this method shall also place my head at a convenient crotch-level to everyone else.

And as I'm on a roll, anyone else likely to be heading down to London before ending up in Staines?Ã,  If so, perhaps we could meet up, and become confused and lost together!Ã,  Once again, speak up if this proposition sounds attractive to you.

Didn't we have good weather when some of us went up to London - I remember buying Ice Cream in Hyde Park with Pessi, Magintz, Chris, Scummbuddy?

Nametags people, we need Nametags!

Seems like I'll have to copypaste Sponge's plan... Unless there are chairs and whatnot to spare...

Apparently I'd be coming on the 1st (might be the day before, but I lean more towards this day), around 11:30 PM... and I wouldn't like to walk from Stansted... ;)

Oooh, I love the game with the stickers on the heads.

If the Poundlands down south have a similar stock in to what they get up North, they're selling collapsable chair for a quid a shot (obviously). If there's a poundland in staines, that may well be ideal for the chairless.

Like I said before, I'll have a big tent which all are welcome to crash in, and can bring along a small one if anyones shy.

Don't know if I'll be getting the coach down, or just staying in the south for a week after Glastonbury yet. If I get the coach down, I'll be landing in London. Either way, I'll probably be trying to get there a day or so early.

How many people will be staying the week after? I've booked the time off work, but don't want to be stranded in Staines all alone. That would be awful.

I should definatly be at Brittens now, just gotta work out my journey. The last time I did the trip it took me about 12 hours... I plan to do it in a third of the time this time around. The tent I have claims to be a two-man tent but it's rather too, er, cozy for two non-lovers to share - sorry!

I'd better make sure I have all the bits and pieces to it and didn't leave anything important im Cornwall now I come to think about it. I hate tents and I hate camping but it looks like I'm going to do it twice this year!

I'll make sure I'll bring the areobee too (like a regular Frizbee but goes further and is easier to get stuck up a tree), and maybe a trailer or some stuff on the game we're working on.

OK, I went to Alton Towers Theme Park today and got some vouchers we can use at thorpe park.

I got 7 £8 off vouchers and 2 £5 off vouchers. I'm gonna use an £8 off voucher myself so that leaves 6 to share between everyone else.

Not sure how to do this but probably do it based on picking names out of a hat or something or whoever needs it the most. We'll decide some time when we are there if we still decide to do it.

EDIT: If anyone can bring a guitar that would be great, I'm off to go try to buy a tent today, if not then I'll be bringing my old tent that is know to leak in heavy rain, but fine against the smaller rain drops.

I also have one chair for myself which I kept from reading festival. Might look for another, more comfortable one, and of course as usual I'll have my cool-box for someone to sit on :P

I imagine Brittens will start at about midday/early afternoon as people arrive, which is why it is a bit of a shame if people's flights don't get in until late at night, because you effectively miss the first day.

Arriving at the campsite anytime after mid-day, Friday, is best. I hope to be there from about mid-day.

I'll put up signs if necessary, but anyone who decides to get a bus directly to LALEHAM from STAINES can use this simple yet effective map to find the campsite. :P

Right.
I've told my dad that I going, and asked to borrow stuff.  I'm on for one tent, either two or three man (i forget which, but it's purple and green) and when he's got used to the idea, I'll work on getting the second of the pair.
I've have one chair, I'll see what I can do for rustling up some more.  I'm not making any promises on this front, tho.

I may be able to rustle up 2 extra chairs, and by the looks of things I might possibly be able to borrow my brothers tent which is like 4 people with a huge roof and like 2 rooms. It's reasonably big, but It's more tall than anythig else.

Will report back when my brother remains consciousness from getting drunk.

You'll have to ask CJ on that one, Ishmael. I'm going from Stansted to Staines with Yufster, Miez and SHH I think, and then I can take people from Staines - Laleham, but I can't go via any other airports really, sorry.

Apart from the local bus part (Staines - Laleham), the UK location (Laleham) was carefully selected because it has good access from London Heathrow. From Gatwick, you will probably have to get a bus or train into London, then travel from London Victoria - Staines by train, where you can then be picked up anytime after about 1/2pm.

That's a pity. Ok, well I'll probably come down to brittens at about mid day on Friday so strazer I can give you a lift from Stansted on my way (unless you want to go via London and do some sightseeing, totally up to you). I can then pop back up to pick up Ishmael and Haddas at 23:30 since they don't have a choice in the matter and I wouldn't want you to try and find your way around public transport in the middle of the night.

So yes I can pick you up from the airport, however I am leaving Brittens on Monday 4th, so I cannot give anyone who stays longer than that a lift back to the airport.

OK About my tent, it's fairly big. It's got a sleeping area and a living area. The sleeping area sleeps 4 comfortable, and the living area could sleep another 4 if needed, or we can use it to shove stuff and socialise should weather be crap.

So if people need sleeping space just bring a sleeping bag and anything else you require such as pillows.

I'm assuming people will have bags which we will have to store in the living area, so please no more than 6 people tops including me in this tent.

Anywhere you sleep it's gauranteed to leak!

I plan to bring my large 6 man tent but we'll have to see,
if I'm picking up three people from the airport I'm not sure
the little dinky car will cope. I'll see how this tent
situation progresses.

I have a three men tent, which can comfortably sleep
2, so anyone is welcome to share space with me.

Though I must warn you, the tent is in tatters, but
luckily has an outersheet that stops rain getting in.

3 Spaces Remaining

The tent is divided into 2 areas so if there are any females who need tent space don't feel off put at all, we males can have one room and the females can have the other area. If noone else signs up then we can have 2 in one area and 2 in the other :D making plenty of room for all!

Adam, as far as I'm aware the only person I'm picking up now is MIEZ from LUTON AIRPORT around 11am ish. That means we'll arrive at Brittens about 1.30, so as long as you give me a call sometime after that on my mobile, yes, I'll be able to pick you up :)

I can do lifts for anyone that day but you will have to call my mobile! I've left you a PM with my number. :)

I am arriving in London at about two-three o-clock on the 30th, then making my way to Laleham. Anyone else arriving that day? Anything I could pick up in town and take to the campsite for people in advance?

I'll arrive on July 1st in the afternoon and leave on July 6th.

I'll be flying to heathrow, and since I know the way to Layeham so well, I'll take the bus this time.

I could use some directions. Arriving London Victoria coach station, and I can get myself from there to Staines railway station easy enough, so if you could just give me the next leg, that'd be great, thanks.

Okay, when you get to Staines Station, you will need to use the footbridge to cross to the 'Main' side of the station.  In the google map below, the station would be in the bottom right corner, either side of the railway line between "Gresham Road" and "Station Approach".  Station approach isn't a looping road but a car park (I'm guessing the google map team think this is the route around the car par  ;D).

http://maps.google.com/maps?q=staines&ll=51.433384,-0.507195&spn=0.004916,0.010664&hl=en

When you cross over you want to take a left and head up "Station Path", until the footpath comes to a T-junction.  Take a left which should take you under the railway.  Go straight across the car park in front of you, and you will be heading towards the Elmsleigh Shopping Centre.

Here's an annotated version!

(http://img15.imagevenue.com/loc158/th_ecc_to_mittens.jpg) (http://img15.imagevenue.com/img.php?loc=loc158&image=ecc_to_mittens.jpg)

Cross the road, and you should see the bus station.  You need the one outside BHS. The Bus is 218 and runs I believe twice an hour:

http://www.pindar.com/SCC/pages/tt/timetables/218.PDF

You need to get off at the Church, in Laleham Village.  Walk around the corner to the corner-shop, opposite a pub and you should see signs for the campsite.  If not, walk towards the river via "Ferry Lane", and the campsite is 5-10 mins walk along the road by the river. On the map below, the campsite has been incorporated into 'Laleham Park'.

http://maps.google.com/maps?q=laleham+park&ll=51.400330,-0.492668&sll=51.409727,-0.492668&spn=0.018929,0.042658&sspn=0.018925,0.042658&hl=en

Hope that all makes sense!

You'll have to go into the entrance at the far end, where you will see signs for reception. Go there, pay and the kind old lady will point you in the right direction to the campsite. Remember to use the name Lovegrove, I doubt she'll be familiar with m0ds :P

Ok, so Brittens is this coming Friday ... that's in 5 days time, people!

Can I just confirm then, as far as I am aware I am now just picking up two people from Stansted:
strazer, flight arrives 9:25, will aim to pick you up about 10:00 to allow time for baggage reclaim etc
Haddas, flight arrives 23:30, will aim to pick you up about midnight to allow time for baggage reclaim etc

If I've made any mistakes here or forgotten anyone, speak now or forever wait at the airport!

1. Yes, I shall be bringing at least one tent.  If there's a shortage, I'll see about swiping a second.  Also, Asda are selling them for £20 for 2/3 berths.  I'm happy to contribute to that if necessary.
2. It's either a two or a three man tent.  Assume it's a two man to be prudent.
3. Yes, I shall be seated.
4. At least one, since I'm not vehicular, I'm not going to promise anymore.  I'll see how heavy everything is, first.  Yes, I'm lazy.  The chairs that I could swipe are £5 each, and are odd.  You slouch like a worn armchair, and your ass is as low as your ankles.  It's also useless at neck support.
5. I haven't a clue when I'll be there.  Probly once either the beer has kicked in, or the hangover has worn off.  Depending on my mood it could be first thing Friday morning, it could be late Thursday night, it could be when the rest of the London to Staines trainees arrive.  Who knows?
6. I'm an alcoholic vegetarian.  I'm also allergic to seafood, aspirin and penicillin.  The allergies shouldn't be an issue, tho, since they're not things I would eat in the first place.  I don't care much for mushrooms, and I have a phobia of breakfast cereals.  Nuts taste like ass.
7. I'm in for the whole nine yards.  Or seven days.  Or one week.  Or whatever.

And Scotch.  Yes, you're there for 7.

I will not be bringing a tent, but I will be bringing two lovely Tesco Value deckchairs, guaranteed to last for no more than 2 hours before collapsing into a pile of disintegrated fabric.

Judging by past years, we've always had plenty of tents and not enough deckchairs, so I might try and grab a couple more if it looks like we're going to be short.

I was going to bring a big toblerone bar, but then I ate it all myself. Oops.

I shall be arriving with strazer from the airport, probably at about mid-day on Friday.

I plan to stay until Monday, but that date can be adjusted earlier depending on whether I like you all or not.  :=

4. How many chairs - At least one via M0Ds, hopefully a few more.
5. Estimated time of arrival (optional) - Midmorning-ish?
6. Any special eating requirements (vegetarian, vegan, allergies etc...) - might be helpful to know - None, but I hate fish!
7. Nights staying - 2 (Friday, Saturday) back home Sunday evening for work Monday  :(

Neat, well I'll take down your food perefences when we're there... I also ask you to consider what kind of things you like to eat especially if you're a vegitarrean! I suppose we could all buy our own food, but that would get a bit tricky.

There will of course be a BBQ and many sausages (and veggie sausages) on the go on evening #1. For other days/nights DON'T FORGET A PLATE AND CUTTLERY! :p

I will also buy a 3 man tent, and *hopefully* bring my big 6 man tent thing for rainy days... Chris is right, chairs are ESSENTIAL so if you can but can't be arsed, please be arsed!!

For anyone who is still looking for tents, Argos do some cheap ones and Tesco, for the same price of 39.99 do a tent starter pack, which includes a 3 man tent, 2 sleeping bags, 2 ground mats AND a padlock :p

My count so far is:

Tent Spaceage Total: 16
Chair Totalage: 14
Vegatarians: 5

Although I haven't heard from Yufster, SSH or ShatteredSponge.

There will be 20 of us needing tents and chairs, which means we fall short some, but I have only included everyone's minimum space, so we might be able to squeeze some people in, and I haven't included m0ds' big 6 person tent either.

I think at the moment chairs are more of an issue.

It's not looking good for chairs at this end - M0Ds has one of mine, and we only seem to have 2 others in the garage, which I'm guessing 'the folks' may need at the weekend.

Where's a cheap place to buy folding chairs?

Aha! Argos:

http://tinyurl.com/asvsj

£2.49 each, I might try and reserve 4 to pick up Friday morning.

Ps: excuse any mistakes, I'm having a conversation with Magintz over MSN at the same time, and well I'm slow and old!

Another Update:

Staines Argos doesn't have any in stock, but I've found some near work I might try and get tomorrow.

Update 2 (or 3...)

Argos seemed to have sold out of the really cheap chairs everywhere, but I noticed today that Woolworths have folding garden chairs in lime green and bright orange for £4.99 each.  They were quite heavy to carry on the tube back from work today (yay rain!), so hopefully I can pick some up on Friday morning.

If the weather is bad over the weekend, I'll pick up a cinema timetable - I believe War of the Worlds is out.

Whoop. Just got back from Glastonbury, and have about thirty hours before I set off Brittenswards. Life is hectic, but interesting.

1. If you are bringing a tent - Yep, I can bring a big one that'll sleep between 2-4, depending on how close people are willing to sleep to each other, and I've got a one man tent that's light enough for me to carry.
3. If you are bringing chairs - One camping stool, maybes.
4. How many chairs - 1
6. Any special eating requirements (vegetarian, vegan, allergies etc...) - might be helpful to know - Cheerfully indifferent.
7. Nights staying  - Arriving the night before Brittens (30th), staying at least untill monday, maybe longer if all is fun.

As I'm getting there a day early, I can probably gather up soem supplies and things, if there's anything anyone would like to have ready at the site?

1. Nope, but Davy told me I could sleep in his tent.  DON'T BAIL OUT ON ME NOW, DAVY.
3. No chairs; won't be able to carry one all the way down from Manchester, I'm afraid.
5. London very early; will prolly wonder around a bit, but so long as I don't get lost (which I actually probably will) I should imagine I'll get to the campsite in good time.
6. Well I really don't like celery.  Or cheap baked beans.
7. Arriving friday, leaving sunday (need to get back for school on the monday :( )

Well, in case you're wondering, everything has not gone to plan, and, without wanting to get in to too much detail into why (or if you insist - I sort of didn't realise that Live 8 was THIS weekend and thus I wouldn't be able to be as disquietingly last minute in terms of booking transport as I was for Gilbertfest) it seems that I can't actually go.  Although I'm sure all those of you who had the misfortune to run into me at Gilbertfest are relieved, I'm actually quite gutted, as I was looking forward to unleashing my presence upon you all again - as well as upon those of you (Davy et al) who weren't there.  I also feel quite guilty at having to pull out at the last minute, as I've taken up a place that could have been taken by someone else - so sorry about that :(

Anyhoo, y'all have a groovy time, now - toodles!

Davy

OK, I've acquired a 3-person tent. Not sure how it'll actually work out, but it's at least 1 more space for Fri-Mon nights, or storeage if needed.

Also, is there anything that needs bringing that's not on this list?

Quote from: m0ds on Mon 23/05/2005 18:56:46
- Sleeping bag
- Hygiene accessories, i.e. toothbrush + paste, flannel, towel, soap, shower gel etc
- Eating implements, plate, knife + fork, tea towel
- At least *A* change of clothes :P
- A CUP of some sort, preferably blue ;)
- Spending money
- In case of RAIN; Spare shoes, waterproof coat
- In case of HEAT; Sun-cream, shades (mine, dave, please :P)
- Phonecard, ET phone home - etc?
(I'm thinking mainly of pots & pans, although I'm not sure what I'd actually be able to fit in my bag.)

I may also be able to lay my hands on a second folding chair/stool, but don't count on that.

EDIT: Also also, will we need cash up front for the campsite?

Yes campsite is cash only as far as I can remember, they may accept a cheque?

As for pots and pans that would be great, last time we had to cook everything in cans and on tin foil. As for BBQ's will we be getting them there. I take it our food contribution fund goes towards this?

Hence sausage and ciggies. I might be bringing some sausages with me. Ciggies count as food right? To me they count as food. Do they count as food for anyone Do they count as food at all? I'm getting all yufster here!

No ciggies don't count as food; money i'm putting into food money isn't going towards ciggies (well, it might for m0ds :P )

couple minutes walk for a small shop (Spar?) but some (CJ, m0ds) will have their cars

Wait - Foster's isn't covered by the food budget? What the hell are we paying for?

EDIT: And, on a related note: How much are we paying, and when? (I need to know how much cash I'll need first day.)

Live 8 was THIS weekend..  it seems that I can't actually go.

Aw..
I'm definitely going to miss you, as I'm sure everyone else is.

If I ever meet Bob Geldof,  I'll shun him.  Viciously.

I think m0ds said everyone chip in £10 for food, although this may change:

The price per person is £5 per night to camp

we'll organise food money there, but the smart thing to do would be for everyone to chip in then m0ds or cj can drive down get food, etc...

So Ashen, you'll need cash for each night to be paid up front first, and I believe there is a £5 or £10 deposit for this key thing they give you, plus at least £10 for the food.

So if your staying at the campsite friday - friday you'll need £35, plus say an extra £20 for deposit and food. Next you'll need money for trains, planes and automobiles :D

EDIT - Don't fret, once paying this large amount you'll only need to spend money on yourself such as trips out, souvenirs etc. And another quick note, don't forget towels, they have showers on site ;)

Also remember taxi drivers are lying cheating bastards around airports. So ask how much it will cost before getting in there *looks at jetxl*, and a london black cab cannot turn down taking you, it's illegal I think. If they say no insist they take you.

AHOY PEOPLE!

Greetings from a Gloucester Street cyber cafe!Ã,  I travelled for 21 hours, endued countless lines, a horrible airplane seat and an 8 foot tall bronze statue of George H.W. Bush.Ã,  I am battered, bruised and jetlagged, but alive!Ã,  Alas, my hotel room isn't ready so I got time to kill.Ã,  Thought I'd add a bit to this thread before heading out to the british boonies tomorrow.

Looking forward to seeing you all tomorrow.Ã,  And looking forward to hanging out with Iqu, Creed and Layabout tonight.

Yay! Glad to hear you made it here okay Dave, have you managed to sleep at all in that time? LOL - you must be shattered. We will see you tomorrow!

Just to confirm, Miez - I will be at Luton airport to pick you up between 9 and 9.30am (depending on traffic :p) - and we should get to Laleham for 10.30-11am (depending on traffic), so anyone who needs a lift from Staines to Laleham can ring my mobile after 11ish. O79OO 331134. CJ said he'll help out too but I'm not sure how you can contact him!

As will I, if that's OK. I should be reaching Staines Station 2:08 (assuming the coach & train run to time).

DS:
Where are you travelling from? If it's London Victoria, do you want to meet up?

Ashen - I'll be getting in to London Kings Cross at about 12:30, and my connecting train is at Vauxhall and not London Victoria. I'll be in Staines at either 1:38 or 2:08 depending on what the underground is like, although I guess it'd be sensible for me to hang around until you get in so m0ds can give us both a cheeky lift ;)

Edit: There's a possibility we'll cross paths though, and I shouldn't be hard to spot - the long haired tail guy carrying loads of camping stuff!

I see you guys tomorrow at 5-6 o'clockisch.

I will also look like a long haired guy carrying camping stuff. Yet not as long as mr. S. Or as long as last year for that matter. But still long and rebelious compared to the 50's.

jetcl, are you bringing those jiggly breasts ^^^

Joking... So almost Brittens time. I should arrive between 1 and 2 as well. I checked the weather forecast and it appears we might be setting our tents up in the rain. (I'll need a hand from some people as my tent is big).

Lets hope the weather clears up for the weekend.

I'm off to go pack :P

Let's hope thats more accurate than my sources. Although BBC said it would rain in the afternoon in London. But it rained in the morning and not since... slightly wrong.

Just a quick question I'm hoping Matt can answer for me...

Will I be able to get access to Internet from anywhere in Staines (internet Cafe, McDonalds etc...). My exam results come out on Monday and I want to see what i got.

Yeah, I don't know what you've been looking at but every source I've looked at says that Friday and onwards is going to be sunny and nice. I hope so, there's not a lot that's worse than setting up a tent in the rain...

Well I'm glad I didn't say I would meet Dave for a drink tonight, seeing as I've only just got in from work  :o

Better put on a DVD and get packing I guess.

Magintz: I can't think of a Internet Cafe in Staines at the moment (I think the library has Internet Access if thats of any help.)  I think there's an Internet cafe in Ashford which is the next stop on the Train, or 10 minutes on most buses.  We'll probably pop into staines over the weekend, and try and scout something out.

Let me apologise now if:

- The AGS Annual doesn't work!
- I sleep the whole weekend...

See you guys tomorrow.

Hey Magintz,

I think I'm a member although I haven't been in about 6 years.  But then I'm back at work on Monday so perhaps we'll have to look out an internet cafe.

Haven't you left yet?
